Let me reiterate.

When I run the game, the character moves very fast and dies when he runs into things... its like the game is running super fast. Im pretty sure its because of the dual core processors in my machine. Im looking for a fix for this? Most games have a config file you can manipulate that will allow you to tell the game to run on one core instead of two.

Right have you set it to 98 Compatibility mode, or allowed GTA III To only run on one core?

How do I tell it to run on one core?

Ive tryed Windows 98 compatibility mode, when I do this the game loades then ask's me for Disk 2, stops there.

How do I tell it to run on one core?

Fire up GTAIII, ALT+TAB out, open Task Manager via CTRL+ALT+DEL, in the Processes tab, right-click gta3.exe and set its affinity to just a single core (untick all but one box).

This is a very common problem and the solution would have been found via a search or quick browse of the troubleshooting forums.

Actually I searched using these terms, " dual core issues, fix" and to no result. I really did search manually through many forums pages.. many searches online.. and nothing.. If this is such a very common problem the answers are not very easy to find.

I must thank you for your reply here as it did help me solve my problem, but on the flip side, why cant you people that run around these forums be a little more curteous to those of us politely asking for some assistance... it seams its always such a big deal to help someone these days.

Thank you again Fuzy Ive learned something today that will serve me in the future.

Try turning on frame limiter. Or when you are in game change gta3.exe priority to realtime in processes. (I don't know that it will work, but anyway - you can try.)

My apologies, it's a very common problem in the more popular SA or VC forums. I suppose it really hasn't come up in these rather inactive III forums.

Run a few programs at the same time, then it will slow the game down and make sure you have frame limiter switched on and try a higher resolution.

If you come back... just turn the frame limiter OFF and set the Frame Sync ON. I have the same processor and I understand what you're saying about the game going incredibly fast (I was getting upwards of 400 frames per second at 1600x1200 according to FRAPS).
