Rob.
Kotaku Rockstar developing exclusive franchise for PS3.No exclusive GTAIV content? No sweat off the PS3's balls. Sony have announced that Rockstar will be developing an exclusive, all-new franchise for the PS3. And no, it's not LA Noire, it's something else. Michael Shorrock, Director of 3rd party operations at SCEA; As part of our long standing relationship with Rockstar, and the incredible success for both companies with the cultural icon that is Grand Theft Auto, we've agreed to the PlayStation exclusive rights of the next great franchise from the Rockstar studios. That's about all that can be disclosed at the moment, according to Shorrock, so your speculation can run free and unchecked until we hear anything more concrete. Source: Link -------------------------------------------------------------- Looks like PS3 owners have something good to look forward to, especially to make up for the "exclusive content" for GTAIV that 360 owners will get. AlianAnt
While Rockstar has done an awesome job with GTA, nothing that they created as their own franchise has turned out to be anything spectacular. State of Emergency, Midnight Club, and Red Dead Revolver, while not terrible games, were not the kinda system selling games that GTA is. I'm looking forward to what they're planning, but I'm not holding my breath. Hold on.... AlianAnt Puts on flame proof full body suit Edited July 28, 2007 by AlianAnt Metal up your ass! Stuch
This is great news for PS3 owners. Yeah, they have a past of not particularly spectacular games, but this could break the trend! I hope...
beanmachine43
I've always enjoyed Rockstar's different ventures aside from GTA, especially Manhunt, Bully, and State of Emergency. I can only imagine what they're doing right now with the PS3, but I suppose it makes up a bit with the loss of GTA IV exclusivity, and more than enough for that episodic content. I read that as "Some other company took over, Sony Online Entertainment, and f'd it all up." The first thought that came to my mind was, "kinda like Matrix Online." Grandthefter
i would love another smugglers run, i adored that game - driving around with nowhere imparticular to go, finding all the secret passages that lead to big jumps. But i'm guessing it'll be something brand new, wonder when we'll get the first bit of info?

The two games have hardly anything in relation to each other. Except buggies I suppose, but even then Motorstorm would be such a better game if you had an impossible time limit and were smuggling illegal cargo. Fu*king christ the cops were asses in that game, going twice as fast as you and everything...I miss that game lol. Forgot Midnight Club too. Dub Edition is one of my favorite racers of all time. To this day I still pop it in sometime and check out my classic '64 Impala and pure gold Escalade.

AlianAnt
I think everyone misread what I was saying. I'm not saying SoE, Manhunt, Bully, Midnight Club, ect. were bad games, in fact I enjoyed SoE and Midnight Club throughly (haven't played the others, shoot me). What I'm saying is that, looking at past history, these won't be the spectacular system selling games that GTA3 and above have been. But maby Sony knows something I don't. Metal up your ass! AndyGanteks
A tottaly new franchise means it isnt Bully nor RDR nor State of E nor Midnight Club.Something tottaly new and different. We dont know what it is.Maybe they turn to make a soccer game?We know nothing yet.And also i still dont belive ps3 wond get something exclusive for ps3!!! Oh and a note to mods lock this topic,i have a 360-ps3 war feeling!!!! I doutb Bully 2 would be exclusive, Midnight club 4 is already announced as multiplatform and we'll be getting info in the next few months and Stae of emergency was never Rockstars' IP they just published the 1st 1 and decided not to publsih the 2nd 1 which turned out to be horrible. And why would they announce an exclusive game for the PS3 if it's not exclusive? That makes no sense what you said. LA noire is already an exclusive and this will make it number 2 as a PS3 exclusive. I'm pretty sure the 360 will get exclusives along the way as well. Max Payne 3 wouldprobably end up as a 360 exclusive.
DexX
And why would they announce an exclusive game for the PS3 if it's not exclusive? Because lying is an excellent way to boost sales. Just think of how many games in the past, besides gta, were initially "exclusive" to one console then came out on so many more. This way you get money from the early adopters and money from everyone else, even if it is usually later. pissing off the people who bought into the "exclusive" bs is a minor detail at best. And R* especially, has proven they're about as faithful as a cheating wife. Anyway i have to agree with Andy, i don't think the new franchise will be a system seller in the way GTA was. Bully, Manhunt and other R* games, while very good, didn't push anywhere near the number of systems that gta has and will. If R* is aiming for that something of that level, it will have to be almost perfect in nearly every way.
stretch.
You could throw in the arguement that games like bully weren't big console sellers as their target audience was gta fans, who had already bought into the exclusivity with the gta's, so therefore already had a ps2. Just throwing it out there.
TheDude5000
Now that you mention it, when the hell has there been a time when a R* exclusive stayed exclusive? GTA 3? VC? SA? All on PC and XBox now. Table Tennis? Heading to Wii. Bully? Heading to 360 and Wii. LCS and VCS? On PS2 already. And how dumb would it be, financial wise, to make a game exclusive to a console that has less than half the user base of each console it's competiting with? Then again, when's the last time you could really trust anything that has come from a Sony representative's mouth? Have any of you read that recent interview Harrison did in GI? That's the biggest load of sh*t I've read since Rosie O' Donnel pulled a copy of Macbeth out of her ass and handed it to me.
BlackStar2k
Currently I am playing Bully (CCE) on my PS3. I love the game. Ok, so Rockstar might have some other series that do not sell that well. We do not know which studio is making it. In short, it could be crap, it could be one of the best series ever. We do not yet know. Time will tell.
