I have been playing drums for just under 5 years. I own a Mapex M Series with Sabian AAX and AA cymbals. This is me and my set (I know I am a skinny little sh*t and need to eat more  blush.gif )...

Some of my favorite drummers:

Neil Peart - Rush

Mike Bonham - Led Zepplin

John Dolmayan - System of a Down

Chad Smith - Red Hot Chili Peppers

Danny Carey - Tool

Thats a nasty kit man, could you post some sound clips?

Thanks a lot, I love this kit more then anything. smile.gif

I don't have any actual sound clips of just the drums themselves, but I do have tons of videos of me covering numerous songs, heres just a sample...

10,000 Fists - Disturbed

Very nice, I'll have to check out some more of your vids!

Oh and by the way, you look so much like Anthony Kiedis tounge.gif.

Thanks a lot. smile.gif

I seem to get that from a lot of people, mostly because of my hair, but I think my face is sorta similar also. tounge.gif

My current progress in dum playing is pretty slow. I've had drums about 4 months now, but I can only play a couple songs. Sweet Home Alabama, Whiskey in the Jar, More Than a Feeling... you know simple ones to start out.

Any tips on progressing and/or some simple but good rock/metal songs to play?

And here's another question: Do you guys just guess the tabs or do you look for tabs online? I tried bluffing my way through a couple songs but it takes ages to get it sounding at least a little bit right. confused.gif

I have about 50 drum covers on YT and I learned them all by ear and most them I played correctly. My tip to you is if you want to play by ear like me, listen to the song a lot and go on YT and watch other people play that same song on the drums. It always helps me out. icon14.gif

Funnily enough, I started looking at guys drumming on YouTube today! Came across some guy called Xevifoo. Was impressed with his skills, although he does tend to drum differently to the original songs.

What's your youtube name? I wouldn't mind checkin out some more vids.

A few of my friends play drums, and I love to mess around with their sets. I know how to play some simple sh*t, but I'm really no good. I enjoy messing around, so I'm gonna try and learn how to play.

I saw this guy covering Rush's songs from Fly by Night to Vapor Trails on drums and needless to say I was blown away.

My YT name is the same as my name here. Here's my page... Click.

I just made a new video for my girlfriend, and I really liked how it turned out.

I made a simple Sugar Ray song a little more complex.

I checked out a couple of your vids , Chop Suey and Sweating Bullets to be exact. You're pretty good alright. You put me to shame anyways! Do you take lessons or did you just pick it all up by yourself?

Ha MetalGrand, something about the start of that Disturbed clip made me think you looked like you didn't have a clue what you were doing, but then you started ripping it up. Pretty funny.

Yeah, thats that guy, Xevifoo. I watched a few of his videos. Pretty excellent I must say. Even on a 56k I waited for his videos to load! It seems that all he does is Foo Fighters and QOTSA songs. confused.gif

I don't understand how you can tell if a drummer is good or not. It all kinda sounds the same. Maybe when I learn to play i'll understand. The first and only drummer I have payed attention too is Travis Barker. Some say he is overated but I can't tell.

I bought some bongos a little while ago. They are pretty fun to play with, though I can only do fairly simple stuff. My problem is that no matter how hard I try, I can not make my hands do two different actions at once. I HAVE to lift one hand off of one drum before I use the other one, and I can't use them simultaneously. Are there any specific practices to learn this skill? Has anyone else had this problem?

I was thinking of getting a cheap electronic kit next month cus I'll be living in an apartment during the weekdays and must keep noise level at a minimum, damn city. Anyone recommend decent kits?

You can't really go wrong with roland, yamaha also makes some nice kits. Though I'm not sure you're going to be able to get anything worth a sh*t on the cheap. Unless you don't mind really fake and sh*tty sounding drums.

Well browsing through Thomann.de, I found a couple of kits in my price range, but I expect them to be of poor quality and sound.

MILLENIUM MPS-300

MILLENIUM MPS-100 E-DRUM STARTER SET

What I didn't realise was how frikin expensive modules are. €300 just for a small box that makes noises? Pah.

Wuddup folks?

Here are a few fan-f*cking-tastic drummers you guys should check out if ya haven't, I adore some of these guys, I just started on trap set (but I've been playing handrums for a few years and I've been playing on homemade junk percussion sets for a while)

Anyway, up first, Greg Saunier of Deerhoof:

Steven Drozd of the Flaming Lips is a fan-f*cking tastic musician in general, but he really kicks the sh*t out of a drum kit. He plays "rock" so he has to follow those types of signatures, but he really does some fantastic and creative sh*t within those confines. Here is a song he recorded in the late 90's for a compilation album composed of all drummers allowed to record their own songs. It's called Headphones Theme (from seemingly infinity). It's not the best show of what he can do, but he's doing some fantastic drumming in there, and it's pretty beautiful track too:

Headphones Theme (From Seemingly Infinity)

Ya'll should check out the Flaming Lips in general if ya haven't, one of the greatest rock bands I've ever experienced.

And last but not least, here is a man most of you have heard of, but probably haven't heard his drumming before. He is outragous on the drum-kit, what a hell of a musician:

May I present, Stevie Wonder..... yes... I said Stevie Wonder:

So does anyone else play any other percussion besides just trap-set?

OH!

I saw this band last night Called the Yoleus (pronounced the Yoleys) They had an amazing rythym section, the bassist was like a clasically trained les claypool. Their drummer was amazing! I saw him during the other sets, just seemed like a very quiet, shy, average dude in plaid button down and glasses. Then he got up behind a trap set and rocked my motherf*ckin face off with incredibly hard, fast, incredibly precise drumming.

http://www.myspace.com/theyoleus

Ya gotta see em live to appreciate his work, but damn, if you're in the Twin Cities in Minnesota, check them the f*ck out, well worth it.

o0o0o0o, a drummer thread. Nice.

I play. Have for about 18 months. Some great band times really.

My two favourite drummers are:

Brian Viglione - Dresden Dolls - He's a gun. One of the best drummers going around IMO. Such unorthodox beats, he's quick as all heck, perfect with timing and he's a entertainer. He's great in recordings, but live he uses a double kick, and uses it in songs which don't have one, adding another dimension to this guy's style.

Clint Hyndman - Something for Kate - This guy is dead set insane. The band he plays in isn't known for it's heavy music, but he is insane behind a drum kit. I wonder how many snare skins he's gone through. They're tough, but he's tougher. Even better, I got one of his drum sticks. The bass player threw it to me. inlove.gif
