TheDude5000
Unrelated: I don't write for GTA4.net anymore, I'm going to help Jordan out at PlanetGTA.com Does this also officially mean you stop trying to be funny by posting pics of The Office? Thank f*cking god. Thank god indeed. Now it's Jordan's turn to stop. Anyway, interesting news, but really not reliable or coherent enough to convince me the DLC will be going to PS3. On one hand, GTA exclusives usually never stay exclusive, but on the other hand, $50 million kinda convinces me this might be one of the exceptions. Kinda funny at first most of the PS3 owners were like "OMG I DUN EVEN CAIR ABOOT DLC " but now they're all excited about it over a 1up article. Interesting. Really interesting. Either way I don't really care if it's going to PS3, but the hypocrisy here is funny.
Moth
Peter Moore said this: "If you want the full Grand Theft Auto IV experience, then only the Xbox 360 can offer you that That is what he wants you to think because he is working for MS and not sony so of course he wants you to believe that. shunsuke
"As the head of the [internal Sony] studios it's hard for me to comment on the third party relations, so I don't know the details of that -- we deliberately keep those separate -- but we have a great relationship with Rockstar and we're actually working closely with them on a number of initiatives, so I do know some things that are going on but I'm not able to share those with you now." -Phil Harrison That is what he wants you to think because he is working for Sony and not MS so of course he wants you to believe that. Anton79
Sony executives are not exactly known for their truth telling abilities see the recent PS3 'pricecut' anyway this little part from a recent with SCEE president David Reeves tells us a lot about Sony and R* current relationship. As you say you've got Metal Gear Solid and Gran Turismo, and then Microsoft's got the likes of Halo. Then there's this murkiness around titles like GTA IV, where extra content is coming out on 360, and Microsoft is saying 360 is the only place where you can get the full GTA IV experience. Why didn't you get that content? It's just a question of money. If Microsoft wants to pay USD 50 million just for that... Then I would say they're quite desperate. But as Jack Tretton said, we're really not in the business any more of buying exclusivity. We're more in the business of developing, from Phil Harrison's area, new IPs. We want to move on. It's too easy to look at and say, 'We must get the GTA franchise.' By the time you've got it the world's moved on, and they'll be talking about some other game. I've got children who are 11 to 15 years old, and those kids are looking forward and not necessarily looking back. They're the kids who are going to be buying it - the new franchises, but not necessarily the old ones that we signed up to E3 four or five years ago. They're not going to drive the market in the future; it's going to be the new ones. David Reeves Interview So in a roundabout way his saying GTA is old hat, this isn't the first time Sony has slyly badmouthed R*. Sony's Phil Harrison said that the game isn't "that important anymore" strangely his comment was during E32006 after MS announced day and date release of GTA IV and exclusive DLC. In fact Sony screwed up big time as R* had offered them the exclusive on the game. Grand Theft Auto IV -- Peter Moore shocked the world at E3 last May when he announced that GTAIV would appear day-and-date on Xbox 360 and PS3. Months later, Newsweek reported that Take Two had wanted to continue its long-standing practice of giving Sony a lengthy timed exclusivity on the game, but they didn't want it. Newsweek says that former Sony Computer Entertainment president Ken Kutaragi's "radio silence" on the issue left Sony's American execs without the authority to make deals, and nothing happened. Sony's Lost Exclusives Let me reiterate that R* offered Sony a FULL exclusive for GTAIV, but Ken Kutaragi couldn't be bothered so R* went to MS and opened negotiations. I imagine MS tried to convince R* to go fully exclusive to them but back then that would have been a risky strategy as no one at the time knew how crazy the console world was about to get, with the PS3 having disappointing sales and the Wii and the Xbox360 steaming ahead and getting huge userbases. So MS came up with the idea of DLC a win/win for both R* and MS. R* gets to do continuing storylines and dip their toes into the very profitable DLC world and MS gets a good selling point for their version of GTAIV. And the Xbox 360 DLC will sell like hotcakes no doubt leading to R* offering MS first refusal on any future GTA content. Way to go Sony.
Knight_Yellow
All of that is pure speculation though. I garauntee that the DLC will never give microsoft a proffit, there is no way in hell that theres even enough fans of gta with 360's to justify 50 million dollars. MS just tried to steal fans from the ps3, not make a profit from the dlc. It might work, but if the PS3 gets its own dlc (wich it seems is likely) then MS will have just effectively pissed 50 million down the toilet. Seddo
MS just tried to steal fans from the ps3, not make a profit from the dlc. They can't steal you, they can't make you buy their products instead of other companies products. It's up to the consumer what console they want to purchase. Microsoft will make huge profits by selling the content via Xbox Live, if everybody buys the content in will soon add up back to the 50 million dollars, so Microsoft won't be losing money really. But i don't get why Microsoft would have paid 50 million dollars to get the exclusive episodic content, just for Rockstar to make some more content for Sony. GTA3Freak-2001
MS just tried to steal fans from the ps3, not make a profit from the dlc. MS didn't steal fans they saw something that would make money and went with it, companies don't concern themselves with fans and who buys their stuff as long as someone buys it and lots of it. I am also sure Sony wouldn't let you have any extra content free it will have a cost attached.

uptownrockstar
360 is hamperin IV, trust me. it makes sence that ps3 gets the other islands, 360 probably couldnt run it right if it wanted to. they get afew more missions perhaps, and kick rocks all the way home. la noire should be crazy. i dont know how long they been working on it, but while i was lookin for some IVpics' i came up on so screans for la noire. i dont know but the visuals like better . the releasin of IV, and the bannin of manhunt have showed me how political everything is becoming ps3 version will look better, and play better in any event .. what can you do
rasomaso
I think if we'll get "something", it's not gonna be exactly DLC. What about mod tools to create our own missions and download missions from others? I'd say this can happen so it won't be "DLC from R*", but we'll get "something"...
