Baby Faced Assasin (Barrera) vs The Lad From Bolton (Khan) tonight at around 11pm GMT. Unfortunately I won't be able to see the fight due to work, however I doubt I will be missing much. Something I have noticed however is that Khan is the favourite with the bookmakers? Is there something I am missing, as I seriously can't see past a Barrera victory...

Although If I had to pick a winner I'd vouch for Barrera, I wouldn't be too shocked if Khan ended up winning by decision, or even winning by late round stoppage. Barrera is definitely getting on in age, particularly after all the wars he's been in. His fights with Erik Morales and Manny Pacquaio took a lot out of him. From what I've heard from other peoples accounts, he looked shot in his last fight and Khan, although weak chinned, still has outstanding hand speed and fair power behind his punches. Combine these factors and I'd say that's how some people are leaning towards a Khan victory.

But personally, I feel that Barrera with all his experience will find a way to land a clean shot on Khan's chin and get him out of there, effectively pretty much ending his career.

Shame for Barrera, that was a disastrous cut and I believed him after the fight when he said Khan's punches weren't affecting him. Without the cut, I feel he would have had a good chance of winning.

But the even bigger upset, did you see Macarinelli get knocked the f*ck out? That was crazy.

Really?

All the AP articles I read made it sound like Kahn went to work on him. I should know better than to trust the AP though.

Anyway, you guys think Kahn is ready to step up his competition yet? An aging Barrera is one thing, but any one of the top five at Lightweight would be a level above, in my opinion. There's certainly no shortage of formidable opponents out there for him at 135. He could take a look at guys like Juan Diaz, Joel Casamayor...even Juan Manuel Marquez. All of them would garner him a nice payday, but another KO loss by the kid could be catastrophic to his psyche. You see that a lot when young fighters get smacked around early in their careers...some recover, others have trouble gaining that confidence back after a thorough beating. I just wish I could catch this kid's fights on anything but youtube...I don't even think my cable company offered yesterday's PPV.

He looked much better technically in this fight than his previous, in that he would stay on the outside of Barrera, then dart in, fire some shots, get his hands back up to his chin quickly and dart back out. He definitely had the speed advantage over Barrera, which was expected, and obviously was leading during the early rounds. But I personally believe that if the cut had not happened and the fight had continued into the later rounds, as Khan began to tire Barrera might have been able to land some shots and take advantage. Early on in the fight Barrera landed a left hook (not even that cleanly) and Khan wobbled a bit.

As for Khan's future, I'd say out of the three you listed Joel Casamayor might be the best option. His hand speed would give him the advantage in that fight, and he could outwork him as long as he avoided his left hand.

Juan Diaz would be risky for him, as he's a pressure fighter/warrior and could force him to trade and take advantage of Khan's chin. As for Juan Manuel Marquez, I think that's the worst possibility for Khan. A technically gifted, hard hitting counter puncher would tear him apart.

I know this fight is probably a month old but how good was that Juan Manual Marquez- Juan Diaz fight? Marquez is such a technician in the ring, I LOVE watching him fight; it's just poetry in motion. Absolutely brilliant, Diaz was great as well. Bring on Marquez-Pacman III Shifty41s_beerhatsmilie2.gif

Mother of God, it's Burning-Ice!! Dude, it's been way too f*cking long! How you been?

Yeah, I heard about the Haye-Klitschko fight this afternoon as well. And I'm sorry to say that I've only ever seen youtube clips of Haye. So I'm definitely pumped to see him against Klitschko. Perhaps he'll give us a decent heavyweight fight for the first time in a long time, eh? Haye's power should make it interesting, because as we saw against Corey Sanders, Lamon Brewster and even the now pitiful Sam Peter, Vlad's got a glass jaw. Hopefully it'll be a good one.

As for the Marquez-Diaz fight, I was a little uneasy early on. It looked like Diaz stung him pretty good in the first, but I guess that's par for Marquez, who isn't the quickest out of the gate. One thing's for sure though, once he gets in a rhythm, he's one of the best in the business. And on top of his almost unparalleled skill, he's one of the toughest in the game.

I think Pacquiao should get past Hatton in a month, and that should set up a showdown with Marquez again. I just hope Pacman does the right thing and gives Marquez the shot he deserves. It's funny, the two decisions Marquez dropped to Pacquiao could have easily gone the other way (especially their first fight). Had they, we'd be talking about Marquez as the best pound-for-pounder in the world.

Anyway, great to see you back again, bro. Stick around. smile.gif

The interesting thing is that, I have seen both the Pacman-Marquez fights and I always feel that Pacman won the first fight and Marquez won the 2nd fight. The first fight was extremely close but that first round screwed Marquez, but I really think Marquez won the 2nd fight pretty clearly.

I've been really out of the boxing loop for the last couple of months, I didn't even know Pacman was fighting Hatton!!!!! I have learned to simply not go against Pacman, he always proves me wrong. I thought De La Hoya would use his size and beat up on him...and we all know how that turned out. Pacman's speed and precision is going to bust up Hatton's soft, irate skin.

I've been doing pretty good by the way, thanks for asking mate; good to see there are still some boxing fans left in this world smile.gif

You guys been hearing the rumours about Mayweather making a return? Apparently now it's not a case of if but when, he's started training in the gym again. I'm going to assume he'll want the winner of Hatton-Pacquaio, to retain his pound for pound status.

Although in my opinion, he'll have to fight Marquez to truly earn p4p#1. wink.gif

I'm surprised Mayweather didn't come out of his "retirement" sooner. I personally don't want him to do any sort of rematch with DLH or Hatton; those fights have already been done. Mayweather-Pacquaio would be a blockbuster for sure, but I'm with you on the Marquez fight man. The skill in the ring between those two guys completely outweighs the combined skill in the heavyweight division....then again I don't know if that's saying much tounge.gif

I wish there was a welterweight prime Barrera around that would introduce Mayweather's face to the ring post.

But yeah, Marquez V Mayweather might be the next best thing. Awesome technical abilities combined with a warriors heart, Marquez is the man.

Got any predictions for Hatton-Pacquaio? I'm tempted to go for Hatton because of the size advantage, but then I feel like I might be making the same mistake twice.

Where's the fight taking place? If it's in England, the refs usually let Hatton do whatever the hell he wants, and Hatton can just mug Pacman. If it's in the states and the ref doesn't let Hatton clinch and hit Pacman as much as he wants to, it could be a bad night for Hatton. I think Pacquaio is strong enough for Hatton and is definitely faster than him. Speed kills, I'll go Pacman in 9.

Blah, completely forgot about Lewis....which is weird considering he was one of my favorite fighters and I think a top 5 all-time heavyweight. Anyway, the British heavyweight scene has been crappy ever since Lewis left. Audley Harrison...Matt Skelton...Danny Williams...absolute joke. Good to see a Brit HW with some hype and power in David Haye.

yeah, can't wait for the Haye-klitschko fight, it will be in the veltins arena(home of shalke) that will be awesome. and we also got Tyson Fury in the hw's, anybody heard of him? he has only had 4 fights but he has beaten some fighters with good records already. He is only 20 years old or something I think and he seems to stay pretty active, he is 6'7 and he has an awesome name to. i think he might be the real deal.

Checked youtube and watched about 3 of his fights. He's a big guy, a bit flabby and could be in better shape. It's hard to tell how good he is because he is fighting really poor opposition right now, but he is only 20 and it's just the beginning of his career. He seems to have decent handspeed but at the same time, all of his opponents just stand there and take his punches. He throws a lot of arm punches at times and really only throws proper punches when his opponents go into a shell and don't fight back at all. Doesn't seem to have great balance at times. The guy definitely needs more fights but I think he could become a pretty good prospect. He has the size, that's for sure lol.gif

yeah but for a guy with only 5 fights he has fought some experienced fighters, he took on Marcel Zeller who had a 21-3 record in only his second fight and Matthew Ellis who had a 20-6 record in his last fight. thats not that bad. And from what I heard he has a pretty good chin, he has never been down ever counting both amatuer and pro fights.

A lot of Marcel Zeller's wins came against people making their pro debut or people who have never won a fight. Ellis fought poor competition too. Both of those guys records are padded. It's hard to gauge how good a fighter is when he faces opposition early in his career. Most likely he will continue feasting on poor competition until somewhere between his 15-20th fight. Would you know if he had any extensive amateur career?

yeah zeller and ellis arent good boxers but they where experienced with good records, I think he was an ABA champion as an amatuer not shure though, I know he lost to David Price in the ams.

Attorney General

Any of you guys see Arreola stop Jameel McCline last week? He looks more and more like a fighter who can at least present a decent challenge to most of the guys in the Heavyweight division...so long as he doesn't eat his way right out of the sport first. tounge.gif

Also, Paul Williams just keeps getting better and better. And it looks like last years' loss to Carlos Quintana was nothing more than an off night. His first round KO of Quintana in their rematch combined with his handling of Winky Wright and Verno Phillips in the subsequent few months proved just that, it was an aberration. This dude is no joke.

I just wish some of the guys at 147 would fight him. Imagine the possibilities. He could fight the Cotto-Clottey winner, Andre Berto, Pacquiao. Hell, what if Floyd comes back? He might pose the biggest threat to Floyd out of anyone in boxing. If not, he'd probably do just fine to fight at 160. I can't say I'd pick against him at this point if he were matched up against Pavlik or Abraham. Would you?

And one last thing, have any of you guys seen or heard of Edwin Valero? It seems like he's gone vastly unnoticed for the last couple of years. It's partly due to fighting on independent cards that weren't televised here in the US, but also because he hasn't been cleared to fight here in the States because he couldn't pass a physical. It had something to do with some motorcycle accident he had a few years back. Anyway, he's 25-0 with 25 KOs and he's only fought 50 rounds....yeah, he gets you outta there in a hurry. The guy's an absolute animal. He just moved up 135 a few weeks ago. I'm not sure he's ready just yet, but I'd love to see a showdown between him and Marquez sometime in the future. Hell, Pacquiao could drop a few pounds and join the party too.

Ah yes, Edwin Valero. I've been out of the boxing loop for a while but he was definitely an up and comer a couple of years ago. Apparently he had some sort of brain defect when tested in the States and wasn't allowed to fight in America. I saw some youtube fights of his a couple of years ago, don't know how much he has progressed, but he is a great combination of speed and power and had pretty decent technique. I highly doubt Pacman is going to fight him, high risk low reward type of fight.

I am SUPER excited for the Pacman-Cotto fight, I have no idea who to pick considering they both are on my list for favorite fighters. I absolutely hate predicting against Pacman and I try to avoid it, but I'm all Cotto this fight...just as long as Pacman doesn't wrap anything into his handwraps...*cough* Margarito *cough*

I saw Arreola knock Travis Walker the hell out today on an HBO on demand re-run. Arreola isn't fast, but he is one strong son of a gun. I don't know if he is the answer, but from what I saw; he doesn't seem to clinch a lot and he likes to mix it up. Two extremely refreshing qualities to see in the HW division.

R.I.P Gatti. R.I.P Vernon Forrest complete legends

Yes, indeed. Both deaths where tragic and unnecessary.

I didn't see any VF fights when he was alive, but I remember seeing some of Gatti's wars when I was younger. Being amateur boxer myself (when I was younger), it really was a great thrill seeing Gatti getting it on especially his fights with "Irish" Mickey Ward. icon14.gif

Did anyone see Shaq fight Oscar De La Hoya? Strangest fight I've ever seen. It really shows you how you can have a two foot height/reach advantage and about a hundred pounds more, but it will do jack sh*t unless you have the mind of a boxer.
