emeryrulz
I was looking through the files for GTA3, and I noticed that in the weapons data file there is some stuff about first person. So I was wondering if there was a way to make FPS work? I would really like to play GTA3 in first person. So can anyone help?
MoeRonimoe
The FPS in the weapons.dat stands for the weapons like the M16 where you go into the ego perspective after clicking the right mouse button. But there is a mod which lets you play gta like a fps. It's made for VC but it works also with the LC mod (LC in VC) Check it out: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=254132&st=

It takes away a lot of normal functionality (like when in FPS mode, you cannot jump, sprint, or access vehicles), and the in-car FPS camera usually clips through tommy in a very ugly way. If you can get over that though, it's very interesting. It has a great "drama cam" as the dev calls it, which is basically a camera that makes it like any other FPS (gun on screen, shells fly, smoke can be seen from gun, as well as lights and such, etc), And when the car FPS isn't clipping through tommy, it looks really good and is fun to drive with. It's really up to you, though i'd try it anyway just to see if it doesn't piss you off as much as it did me.

Heh, first of all this functionality isn't normally present in the default GTA FPS mode either. And secondly, there is an update coming that is probably going to enable jumping. Sprinting is certainly enabled. Thirdly, if that is pissing you off, what is your commentary about the original firing mode of the M4 in Vice? Anyway, your criticism has been duly noted and will be considered. Alex
emeryrulz
Well, I don't have Vice City for PC, currently.
ceedj
$10 @ Target. Really, there's no excuse NOT to have it, especially living in the US. Probably your best bet, as the chances of seeing this done (a FPS mod) for GTA III are somewhere between slim and none. I'm actually not against democracy though. I'm against things I think are f*cking stupid. I think this is f*cking stupid. - Sweets
emeryrulz
There is a very good reason for me not to have it. 16, no job, and when I ask for money I'm told to get a job. I have the PS2 version, but no PS2.

Alex Yeah, for what it's worth, your mod is very good, being able to do what it does and so well as such an early stage of development. My only problems have been stated already (no running, jumping, cars, etc.) but i guess that's more of a problem with VC than it is your mod. An update is implied by it's beta status, and i'll be watching the thread closely for it. The firing mode of the M4 in VC is just as it should be, relative to the way vice city is meant to be played. From an FPS game standpoint though, it's severely lacking. Also, better keyboard+mouse support would be much appreciated. I can't use my gamepad with vice city (X360 controller, right stick can only use axes that VC doesn't care about, you've mentioned this in your readme), so KB+Mouse is my only option, like a lot of others on here. AK-73
Upon request I have been updating keyboard and mouse support some time ago. Wrt the right stick: did you try out both .asis? If you tell me how your windows interprets your right stick x and y axises, I can code support for that pretty easily. Go into the callibration/test menu of your joypad's driver... it should state which axises are being used. Running should be enabled... jumping is under consideration (but I don't like jumping is used in a number of ego shooters... Rainbox Six has no jumping either, which I consider a good thing)... driving in cars in fps isn't something I would want, so I am not going to code it. But the next version or the one after that will be open source so it will be possible to add spins onto it to those who care. Alex

Alex I can use a lot of different axes for the right stick (uber-configurable XBCD drivers), but the ones I'd like to use would be the standard Rx and Ry (moving the stick all the way up is RX+, down is RX-, left is RY-, and right is RY+). Don't ask me why I've configured it so wonky like, I just did. I am lazy at writing config files for the XBCD setup.
