GTA IV for PC

However, this thread is certainly better than most thanks to my fellow old-timers (I’m also 37).

That is a very ageist comment.

Maybe it was, but it's very telling.

Most of the experience I have of forums on the Internet (not just this one) is that when someone's posts typically have punctuation, few spelling mistakes, and actually has a reasonably logical flow to it, it will have been posted by one of the "older members" of the forum.

I swear people are getting more and more cryptic by the day on these boards. Great of you to post HERDIST but I think I am with the majority here in saying "we have no idea what you are talking about". I mean sure we understand the last bit about GTA4 coming to the PC. But you don't like playing on the PC. Nothing wrong with that, that is your prerogative and I hope you enjoy the game which ever way you decide to play it. It is just this bit that has me foxed :-

PC= Mouse+ Keyboard

Keyboard+ Mouse= 20$

I honestly have no idea what your point is. I mean from that equation you are basically saying "PC equals mouse and keyboard, mouse and keyboard equals $20" ??????? seriously am I missing something here ?

Maybe he's saying you can just buy the mouse and keyboard and hook it up to a console? As far as I know you can only do it with the FragFX set up for PS3.

That cracks me up. I guess you could buy a keyboard/mouse device for a console, but I can't imagine it being very good.

CharmingCharlie: He just said that consoles are 2000% as expensive as a PC.

Well it is all relative really, my mouse and keyboard setup cost me $200 biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif Yet another reason why I am not prepared to settle for anything less than GTA 4 on the PC tounge.gif

Yeah I did wonder about that, it is a common misconception that just because the PS3 allows you to connect a mouse and keyboard DOES NOT MEAN you can use them in the game. So far the only PS3 game that supports the mouse and keyboard combo is Unreal Tournement 3. I see no evidence that GTA 4 will have mouse and keyboard support in the PS3 version. Infact it is highly unlikely you will ever see mouse and keyboard support widely adopted with consoles due to the fact joypad users cannot help but bitch, whine and moan.

I mean joypad users really should make up their mind, one minute they are crowing like cockrels about how wonderful their joypads are, the next minute they are screaming like little girls at how unfair it is they keep getting beaten by mouse and keyboard users. Infact there is a game coming out called "The Agency" from Sony (believe it or not) for both the PS3 and PC, there will be no cross platform support (ie PC users battling against PS3 users) guess why ? ..... cos they don't wanna upset the joypad brigade biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

Personally I'll be playing GTA 4 on my pc using a gamepad...all the GTA's released since Vice City have played better with a gamepad. I bought the GTA series on Steam and tried San Andreas out using the keyboard and trackball (thumb operated...works great for most pc games)....but found I didn't like the control scheme...so I got out my gamepad once more...and I love that control scheme.

After reading some of the previews for the game I'm seriously thinking about trying to rent a 360 and the game after release. I'm not about to buy a console though. I bought a PS2 for both Vice City and San Andreas...and sold them after finishing each game...simply because I needed the money and it was gathering dust, unlike my pc which can be used for plenty of other stuff. To me the PC is by far the superior platform. It may cost more in the long run but you get more for it.

the mouse+keyboard or controller is another stupid discuttion that points at the weaknesses of the next gen consoles.

as a pc user with mouse+keyboard, i also enjoy playing soccer, so i have a controller, and problem solved

pc users can just chose whatever suits best, heck we can even combine them

Trackball?

That has never been good for gaming, use a real mouse and then come back with your opinion.

FPS games are quite useless on consoles, what I never understand is just how people CAN, use them so well. I got resistance for the PS3 for free, and online, jesus - little shreaking kids just own all, must be the combination of a ASBO keeping them indoors and glue fumes...who knows.

For the PC gamers here - what should one do, if they are a big GT, MGS fan ?....and dont have the patience to wait for a PC GTA.

The percentage of people who actually have gaming pc's, or at least one with a 6800 equiv card is a relatively small amount. Its all well and good saying, get a PC. Quite a large majority of people simply do not have a PC new enough to play recent games at a resolution and settings signficiantly above the 'next gen' consoles.

The fact that the consoles can download demos, playonline and display gfx of a decent resolution means that Devs will be sidelining PC gamers more and more. If your upset about this - its just the way it is. I hate paying £1.05 a litre for petrol, knowing full well that there is a multitude of factors in play keeping the price high (OPEC, green pressure, Tax), knowing that you cannot change things means you just have to accept - I dont moan about it because I cannot change it.

I believe this thread is just a lot of negative energy - Im not saying dont post, I think this is one of the better threads here. Though a 110 pages of a PC versus console debate without mentioning the game seems a little odd. IMO middleware ( or is it hardware ) like PhysX - could perhaps create a unbelievable GTA, as Im sure a ingame engine like Euphoria has its compromises.

In fact you should all be a lot more upbeat, GTA4 IS going to come to PC's, and I cannot imagine it will be as late as 2009. Play on a mates console ( snobbery aside ) and enjoy it for what it is, then sneer at them if you must and look forward to your own edition. Everyone can get a bit of GTA from April onwards as long as you are not too picky.

You seem to be pretty persistent with that kind of statement.

It has been said many times before, and I believe someone (CharmingCharlie) said it again on the previous page; that none of those factors have anything to do with why GTA is being released on console, prior to it being released on PC.

No-one is denying that consoles can download demos, play online, display half-decent resolutions etc, but that has nothing to do with GTA, and is even more irrelevant to this discussion as the PC platform has had those capabilities and more, for over 10 years now.

People do mention the game. They (the ones who have played GTA on PC in the past) usually say that the game would play much better on the PC platform. What else can be said, that isn't already being said in the other GTA IV threads?

I'll tell you what would definitely be odd: If PC gamers gathered on a forum regarding GTA, in a year after 2000, and discussed that game in a positive manner, even when it is not known whether or not they will get a chance to play it.

Negative posts (this is not a negative post) are only directed at certain f*ckhead companies, and users who ask for it through their blind ignorance to the facts. (I'm not saying you are one of these people, but you would've seen them come and go over the many pages)

Alright, I know what you're trying to say, and that it is a constructive statement, but the problem is that Rockstar's affair with Microsoft, and especially Sony, has grown much worse than it was in 2005. Despite the rumors, and the lack of comments from Rockstar themselves on specifying "no PC version", it is just so unknown exactly what is going on in the heads of Rockstar's executives, and whether that "brain virus" will actually bring GTA on PC to its demise.

Yep. Just like Deus Ex's sequel, consoles have shown up at the scene like vultures, and the game is now being developed for them as well, and thus, we will probably see a massive drop in game-play depth and quality.

I meant in terms of discussing the new features of GTA4, though I can understand that it must be frustrating talking about something that is not a certainty.

It is quite a different landscape this time round, with the 'big two' consoles being threatened by the Wii, fairness to PC users gos out the window - they have consoles to shift. Couple this with the lack of AAA titles out there and making it a console exclusive for the meanwhile is just common sense.

Holy crap dudes, i just came from reading the GTrailers forum. All the PS snobs are crying and whining over the fact that TF2 isn'tworking good on the PS3 and all that sh*t. Saying Gabe is fat (why would you say that?) and that Valve hates PS3 (true). But wasn't the PS3 version of TF2 made by EA? How come they are crying about Valve when EA is the one that f*cked sh*t up?

Man..... Fanboys these days.

That is the theory that Rockstar, Sony, and Microsoft use. However, if GTA IV never came out on PC, it would be the beginning of the end for the Grand Theft Auto series.

i don't think my computer will be powerfull enough to run gta4 so i'll probably buy it for the ps3.

What I seen so far does not look like a game that will require sick specs.

Give me your specs and I will tell you if you need to upgrade.

So far it looks like you can run this game, but you can't run it in high detail, you may have to disable some visual effects, and you may have to run it in lower resolution like you would on the XBOX 360 version.

If you want to upgrade, I might consider new graphic card, and maybe 1 GB of RAM.

This is just guess work for now, as I know nothing of the real requirement.

GTA IV is EXACTLY the kind of game that is made for the PC. With it's a deep, immersive storyline; need for more buttons than a gamepad/joypad can offer; mature themes; rich details which can only be brought out to the fullest extent on a PC; ability to display incredible views with a much greater draw distance; need for higher frame rates to give the smoothest action possible, especially during explosions or action sequences; and need for loading of data, which would be greatly reduced on a PC (far shorter load time at the beginning, since it can be installed to a hard drive); it screams for a PC. Games like Super Smash Bros. Brawl and many of those offered by Nintendo are ideally suited for consoles.

Settling for a console version would be huge compromise for a PC gamer, as they have much higher expectations. It's a more mature crowd who has a system with far greater capabilities than that of the consoles.

I hope there will be one and believe they are smart enough to do that business thing. I always force myself to hope for a PC version of the "stories" releases. Why can't they get one as well? Missing San Andreas Stories is just one of the saddest thing I would ever believe to happen.

I (and as far as I know many many others) never ever would! As I told, I made the experience playing GTA SA on PS2 and it was terrible and no fun at all. In my opinion GTA isn't a game meant to be played on a console and therefore, if it doesn't come to PC, then for me it's dead! And this means a lot, because I'm almost obsessed with GTA.

But I'm very confident it will come to PC at least for the same reason R* made it consoles-exclusive at this time: Money.
