Canofceleri
I hadn't heard about this film until today while searching Fandango for what to go see. I saw Away From Her listed for a city over from me and Tomatoed it. It got really good reviews, like 96% on the Tomato reader and went with my wife and mother on a whim. It was also the directorial debut of some actress which made it the more interesting. Away From Her is about a couple dealing with Alzheimer's. Julie Christy plays Fiona, and some really good actor I've never seen before played her husband Grant. It was a truly great film and not just some tear jerker. As she gets worse they decide it'd be best if she retired in a home. The rest is an extremely moving and thought provoking film. It's also worth mentioning that the film had a very unique feel to it. I've never watched a movie that was so lucid that it almost had this feeling of otherness and strange realism to it. It might not be standard fare for some of you, but I would say that it would be hard for a person of any taste to not thoroughly enjoy this film. It is a pity that this pic is showing on a minimal number of cinemas, at least around here. It is very disappointing to feel how much the movie industry underestimates audiences and how much utter sh*t gets wide releases and how this gem goes nearly undiscovered. At the end of the day though, they were probably just not smart enough to market this film at all, let alone honestly.
Otter
It's written and directed by Sarah Polley, a rather famous Canadian. As a Canadian film, I'm glad you were even able to find it anywhere in the states! The last thing I saw with her in it was Beowulf & Grendel, a rather awesome movie in its own right.
