BigGamer
I'm not sure how many other people here watch the show, but I've been a fan more or less since it premiered. Over the last couple of months, though, I've started to notice that it's just not as funny as it used to be. Colbert's guests have been going down the drain too, and he keeps bringing on no-names every night. I'm not sure whether it's the ridiculously obscure cultural references (I've had to look up a lot of the people he mentions on Wikipedia) or the whole fake-conservative thing wearing off, but I'm really starting to think that the show's losing its appeal. Anybody else notice this?
Groovy
Nope. I still think it hilarious, as is the Daily Show, even if I don't like any of the correspondents.
BigGamer
Nope. I still think it hilarious, as is the Daily Show, even if I don't like any of the correspondents. I think the Daily Show's actually gotten better lately, now that I'm used to all the new guys. John Oliver kicks ass, anyways. Colbert, though... I think he needs to bring out the On Notice board more often and do more of those Congressional interviews. They were his best stuff.
Bigs
Yeah, I've kind of noticed that. I think it's just that it's wearing off, segments like The Word are growing very predictable as is the whole show really. He's a funny guy and I still watch the show almost every night, but I do agree that it's not as hilarious as it used to be. Although I liked the interview with that ant guy tonight for some reason. Daily Show is good too, although I mainly watch for the beginning monologue thing and the guest interview, the correspondents have gotten weak for the most part I think. Both shows have their ups and downs, but I love watching both.
Otter
John Oliver's great. It took him a while to get into his own, but he's doing well. Colbert will kick up again once the summer has passed by. Without popculture, he's only got about half of his repetiore to rely on.
matt11504
the colbert report is better than the daily show. i sure as we get closer to the presidental election in the states colbert will get better
just another thug
I think the Daily Show is much better than the Report. Steven is just getting so f*cking retarded that I can't handle it at times.

just another thug
Steven is just getting so f*cking retarded that I can't handle it at times. thats what makes it so funny What makes it funny is clever plays on politics and current events. Not him talking about his ice cream for the whole half hour.
geomy
Early, It was hard to watch - You could tell he was still wet behind the ears and nervous, but slowly he got more and more comfortable. Now he's a f*cking riot. You can see he has crafted his character (yes, character...I'd love to meet the real Steven Colbert) into a dense right-wing politico with one agenda - himself. The stabs at the president and government in general are fresh and never forced, and the "Dead to me" list is genius. I really really really hope a democrat gets elected next go round, just so we can watch the Colbert character shift from a staunch conservative to a left wing liberal...should make for some great TV. Actually, f*ck that, Ron Paul 2008! Gareth?

It's completely natural for a new series to have to find its way, especially character based stuff. At first I was really disappointed, but after a bit he hit a windstream and has taken off. Nate Baker1
Early on I thought it was just the same thing as the Daily Show and would fail but people actually enjoy it. I like it but I woul much rather watch the daily show for John Stewarts expressions than Steven Colbert's. Just isnt as funny or interesting. Crokey
Gareth Croke looks at sig then looks at BigGamer There is space for more you know. I think the Colbert Report is fantastic, Stephen Colbert is a very clever man the way he can turn any conversation around to getting an apology from everyone is genious. I do agree in the past few months it has a dipped a little, not too much just a little, but this time of year is always slow on the political front, and The Colbert Report is mainly based on Politics. One of the reasons I'm surprised The Daily Show and The Colbert Report don't follow a Seasonal Structure like other Mainstream Programs and networks like NBC and Alphabet Channel. But from various sources I've heard that NBC are wanting to poach Jon Stewart in 2008 when both his and Jay Leno's contracts run out with both NBC and Comedy Central respectively so Jon can head up The Tonight Show. If this was to happen Stephen Colbert would switch back to the Daily Show as the main host, as domestically and even more importantly internationally The Daily Show has a much bigger audience and appeal. @geomy: You forgot to press 'Send' on the memo
geomy
Bah, I knew you'd find your way here eventually. I doubt Steven would drop the Colbert Report for the Daily show, though. I liked Tender Vittles as the host, they should get him back. It's not like he's busy.
BigGamer
Hey, hey, hey, I am not saying anything bad about Stephen. The man is my hero. The thing is, though, I think he's starting to lose the edge on his character. After the first month or so of the show, he was dynamite; never cracked up, incredible delivery, and he seemed so sincere that every punchline was ten times funnier. I'm not really seeing that anymore. As for Jon and the Tonight Show, I thought that spot was already reserved for Conan?
Bigs
As for Jon and the Tonight Show, I thought that spot was already reserved for Conan? Indeed, that's what I've heard. I couldn't see Jon doing a late night show like that, just not his thing. I can't wait for Conan to take over though, hopefully he doesn't sell out some of his best skits or jokes. Crokey
Well, pfft, you know how fast the Hollywood Rumour Mill turns. BG, I know what you mean but as I say it needs more Political gaffs and blunders for the extra magic to come bursting out and to be honest Dubya's kinda letting him down at the moment as he's not really being mishearing rightly and fumbleizing his words. Plus Dick Cheney's gun's been locked up for while and to be honest the Democrats aren't providing enough entertainment at the moment for Dr Stephen T Colbert DFA to be getting his teeth into.. A real citizen of the Colbert Nation would support our President. Lol, I know what you're saying GC. You're probably right, and I hope there's more material coming as we get closer to the elections (am I the only one who thinks it's ridiculous that we're talking about the elections a year and a half in advance?). Yeah really there are too many talk shows now anyways, letterman, leno, carson daily, conan, and lesser ones, like maury haha. I say keep Conan and thats all i care about. As for the switch, its okay i never watched leno anyways.
geomy
(am I the only one who thinks it's ridiculous that we're talking about the elections a year and a half in advance?). Not really. Bush sucks, but we're pretty much stuck with him because the impeachment process lost all credibility with the whole Lewinsky thing. BTW, the Report is on as I type this... ...he just assaulted John Mellencamp. Edited July 19, 2007 by geomy

Vive La France
I love the Colbert Report. I heard he was doing a special hour long show, as was the Daily Show for the 2008 election.
Dark.
A few nights ago I watched the Daily Show and the Colbert Report. Although they were both really good, I have to admit I found Stephen to be a bit funnier. Overall, both of them were great.
Moth
I find that the Colbert Reportl is a lot funnier then the daily show right now and i am not just saying that to stay off the on notice board that Gareth Croke has. But i have a question why the hell is i called the daily show if it only plays 4 days a week? Formerly known as The General

J3zz
Ye i really like the daily show, i used to watch colbert, but i dont found him as funny anymore, maybe i dont get the american humor Meh, but i think the only thing Jon can do is bush bashing, its funny, but i think the show wouldnt be as funny anymore when Ron Paul is president. American talkshows, i like em, i download them every night(their not on here in holland ), and leno is doing better now then conan. I thought the daily show used to be on 5 days a week? meh they only have the global edition here
