Liberty2k7
First of all, this is my first attempt at ever writing anything that wasn't school related, so be gentle. It's probably poorly paragraphed aswell, not one of my strong points. Anyways, I hope you enjoy, and see what I intended orginally. Also, I wrote this carelessly forgetting to check it before posting it, and I realised part of the story didn't actually make sense lol. That's fixed now, so anyone who read the story before it was edited, um, sorry Tuesday 13th Novemeber 2007. 21:37 Rain began to crash down on the city, making everything seem a lot more rushed as all forms of life hurriedly moved to get to some form of shelter. I took no notice, and lit a cigarette as I exited the Bijou, a small-time theatre on 5th Avenue. I had just finished watching a French subtitled movie named La Haine, about the Parisienne ghetto. I had once believed it was such a distant world, Paris, but I had related to everything the movie had to say and was surprised how similar their way of life was. My phone began ringing. "Hello, im ringing on behalf of your "friend" Detective O'Donohue. Go to Park Avenue immediately we have a situation. He'll speak more about it when you're there." I called a cab by whistling it over. It was a common yellow taxi as expected. I got in and greeted the driver. "Where to my friend?" He asked, with an accent. "Park Avenue, please" I replied. I came to the conclusion that the driver of the cab was Eastern European, and pondered on that thought for a moment. Interpol came on the radio, distracting me, with Paul Banks' vocals only eccentuating the drab, wet and oh-so picturesque NYC Autumn night. It felt a bit too Cliché, like a scene out of a Film Noir, but I never have second thoughts because of my gut instinct. I was beyond caring. Death was barely an option anymore, and if it happened, I had nothing to lose anyway. I arrived at my location and got out, paying the taxi a five and leaving. I rang O'Donohue back. "Hello" "Ah, Mr Madsen, and how are you this fine eve?" "Don't play dumb, O'Donohue, I know what your looking for" "You can't talk to me like that, i'm the law. Infact, i'm above the law, you wouldn't want to f*ck with me, so do as I say." "Yeah, whatever" "Well, it seems our friend Matthew has pulled a dirty joe on us. He's stolen all of the money from our recent encounter with the snitch. That was your money. Not just that, but he has "something" that belongs to me. I can't tell you what that is, but he WILL have it on him, and you WILL know what it is when you see it. Capiche?" "Comprende" "You'll find him in Club Joy, soaking up the crowd and receiving some R n' R" I removed the gold and silver Marlboro Lights packet from my front shirt pocket and lit another cigarette, the smoke tightening my lungs ever-so slightly with a small sting. I knew what I had to do. I entered the club, after a quick search and ID check with the bouncers, concealing a small flick-knife carefully in my sock. When I entered a sweaty British DJ(He was also MC'ing, and with a heavy London accent you can easily tell) was playing some drugged up Sci-Trance. I just guessed a lot of the people here we're on ecstacy. I went to the bar, and got a Jack and coke, although I didn't feel comfortable, it wasn't exactly my scene here. I decided to take this one slowly, because I could easily f*ck it up if I didn't. I spotted Matthew, so I carefully concealed the flick-knife, opened, up my sleeve in my hand. He was attired in a bright blue shirt and blue jeans. He was dancing with some blonde, but I took no notice. After eye contact was made, a conversation ensued, although it was obviously hard to make out each others words. "Whats up, Madsen? This isn't really your kinda place, what you doing here?" "Oh, O'Donohue sent me" "What?" "Listen Matt, you f*cked him over. You stole MY money. Give me one reason why I shouldn't do as i've been told." "I don't deserve to die!!" "You haven't given me a valid answer" I took a deep breath. It was time. One fell swoop and I had already done it, his blood staining my hand and sleeve, luckily it was a black shirt. I searched his clothes quickly. I found his wallet, with his pincode and a credit card, so that was the money problem sorted. I kept searching for O'Donohues secret misdemeanor. I kept searching him, and all I could find was his cell, so I guessed that was it. I carefully walked through the crowd trying not to raise attention, wiping any "visual evidence" off my clothes and hand. Too late, I could hear screaming over the music, that wasn't good. Somebody had spotted me, and a bouncer came towards me. He began pushing people out of the way, and as I attempted to get him off he smacked me in the face. I retaliated by sending a punch his way, with blood flowing from his inevitably broken nose, his face left mangled. I made my way towards the exit, but by this time the cops had already arrived. I decided to go out a back exit instead, as they were still outside but yet to enter the club, possibly in belief the felon(myself, obviously) had already left. I made my way out the black door with fire escape marked on it. I could feel the cold air, in contrast to heatfilled, smokey and noisy club. I was in a graffiti covered alleyway with no way but right, other led to a dead end. I portruded to the end, but a police man spotted me and because suspicious by the looks of things. I ran the other way, although it would lead to nothing. I then realised my one and only option was to move upwards, using the fire escapes to my advantage. He obviously was ruthless, as he called in reinforcements on his radio, and waited. I laughed at his pathetic attempt and started to ascend to the top. I looked below, and saw about 5 NYPD officers coming after me, so I guessed i'd better hurry up. As I made it to the top, I could see the heat from the air conditioners combining with the cold air, it made a very memorable scene. I decided I couldnt go anywhere but down the other side, and I didn't want to have to murder 5 cops, I just had to steal a ride and flee the scene. I ran to the opposite end of the 7 storey apartment building. I quietly moved down, as to not attract attention to myself. When I reached the last floor, I kept my eyes peeled for police. They must all have gone to the Club Joy, so I was in the clear if I really hurried. I could see a few cars sprawled around the road parked, and it seemed like a quiet and dark street, and by now it must've been about 11 o'clock. I ran over to a black Ford Mondeo, the perfect choice. The window had to be smashed, but that took two seconds. I got into the car after unlocking, and began hotwiring. Hey Presto! The car started up. I then saw lights flashing and heard a megaspeaker. "This is the NYPD, you are under arrest for suspicion of Murder, Resisting Arrest and Grand Theft Auto." I sped off before they could think about what to do. Ofcourse they persued, but they didn't know who I was. If I could outrun them, I was free. I just had to get to a safe area, and I knew just the place. If I could get all the way to Bed Stuy then I could get to Danny Logan's place. I rang Danny on the phone as not to arrive unexpected. "Hello, Danny? It's Andrew here" "Ah hello, whats up?" "Sorry to throw this on you, but can I lay low at yours for a couple of hours? I'm deep into some sh*t right at the minute" "You know it man. I'll be expecting you soon!" I was edging closer to the Brooklyn bridge, and the cops were quite behind. I decided, considering i'd already violated basically every rule in the book, I might aswell risk getting a speeding ticket. I picked up the pace across the bridge, and made it into Brooklyn. All of a sudden, I saw lights infront of me, and realised it was the cops. I made a right and tried to dodge them. An almighty smash made me realise they meant business. One of the cops who was in the passenger seat had shot a hole in my back window. I sped up and skimmed around a corner. I had no choice but to speed and lose them quickly, then slow down and act like nothing had happened. That's exactly what I did, and everything calmed down. There were no cops around. They didn't recognise my face, and I knew this, I made sure not to be spotted. I had a few blocks left to go, so I got out of the car after dumping it in an alleyway. It would be spotted before I would. I arrived at Danny's just in time to catch my story on ABC News(obviously, they couldn't link the murder to anyone). That was me for one more day, I lit a well deserved cigarette and inhaled the deadly beautiful toxins into my system. "Atleast I survived another day", I thought to myself. "Oh yeah, I must ring O'Donohue" *Ring Ring, Ring Ring* The ringing echoed in my ears, the night more bitter than than the last one. I remember thinking the exact same thing last time. "Hello, O'Donohue, it's Madsen. Dispite a lot of inconveniences, I have done as you wished" "Yeah, and given the NYPD some well needed exercise. You get the cellphone?" "Yeah I did, why was it so important to you?" "Lets just say he caught me in a compromising position and my wife wouldn't appreciate it none too much if she happened to see it, which he planned to unveil to her tomorrow. He was blackmailing me the whole time." "That's pretty low, even for a two bit crook like him" "Yeah, I know, Aint it? Anyway, I'll be in touch" And at that, I decided it was time I gave myself a rest. Edited August 1, 2007 by Liberty2k7
