Co-op?

Has anyone gotten around to doing something like that yet? The best I have seen so far is GTA: San Andreas, but I was wondering if someone was able to bring it up the next level.

 

By next level, I mean side-by-side missions, riding the same vehicle together, and etc all at once.

 

If it were possible, it would probably be something only two-dimensional GTA versions would be able to support. Has anyone been able to get that up to speed, or is it something that just won't happen without rockstar giving out the sourcecode?

 

Also, posting in the GTA2 forums because it would be the preferred method to play co-op in, obviously. tounge2.gif

In the 3D GTAs' multiplayer mods, two people can get in the same car. I'm sure it would be pretty easy to do, but this is the wrong place. Try the modding forum.

It can be done. I've messed with passenger scripts before. If the player is already driving, they can't change to passenger without getting out of the car and vice versa. It's a bit weird since the player walks on his own and you can't just make a key that enters as passenger, best thing I could do was make it so you had to select a certain dummy weapon to activate the passenger code.

 

The source .mis files for the 3rd level (Industrial) were released, so co-op code can be added to that. I experimented with that long ago but like most scripts, I never finished it. Fairly easy to add a 2nd player but all the missions are designed for 1 player, so they would all need to be modified for proper co-op. Without modifying all the missions, you could have a 2nd player that can't activate or complete the missions and just follows around the first player.

 

It can only be done in a multiplayer network game (no split-screen or two players on one PC).

That's good to hear, will be very interesting to see someone get around to doing that!
