GoldenAra
Hi guys! I was just wondering if the GTA engines are capable to handle the replacement of all the textures in the game whereas the new textures would have a higher resolution. The thing is, I already started to replace textures in Vice City/San Andreas while back but then got discouraged, as I wasn't sure about this engine thing and didn't really want to replace all the textures for no outcome at all. My overall goal would be to bring GTA III, GTA VC and GTA SA on the same level of graphics in order to drasticly increase the players' joy while playing! Thanks in advance for answering my question! ptkamikaz
The game can suport new textures but the problem is the computer may not handle these textures.
GoldenAra
Alright, thanks. So it should be at least possible to take the three 3D GTAs on a level that is slightly higher than the current GTA SA's one... Many thanks! If anyone else feels like adding something to ptkamikaz's statement don't hesitate to do so
DexX
Well the txd system in SA is a little different than vc and gta3. In SA you can "parent" one txd to another, so a minimum of txds can be used overall. Cutscene models use this extensively. In vc and gta3 no such optimizations exist. While you can still import images up to the maximum size your videocard will support (typically 4096*4096), you may get streaming issues as your pc is constantly loading huge textures in and out of memory all the time. This could lead to visual artifacts while playing, such as lod issues, and pop ups, as the game struggles to keep up. SA also has the advantage of mipmapping, a feature that is not enabled on vc and gta3. So yes, you could make the textures bigger and higher quality, but i don't recommend going over 1024 for any texture, on any gta game.
Fortesque13
How far (on SA) have you come with this mod anyway?
