Forgot to mention too, as a recommendation from someone who works in Piccadilly Records who I see often, I bought Shackleton's new album "Music For The Quiet Hour" which is packaged with "The Drawbar Organ EPs" as a double album, in a way. I heard it when I walked in, and the production really reminded me of early Aphex Twin or even Autechre. I asked him and he brandished the absolutely beautiful box.

 

 

 

At £12.50 it was a steal and I quite like it. I got the CD version, though the artwork is the same. I haven't had time to get lost in the soundscapes of The Quiet Hour disc, as it's made up of 5 rather long tracks and I haven't had much chance to really get immersed in them. I'm loving the second disc though, which is made up of shorter songs (about 5/6 minutes) which I assume/believe are from previously discarded sessions while recording with another artist. I actually met Shackleton before right here in the venue I'm in now, The Twisted Pepper. I got his photo. I must dig it out. I didn't know who I was meeting until my friend introduced me to him. I'll have a listen when I'm home.

 

Meanwhile, I forgot how good The Tuss is.

I do love The Tuss. I wasn't sure if it was RDJ, but I'm putting money on it that it is.

All of deadmau5 sh*t sounds the same... haha at least most of it.. definitely not legendary.

Sick of seeing these types of comments posted all over each of his videos on Youtube. I'm not saying it's complete bullsh*t, as I agree to an extent, but the thing is, a lot of the current high-profile Electronica artists all have a similiar sound that they use over and over. I got into Deadmau5 only last year, after seeing him posted on here a few times, but I got to say that he quickly rised up to be one of my favourite current artists.

 

Not got much else to contribute to this topic, as most of my electronica music is mainly the mainstream stuff from the 90's.

Real Electronica has been dead ever since the 90's ended. And it's a damn shame. Sure, there might be some acts left that still produce quality sh*t but of course, they get no exposure and have to take a backseat to Skrillex.

 

Some of my favorite electronic artists; Aphex Twin, Future Sound of London, Orbital, The Orb, Boards of Canada, Chicane, Autechre, The Chemical Brothers, The Prodigy, etc.

 

The days of music of that caliber being produced are gone and will most likely never return.

There are only a couple, at the most a few, electronica acts that I listen to from this decade, but as I stated, most of my acts come from the 90's and early 20's. As I was still young back then with lack of internet access, mine was mainly just commercial acts, all the big names such as The Chemical Brothers, Basement Jaxx, Fatboy Slim, Daft Punk, The Prodigy, Massive Attack, Chicane, Orbital etc. No complaints though from me.

Now, I see Aphex Twin get mentioned a lot, but whenever I give them a listen, it just doesn't seem to appeal to me at all. What would you guys recommend as some of their better tracks?

 

And also, looking at the acts I listed above, can anyone suggest me any more that are similiar?

Sucks, but I've gotta say, Knife Party are f*cking killing it at the moment.

Yeah, can't say I'm really disappointed because their latest stuff (album and other releases) weren't that good compared to the older stuff, so I wasn't really expecting them to get any better soon.

 

I checked out Knife Party and I have to say it's no Pendulum (obviously not the same genre, but I meant in terms of quality). Some people have complained that they aren't any different than any other commercial dubstep acts and I somewhat agree.

Hey buddy,

 

Aphex Twin is like an aquired taste. Well, some of his stuff is hard to listen to, even for seasoned fans. The 'harder' stuff for me is more an appreciation of the complexity and creativity on how one can even fathom, creating those sounds, the complexity of the beats, changing of rthyms. It's nerdy electronica, I suppose. Mainly a male fan base that has somewhat of an interest of sound/music production.

 

He's so forward thinking, he shuns conventional song 'structure.' It's really future music that doesn't date quickly. He's credited with creating sub-genres and new genres of electronic music.

 

Here's some more easy stuff to ween you in to him, if you like? He's not everyones taste of course but I know you are open-minded and you love all styles.

808 State are somewhat similar to Orbital:

The tracks you posted are basically not different from the stuff you hear on TV. Those are basically belonging to pop music, and that particular kind of pop music is really boring in my opinion. You hear the same boring sounds over and over again, it's unimaginative to say the least.

 

There's nothing wrong with old music though. While I am more of a techno guy, I'd be curious to know about any new house music released recently. Most of the electronic music I listen to is years\decades old, and the new stuff I know isn't house music.
