Remember This.
I'm trying to make a Pokemon sprite comic in PS but I'm having trouble scaling things up. Basically I want most of my stuff at 200% size, so as to make the panels less empty. When I transform the background image I am using I change it from 100% width and height to 200% and it looks fine until I actually apply the transition, when suddenly it blurs. Is there anyway I can stop this? Here's some screens to show you what I mean; 1) Original image at 100% about to transform: http://img14.imgspot.com/?u=/u/07/195/19/Picture2.png 2) Image transformed to 200% but transform not yet applied (image is still crystal clear): http://img14.imgspot.com/?u=/u/07/195/19/Picture4.png 3) Transform applied (Image blurry) http://img14.imgspot.com/?u=/u/07/195/19/Picture5.png So yeah, basically I want the finished image to look like the one from the second picture, not the third. I'm using PS CS2 by the way. Thanks to anyone that helps.
geomy
When upscaling 'lossy' images (bmp, jpg, gif) the blurring is going to happen. To ensure no lost info, you'll have to use vector art (eps, dwg). How about scaling it like you had before and taking a screenshot before the transformation is applied. Then paste the screenshot and crop that layer to size. You're working in CS2...do you have Illustrator? Your problems would be over...
AndyinEngland.
Sounds like you're in need of some Nearest Neighbour!
Remember This.
Thanks guys! I still couldn't get it to work using the nearest neighbor method, So I'm just having to zoom in 200%, capture the screen and edit it. It's actually a lot quicker than I thought, so minimum hassle there! Thanks again.
tagamaynila
Nearest neighbor does not appear because you're using free transform. It only applies for resizing the entire document Using Image > Image size (Ctrl+Alt+I), so what you need to do is reduce the canvas to exactly the size of your panel. For example, if you have a 100x100px panel reduce the canvas to 100X100px. The quickest way to do this is to Ctrl+click your panel on the layers palette, assuming it's all in one layer, this will instantly select your whole panel. With the selection active, go to Image > crop. This will instantly reduce your canvas to the same size as your panel. Take note that eveything outside the selection will be cropped and discarded. Now that your document is the same sa your panel you can now go to Image > Image size and scale the image to 200% and you can now select nearest neighbor as an option. Edit: I forgot that you're using a Mac. Just substitue Ctrl with Cmd, and Alt with Option. Edited July 17, 2007 by tagamaynila
