[WIP] Locked-in-a-room flash game

Hi, I've been working on this little project of mine for some time and I'd like to hear what you people think. I only got the backgrounds so far.

The bed and floor need some textures ASAP, but I can't figure out how to apply one in perspective. Also, I couldn't decide what angle to use for the shadows.

Your perspective looks really weird. Unless that's the look you're going for, check out the perspective videos here, they might be beneficial.

As for shadows, choose a light source (maybe off-screen in the middle of the ceiling) and then place the shadows based on that. You might find it helpful to do some 2D drawings of the room on paper to plan things out. and work out where the shadows will go.

I've already seen those, thank you anyway. I did use the methods described in one of those tutorials. Maybe it looks weird because of the walls and the lengths of the bed and the desk? Anyway, can you elaborate? Even if I screwed up the perspective I think it looks kinda nice so I'll probably use it.

And the light source is supposed to be the windows, but since it is not concentrated in one point I don't know how to do it.

Thanks for the reply.

Your perspective looks really weird.

While it is unorthodox... it looks perfectly fine to me. The FOV is expanded (or other way?) so everything has more depth than it would normally have. I've always liked that effect.

No, I see what Jevon is saying. For instance, the bottom-right

illustration:

My angles are far too acute, but you get the idea. And like Jevon

said "unless you are going for that?". And that they are totally

acceptable either way. I'd play your game, as is, and admire your

current work, trying to find my way out. One thing I noticed that

I haven't seen mentioned is that your colors are very high contrast.

I think they look good, don't get me wrong, but in using colors so

bold, just see what it looks like with those blacks softened.

Or you could soften the colors, and of course then you'd want

the bolder black. Overall though, locked in a room games are

awesome, and your art is sweet for one. I hope you add lots

of places to click and pieces of paper and details like that to

read, you can make it a more relaxing experience that way,

and trap people in an entirely new way to these games.

Locking their attention. Wow, you could do a series.

Well, I went far enough off your initial intent in that last paragraph,

good luck, make sure we can try the finished product maybe? smile.gif

Oh, wait, I think it's the shape of the room that's confusing you all, it's (supposed) to be like this:

When you say the perspective looks weird do you mean the whole series of images don't quite fit together? Or are you also referring to flaws in each image, as a stand-alone one? (I hope those questions made some sense)

What I did screw up were the angles for the bottom-right wall in the last two images.

The FOV is expanded (or other way?) so everything has more depth than it would normally have. I've always liked that effect.

What's funny is that I wasn't going for that effect at all biggrin.gif

Yeah, I chose those colors kind of on the fly so I didn't really think much about them. I've always sucked at choosing colors though.

My thoughts exactly! But at this rate I'll have the game finished by next year, hehe. I'm really glad you liked my work, too.

wow, I see it now, but it's quite hard to put it into perspective

just by looking at it. Must be a real life room. sly.gif sly!

Color picking is tough most of the time, Color Jack's Sphere is quite

handy and quite awesome. There are different variations, but the

linked one is my personal favorite.

Can you guess what does the computer I'm using right now looks like? Thanks for the link btw.
