Gman8
I don't know if this is the right forum, but anyway, I've had my PS2 since 2002. Never given me any problems. So the other day, a friend of mine walks in the room as I was playing NBA2k and accidentally knocks down the system. The door is jammed and the game couldn't be taken out. I had to open up the system to take the game out. I've had some minor experience working on TV's and VCR's, but not game systems. The door seems to be jammed and could only open maybe 1/5 of the way when you press the eject button. A look inside shows that the door gets jammed right in the middle wher ethe game is placed. It moves up when you eject the game, thus, causing the door to not open fully. Can this be fixed? Does it cost as much as a brand new PS2 to fix? Or is my PS2 history? Mafia Righthand_Man
I had a problem with the door jamming when I got my system brand new in the mail when the PS2 came out. I just pulled the tray all the way out and it seemed to work after that. However, it wasn't related to being dropped or any of that, so I don't know if it will work for you. I'm also not responsible for any possible further damage this may cause.
Vinnie
You could actually take it apart & inspect the disc tray. Just to see if it's sitting correctly, it should be on sort of Runners. If it's not inline with that you you can easily remove it & fit it back in again, but be careful doing so.
Grandthefter
check for small orange 'roaches Failing that, maybe one of the cogs has broken that opens the tray. I think alot of smaller game/electronic shops would probably do repairs on a PS2 - if its just the tray thats not opening i dont thin it'd cost that much either. So i think your best bet would be to find an independant shop and ask them about it. The big shops would probably want too much or refuse to repair etc
Hayden Stasven
I got so fahking confused for a moment there. I thought you meant your friend knocked the PS2 down in front of/behind a door of your house. Anywayz, no idea.
XMike
My friend had the same problem a few weeks ago. All I did was take the disc tray completely out and repositioned it and put it back in, and it worked fine. Look for a guide on how to take out disc trays on google, there's a ton of them. spyro_ie
I'm surprised that your PS2 has lasted this long. I'm on my second which isn't working the best either. I say you should invest in a PS3/XBox360/Wii or if your short on cash, just get a slimline PS2. It wouldn't be worth the effort repairing it. A friend of mine tried to repair his PS2. It would take ages for it to recognise some games so he opened it up, fiddled with it a bit, never worked again.

Gman8
Thanks everyone. I opened the cover and the dic tray was in the correct position. It was just that it can't open or close because the tray gets jammed with the under portion of the game (where the game sits when you plat it). That part gets pushed up when you open the tray and actually blocks the tray's access. I would just stop and get a PS3, but I love GTASA so much

Gman8
You can play SanAn on PS3 now you know? You could? OK, I'm a dumbass then I remember reading before the PS3 came out that you couldn't? Are there any known compatability problems though? ToyMachine
Take out the tray completely and play without it. Just take off the cover and change the disks that way. Screwes aren't even necessary. The PS2 looks like a monster but it works.
sainraja
Invest in a PS3 now since the 60GB version has full backwards compatibility at the moment......but if you are really short on cash, get a slimline like everyone else suggested. Unless you can repair it yourself, I don't think it will be worth it....

GTA3Freak-2001
I had someone well something knock down my PS2 and it caused the disc to be doing the same thing. I having opened the PS2 up many times meant it was no hassle to have a look inside. Now I can't say what I did but fiddling with the tray's mechanism fixed it but sadly the laser or something is beyond repair so it couldn't read any discs. Don't be surpised if you can't play discs even if you do fix the tray.
