rashbeep
if only it were that easy.. like i said it's been like this on every computer i've ever owned, no matter how many times i've reinstalled. surely that can't be the only fix
travisbatos
replace it with someone else's texture?
rashbeep
PM if you have it -- i know for a fact there was another way to fix it - and has anybody else had this problem before? i can't find anything regarding this on google.
lord fido
TURN THE DAMN TRAILS OFF! ...and download lciii, it looks better Edited July 24, 2007 by lord fido
rashbeep
trails are off and what game is GTA LC for?
Heihachi_73
There's an option in ImageShack; it's called thumbnail views. Not everyone wants to download 1000 large images. People also modify the way Claude [Fido] looks by resizing the character's skin from 256x256 to 512x512 (use anti-alias of some sort, not Paint!). GTA: LC is a conversion (mod) of GTA3, but using Vice City as the game engine.
unopescio
The good texture is only on the xbox version of the game.
Ash_735
Here is a quick fix, just Get the player.bmp, upscale it yourself and smooth it out, here's how it looks on mine... Original Edited As you can see, still nowhere near as good as the Xbox texture, but better than the original and is only a quick fix.
stef_92
Just resize the texture image to 512x512 with B-Spline or some good filter
DexX
None of the workarounds mentioned in this topic address the real problem, which to my knowledge, there is no fix for: The game does not filter the player texture. Regardless of any work you do to the image, when it handles the player texture, that texture will not receive any texture filtering, or smoothing. It seems to be a byproduct of the skin system in gta3, as this problem doesn't exist in any version of any of the other games.
Vinnie
This is normal. It's the same on my PC & I'm sure everyone elses.
Claude GTA3
It's normal, the first pic u posted was the Xbox version, and the second one was a render.so it MUST look nice, the reason of the blocky texture wass Rockstar's fault, they didn't texture him very good, but the texture itself look nice, just look at Claude in cutscenes. DexX
second one was a render No! This is an all-too common mistake; there are very few "renders" of the games, and none of these images are renders. they are taken off a dev version of the console, or pc as the case may be, using the same engine we play the game with. They look better because R* AAs the sh*t out of them, and then still still doctors the images afterward. the reason of the blocky texture wass Rockstar's fault, they didn't texture him very good The reason his texture is "blocky" is due to the bug i mentioned in my previous post. That's all it is, a bug. edit; Ha! i'm 5 years late, but i fixed the bug! You can try it yourself if you want. Do this: -patch your gta3 to 1.1 -unzip and dump this file into the same folder as your now-patched gta3.exe that's it. Only tested on the american exe, since that's all i have. Known issues: -Player skins look goofy in the Skin viewer (ingame, via the menu), however they look just fine when actually playing. not sure what's causing that tbh, but it's a minor issue. What it does: In technical terms, it grabs a pointer to the renderware texture created from the bitmaps in your skins directory, and sets the filtering mode for that texture to Linear. Textures created from bitmaps have Nearest filtering by default by default. And that's the whole problem. R* created the texture from the bitmap, but they didn't update the filtering. Claude GTA3
Lol,I see you're using the playax texture,if it isn't a render, how come his hair is not messy?! BTW,how do I get the Playstation effect on cars,on the PS2,the colors are more intense, and the car reflections look better. On the PC,the colors are bad and bleached, and the reflection texture is mucky, dirty and UGLY! The PS2 version looks more like the LC mod for VC,when it comes to cars...
DexX
if it isn't a render, how come his hair is not messy?! because it looks like they were experimenting with an alternate head model. There isn't any technical difference between the ps2 reflections and the pc reflections; the image in the txd is the same, and method of applying the reflection to the cars is the same. The higher resolution of the pc just seems to reveal how bad the default gta3 reflections really are. Also, i think many ps2 players leave trails on, where many of the pc players turn them off. trails have a huge impact on the overall look of the game. Claude GTA3
Oh...but I play my PS2 without trails...but the reflection seems to be ''under'' the car color, and on the PC,they seem to be on top of them, plus,I saw the real red (PS2) color ofthe Bobcat, just take a look at night undere an orange streetlight. How are the specular lighting/rt reflections doing (Can they be done for GTA3?)?
stef_92
You don't need to get the Dexx' fix! Just go to models\generic and delete player.bmp . When you run the game and start playing the texture will be filtered!
DexX
No it isn't. If that worked, we would have noticed it years ago. But for verification, i just tried it, and still have a pixelated player skin. @ claude gta3 - i don't see any super-obvious difference between the ps2/pc reflections. About my mod, please keep questions and comments about it in the appropriate topic.
stef_92
No it isn't. If that worked, we would have noticed it years ago. But for verification, i just tried it, and still have a pixelated player skin. SO, ON MY PC IT WORKS!
DexX
You have the same game as everyone else. So unless another member confirms, no it doesn't. If it really does work, post a screenshot of you're player skin selection menu. The skins will be smoothed, and we know it won't be with my mod, because the player skins don't look correct in the menu with it.

DexX
Ahhh, i see. Yes it works for me now. The problem is though, it only works on the default texture. If you switch to another skin, the new skin is still pixelated...

When you delete the player.bmp the game uses the texture from txd.img, so if the texture is from txd file it have to be filtered ! If you want another skin it's better to replace it in player.txd and delete models/generic/player.bmp . Smellord
DexX
That's not the point though, i have 4 skins in my skins folder. I usually switch them out randomly while playing the game. I'm not going to quit the game, edit the txd, and modify the img file every time i want to switch player skins. That's just silly.
