It's a bit unfair that some people are banned and never come back, yet he was banned then unbanned etc.

Well, most people never return to get unbanned. He always sticks around to do so.

Remember This.

Yes, there's bias, and "veteran" members are often given more leeway than new members. But the same can be said for any community or organization - the folks that have been around the longest can get away with more. (At work, things that an employee of five-plus years can get away with could easily get a probationary employee - who is being scrutinized endlessly - fired.) I realize that doesn't excuse the behaviour completely, though, and I'll do my best to keep the whole "bias" thing from becoming an issue.

Haha, that was exactly the same thing i wanted to say (and said partly). I wanted mention that the same things go on at work and with older and newer employees. I couldnt phrase it properly though.

I just recently left my job because of the move to my new apartment. tounge.gif I realized I could show up half an hour late for work, and while other employees would get sh*tted out, none of the management seemed to care when I did it. wow.gif I could also get away with slacking off, hanging out with employees and chitchatting... it was awesome. alien.gif

So, needless to say, the whole idea of a forum being akin to the social hierarchy at work... I've made some observations. music.gif

I see what you guys mean. Its kinda like one of those things that is wrong and shouldn't happen, but it does and will happen for a long time to come. Nice to see you're going to be about more though Tsuroki Andy. tounge.gif

I think he's talking about gen chat. I've noticed too. An 02 member posts a funny picture, and a 10 page topic of spam ensues, with half the moderators joined in. Now if I, an 07 member, was to do the same thing, I would be banned faster than you can say 'elitism'.

Agree and disagree!

It stayed to make fun of him. Not that it was funny.

Kinda portrayed most older members views of the GTA:IV forum.

As for those bitching about how vets get away with stuff: it's not a democracy. We all know that.

Ok, newbies: As someone who basically spent his entire first year here arguing against elitism, here's a word of advice: Drop it. In a little while, you'll be in the same position and I guarantee you won't be complaining.

As for Dem, it's about time.

As for Dem, it's about time.

Look at my join date. Do I look like a newbie? I am the one who brought it up in the first place. All I am saying, is that if this keeps up, GTAforums will end up being taken down. The end.

How do I know? I am in college for Business Law. One thing we cover initially is CyberLaw, which is a rather new section of law in the United States (and other countries of the world). What most people assume is that since this is an internet forum, they are exempt from any need for professionalism in what they are doing. However, that is untrue. While the terms and service covers many problems for members, it leaves a lot of holes to be exploited.

While GTAforums may be an internet forum, it is part of a business. Yes, a business. It is part of the GTANetwork and earns an income from various aspects, mainly the advertisements. But it earns one none-the-less, whether it ends up making an actual profit or not. As a business, particularly an internet based one. They have a lot of additional responsibilities that they must take into account on their hosted sites, including GTAforums.

If the sh*t that is occurring on here continues to worsen, then it is only time before someone finds a major problem with how things are being run and will find a legal reason for action from it.

Here is an example: Think of it this way, while GTAforums is not responsible for the content and posts put on its site from its members, as per the terms of service, it is in part, responsible for the content and the ways that their representatives post (ie: Mods and Administrators). This gives them some liability in certain circumstances when it comes to how moderators and administrators run and act on this forum. Things such as harassment and more from a moderator and administrator can lead to civil cases against the domain holders and people who are funding the servers. All it takes is one bad apple, and someone to take it beyond the aspect of the internet, to lead to a hard decision for the owners of the domain. And I can almost guarantee that if it came down to keeping GTAforums and going to court, or closing it down and settling out of court, they will choose the second.

What everyone seems to not get is that while this is the internet, it is not exempt from law. Nothing is. The legal system continues to change and adapt to the world around it. Including how it is used on and against the internet.

I just think people should start considering the need for professionalism from the representatives of this site. Specifically the moderators and administrators. Banning someone because they simply annoy you or harassing and defaming members because they don't agree with you (ahem.. this happens often from some specific mods) is a very good way to bring an eventual end to this online forum.

The law is changing, and it is changing in a way as to make itself harsher and tougher against the internet. So it is something that the REAL administrators of this site must take into account.

I am just saying that from a legal perspective, you have to be careful.

From an '02 members perspective: I'm sorta glad he's gone.

Every topic he posted in he would seem to selectively read posts just to nitpick and pick holes and then he would twist it to his own agenda.

I never had anything agains him for what he does in real life, and don't exactly think he got treated fairly in his topic in which he posted his criminal charges being dropped.

But I can understand why.

Yet, in the end: Karmic Retribution wins.

Well, thanks for that lecture on business law and cyber harassment. Unfortunately, I've taken those same classes and I've got somewhat of my own opinion when it comes to that.

You've got a great argument. Yes, internet has caused the legal system to have to adapt and we're probably going to get shut down when some wacko without a sense of humor decides that internet defamation is worth the time and money involved in taking our service providers or Tank to court.

Yet, I do not feel threatened by the vaguely absurd notion that someone is eventually going to take us to court. Worse comes worse, I'll put up my own time, money, and my sister (a Harvard educated, current Duke law professor with a serious interest in cyberlaw) to defend us. Just saying. Maybe you should stop taking everything so goddamn seriously?

Also, if you could provide some precedent on a major website being shut down due to cyber harassment, I'd love to see those. I'm pretty sure if SomethingAwful can continue to operate after MUCH MUCH more severe instances of 'harassment', we'll make it through okay.

Besides, this sh*t is nothing like it was back in mid 02.

I think you completely miss understood my post. Which is understandable because people who don't bother to fully read things in detail often do (you seem to continually miss the difference I stated between standard members and moderators). I don't mean to insult, but I honestly don't believe that you took the same classes I have at some other college. Most likely whatever class you took was nowhere in the same level of quality or depth that my classes have focused on. It is the difference between someone who decided to leave/graduate college and go run a 7/11 and work the club promotion circuit and someone who has decided to stay in school past standard broad educational standards and make a career out of working in the legal system. Just because your sister is involved in law, does not make you anywhere near qualified to really talk about it. Neither does graduating with a masters in general business administration or becoming a certified accountant. Additionally, that means your standard college education was more focused on accounting or finance than law. Honestly, earning your MBA does not amaze me, as it may others, as at the rate I am at with my current education, it will only take me an additional single year to earn my Masters in Business Administration. Far less time then how long I plan to be taking classes for my additional degrees.

BTW: I would love to see your sister's Duke professor profile. Becoming a law professor, at any kind of proficient school, at a young age is something to be considered rather interesting and hard to believe. But if it is true, I would applaud her hard work and dedication.

Additionally, did I ever once state that there has been an actual case of an entire forum being shut down from legal action, although I would not be surprised if there has been one or two somewhere. Rather, I stated that it was only a matter of time. Recently, for one example, a major law forum was brought to court over the defamation of several of its forum members. The difference between what I was stating and what occurred there, was the fact that the defamation was from fellow forum members, and not the representative moderators of the site (like you). I will try to look for that link and PM it to you, as the case is currently still on going and I read about it around two weeks ago. Or perhaps you should ask your sister. Since, according to you, she is so interested in Cyber Law. If she hadn't at least heard about this specific recent case, I would honestly question her interest and quality of knowledge with current Cyber Law developments.

I never meant my post to say that something bad would happen here anytime soon, I simply meant it to point out the fact that at the rate we are going on here and the rate at which the legal system is developing, it will happen. It is not a matter of if, it is a matter of when and how.

Btw, if you knew anything about law then you would be able to see the difference between a free use site such as here and a pay use site such as SA.

Btw: It doesn't matter what happened back here in 02. For a few reasons:

1. GTAforums was not a major site with as many members as it has now.

2. It wasn't even part of a real business at the time.

3. Many of the current statutes involved in CyberLaw were non-existent then.

Telling me to not take these forums seriously is so hypocritical of your own experience on this forum. Coming from a current moderator, who, when I first joined, was still adamantly fighting to maintain their led-by position in the graphics forum and eventually came around to becoming a full blown moderator, I find it funny that you would tell me to not take things seriously on here. Maybe, if anything, you should start reconsidering the position you are in on this forum. It is my nature to take certain things seriously, it is one reason I am going into the career I have chosen. The internet is not really one of them, as I am definitely not one of the most serious people on this forum or any other one I might frequent. But when it comes to someone (who in my mind is not qualified enough) contradicting my knowledge in a certain aspect of something I am focusing on for my own career - then yes. I will take it seriously and tell you of your mistakes.

I never said you dropped out. Notice the "leave/graduate". Yeah. That implies multiple possibilities. Not a single action. As for the current school I am attending, it is California State Polytechnic University of Pomona. It is a rather well known college for California with only a 17% acceptance rate and several very competitive major departments, including architecture and engineering (which competes in these areas with some of the highest colleges in the country). While it may not be one of the top 10 Graduate Business schools (neither is yours) -it is number 29, it does have a very good undergraduate business program. I am only attending Cal Poly Pomona for undergraduate work. For a graduate program in Business or Law, I am currently considering USC, UCLA, or most likely Loyola Marymount University, all of which I am currently qualified to attend and are all located within 20 miles of the school I am attending now. The reason I am most likely going to attend LMU is because of their great law school as it is my main focus for any graduate work. Like I said, at the current rate I am going, earning my MBA will simply take a year of my time and is not a major concern on my career focus.

btw: it wasn't top 10 in 2007 either. Not on the List

Google "Arti K. Rai".

Thank you very much. I will research her sometime.

I'll take my chances and keep calling people faggos. I only talk to my sister once every few months, seeing as how she's usually busy writing a book or you know, teaching.

Yet you claim that she will drop everything and you will use her to help you defend GTAforums if something were to actually occur. Yeah, I doubt that if you only talk to her every few months and consider her too busy to even answer a simple question on current news and events in cyberlaw, she will be far too busy to even help you with a case. Yet alone to build and compile a defense or represent the site for little money or free of charge.

There's been exactly one person whos threatened to sue these forums, and I'm pretty sure that was me when I was drunk as a motherf*cker and telling illspirit I was his father.

Haha. Very nice. I hope he got you to take a paternity test. I'm not that much of a mean drunk. I'm surprisingly kicked back when I'm wasted.

I mellowed out quite a bit in two years. You stick to law, I'll stick to business.

Congrats man. Here is a cookie for that. cookie.gif And while I plan to focus mainly on law, I still plan to stick to both law and business as a whole. Thus why my bachelors focus is in Business Law. Not to mention my second major in Business or the minors I am completing right now as well.

I can't be arsed to reply to your whole message(s) (btw, you really sound like Dem with posts like that - OMG please don't shut us down) but GTANet isn't a business now dumbass (OMG, SORRY!!!). Just because it consists of more than 2 sites (which it did back in the day anyway) and has adverts on them does not a business make. Sorry to burst your bubble. Oh and a polytechnic? Really?
