GTA IV for PC

I think GTA 4 will probably come to PC around May or June of 2008.

But who knows, maybe because of 'Hot Coffee' Rockstar might be afraid to release a PC version.

Whatever the case, Rockstar will make the right decision. rahkstar2.gif

3) If GTA 4 will not be released for PC, we can use some of emulators... (I know this is very sad and bad way but only we would have to... sarcasm.gif )

Fully functional ps2 or xbox emulators still don't exist; and we can be pretty sure that if anyone does undertake to emulate the ps3 or the xbox360 it'll be quite some time ahead in the future. Like a decade or so.

@EntropicLqd & RonHiler: Did you see the definition of "Hardcore Gamer" on MegaGames? Let me quote you a paragraph:

One of their main characteristics is that they usually play a large number of games per year that could very well be over a 100 games. Therefore, hardcore gamers don’t always buy their games, they do copy and share. If not, there would be no real hardcore gaming community to speak of. However they contribute to a large share of game purchases. While playing all the latest games that are released, they substantially contribute to the hardware industry as they upgrade their computer and console systems very regularly to meet the high hardware requirements of the new games that are released. As the trendsetters in the gaming industry, these elite gamers are so focused on gaming that some end up being game developers themselves.

That answers all the questions. smile.gif Harcore Gamers download Warez. In fact, most of the people in the Wrez community are GTA fans and Hardcore Gamers like us. I know that because I'm part of it and I'm also a Hardcore Gamer. If there's any one here who's once a member of ProjectW and WarezBB please be my witness! These guys really think that Harcore Gamers buy all their games. How Stupid! About 50% of GTA players are actually playing the bootleg copy! In my country, 98% of GTA players play the bootleg copy. I'm the 2%. smile.gif My country has 4 million people by the way and my country is the Top Three most advanced places in the world in terms of Technology and Gaming, together with Sillicon Valley and Japan. Try to guess how many people actually play games? So if every Hardcore Gamer in my country buys every game that they play, imagine how much money Take 2 Interactive will profit from the sales? You really thik that's the case? Nah.

Okay first of I just want to say when did megagames.com become the authorative on categorizing, filing, indexing and stamping gamer types. You can go to dozens of other sites and they will give you a different definition of what a "hardcore gamer is". What made me laugh the most was this bit

Therefore, hardcore gamers don’t always buy their games, they do copy and share. If not, there would be no real hardcore gaming community to speak of.

That isn't being a "hardcore gamer" that is being a thief plain and simple. But as reaper x550 said we have already done the "stealing software" debate.

Look it is simple, if GTA 4 was going to do so badly as some people here are suggesting, then it would never have made it past GTA 3. The series started life on the damn PC for gods sake.

So at a risk of repeating myself, GTA 4 will come out on the PC in the summer of 2008, it will be directx 9 compatible with enhanced directx 10 features if you use Vista. It will go on to sell millions of copies on the PC. Then when Rockstar release GTA 5 for the consoles we will have this same damn debate allllllllll over again mad.gifmad.gif

Nope, if anything the whole Hot Coffee thing was an absoutle stroke of genious on Rockstars Part (well PaddyW as he boiled the kettle), how much press coverage did that give the game, well it made the BBC Six o'clock news which is something as they never usually bother with Computer Games.

All that free advertising, saves a few quid at the end of the day.

Next GTA im gonna be legal age to have a shotgun, so watch out fanboys.....

Now whats all this talk about hardcore gamers? seriously, There are many different types of gamers....not everyone in the world speaks english. Some may pirate games and others will legit buy them. Dont we think this whole agrument has been going on to long without any real purpose other then the link to piracy which HAS been coverd. Are we really starting to run out of things to talk about?

People like CharmingCharlie and DML are respectfull people who provide alot of information and insight to alot of things, so why are we still complaining like 12 year olds about what a hardcore gamer is and what they do.

Thats true, and i wouldn't put it pass rockstar to do something like that, if you see a car crash do you look? most people do and it's the attraction to what isnt "normal" that sells, Look at postal 2..banned in so many places yet so many people want it.

That answers all the questions. smile.gif Harcore Gamers download Warez.

Sorry, but it does nothing of the sort. That article is some guys opinion. I give it no more credence than I give yours, or you should give mine. He's entitiled to his opinion, but that's all it is. Just because he wrote it in an article, doesn't make it fact. I can write "The sky is red" and put it up on my site as an article, doesn't make it true.

He's just a writer (and to be honest, not even a particularly good one). To be a valid reference, he needs to quote sources and give hard statistical facts that can be verified. Until he does that, it's nothing more than his opinion. And in fact, I think his opinion is quite wrong.

Again I'l say it. I'm a hardcore gamer. I play dozens of games a year. And I buy every single one of them. If a demo is availalbe, I may download that to see if I like that game. I have never downloaded warez in my life, and will never. And that goes for pretty much everyone I konw as well.

Sorry, but not EVERY Hardcore Gamer in this World is as rich as you. Sorry, but maybe only Harcore Gamers that are GTA Fans don't download Warez. But I've seen millions of Hardcore Gamers that do so. Maybe they're not GTA fans. But I don't download GTA off the net either. I BUY THEM, even though I'm not rich. I make an effort to buy every single GTA game that's released. And I have no more cash for other games. If I don't download, how am I going to play other games? I BUY all my games that has the Rockstar label on it. The rule of the book: "If you see the Rockstar Logo, buy it. If you don't, BitTorrent it. See if it works. If not, rent it.". I'm not saying that GTA is not popular. It IS VERY POPULAR. IT"S EVERYWHERE. But I'm just saying that it's a real pity that half of the people who play GTA San Andreas play the bootleg copy. People in China, India, Thailand, Indonesia, Phillipines. If you don't see them on the net, how would you know? I have friends over there, that's why I know. You mean, you are not aware of these underprivelleged countries in the world? They LOVE Grand Theft Auto, but they are Poor. How are they going to buy it? More than half of the world's population comes from these countries, God-Damn-It!

To be honest, if you don't buy a game you don't deserve to play it. Whichever way you cut it, warez is stealing. Even if you use a warez copy before buying the game (as in, "I was only using it as a demo officer"), it's still theft. Right up until you buy the license to play the game.

The fact that you "can't afford it" is simply a poor excuse for your ilegal behaviour. A game is either worth buying and playing, or not. I would tell you that "I can't afford to get a HD TV". It's not actually true. I could afford to get one, but I'd have to stop spending money elsewhere. That HD TV is a luxury I don't really need. Games are exactly the same, they are "luxury items".

Get a better job, work harder at college. And if you are not old enough to be working, why the hell are you playing games from the GTA series? When I was growing up it used to take me 2 months to save up the cash for a new game. The games I did buy I played to death because they had real value.

Ignoring the fact that you pulled the "half of the people playing GTA are using a bootleg copy" statistic from thin air. The people in the countries you mentioned are poor. Very poor. Most of them can only just about afford to survive. Forget owning a gaming spec. PC. Only a small percentage of that massive population will actually be able to afford even the basic requirements to play games.

Yeah, I've got a brand new PC with an Nvidia GeForce 8600GT, which supports DirectX 10. And CharmingCharlie said:

Most "hardcore gamers" wouldn't know the first thing about a PC. Most "Hardcore PC gamers" wouldn't let any of those plastic toys anywhere near their house, ... , this game will be considered a must purchase by anyone that plays games on a PC even if it has already been out on a console for 8 months.

I'm talking about "Hardcore Gamers", not "PC Gamers". Yes, most "Hardcore PC Gamers" aren't Console Owners, but most "PC Gamers" are. And "Harcore PC Gamers" won't want to play a game like Grand Theft Auto IV that isn't graphics intensive. Yes, I agree San Andreas had outdated graphics and it's still one of the Top Ten games right now, even though it is already 2 years old. But that's for the PS2. In the PC Gaming world, Warez rules and Graphics is one of the most important criteria on whether they will buy the game, because most of them will just download it off the net. I'm talking about "Buying" the game, not "Getting" the game.

If you're still confused between "Hardcore Gamers" and "Hardcore PC Gamers", and "PC Gamers", read this article this link.

You really have a point here. I would class myself as a hardcore gamer, but I dont buy new games every time a new one is realeased but occasionally. I would seriously still class my self as a hardcore gamer and yes I do look for graphics.

i am a hardcore gamer... i think. i passed both of my favoUrite GTAs 100% and know what each file means and how to edit it. And even tho GTA can be downloaded it DESERVES to be bought just to show all our respect to the scottish guys who fight against bloody lawyers while making the greatest game.

I was going to download some games, but thne i though why risk? if i will like it i will buy it, so i got a free demo-version, and now GTA is the only game i play... Others are crap. So i dont think, somebody can not afford to buy 30 quid game every 3 years.

Deuce Deuce

I seriously hope so. I'm very interested in it, but I probably won't buy an Xbox360 unless I find a really cheap one. But to be honest I don't see why I should go ahead and buy one, since there could well be a PC release and all I'd have to do is buy the game rather than spend money I don't have on an Xbox360 including the game and probably a new TV. We can only hope...

I gave up, i'm just saving to get one and plugging it into my one of my PC screen's so i dont have to buy a new TV.

I was going to wait it out and see what would happen with the console version. However things got so bad on my PC that it just had to be upgraded, well it was a 4 year old P4, 2.4ghz with 6600gt card.

So after much erming and ahhing I bit the bullet and built myself a new Duo Core pc with a decent 8800gts card. I would be lying if I said I did it "specifically" to play GTA 4. I did have it in mind when I built the new PC, but there are other games coming out that I like to play, that is the reason why I could "afford" to fork out £500 to build a new PC, rather than just pay £400 to buy a console for one lil game called GTA 4.

Could someone qualified please respond to this:

The HP dv6500t notebook that I'm hoping to get within 2 months has a GeForce 8400M GS graphics card with up to 380MB shared memory. It's supposed to have been "optimized for DirectX 10"; and I take it to mean that it'll be able at the very least to 'run' stuff that runs on a 360.

So, if IV comes out on PC, is there the slightest chance that this graphics card will run it? (The rest of the specs. are fine on the notebook)

Link to comment

Well an XBox360, doesn't even run on a full on DirectX10 system, it's kinda half way between 9 and 10. And the card you mentioned is a DirectX10 capable card/chip, so it's already better than the grpahics card/chip used in the XBox360.

So you're good to go, that's if GTA:IV PC is slated for a Vista only release which will mean DirectX10, but that I doubt, it will be a minimum XP, but I'm going off on a tangent.

Yes it's good icon14.gif

Well if I understand correctly, this model has 128 MB dedicated memory, and when the need arises, it shares extra system RAM.

Honestly I don't expect much from this graphics chip; the DirectX10 capability gets me hopeful somewhat, but that's about it. Nevertheless, some benchmark sites say that it's capable at least of running new games, albeit at medium-low settings; and I'd have no problem with a hypothetical GTA IV for PC at the lowest conceivable display settings. In fact that's how I played San Andreas, and the graphics didn't bother me in the least----what did bother me however was the occasional lag.

Thats why I ran away from my Dell (had shared RAM and graphics) and built a PC, it is a whole lot easyer.

Atleast your not expecting to run games on max settings just because it's an 8 series (trust me, there are people who honestly think it will)

Important thing is if you think it will fit you best, go with it

Hmmm, Reaper. Not sure what you mean by this. Pretty much all cards work that way. I'm a programmer with a fair bit of knowledge on D3D programming (I've worked with DirectX since it was version 1.0, and WinG before that).

You see, the very fastest way for a video card to get a texture to display is to have that texture stored on the VRAM which is on the card itself (that way the texture data doesn't have to travel through the buss, which is a major bottleneck in terms of getting something displayed). The thing is, no video card has enough memory to hold every texture for even the very smallest game, heh. 128MB is pretty standard these days, with 256MB on some cards. Not many cards have much more than that, and those that do are wickedly expensive smile.gif

So what ends up happening is the card pushes as many textures as it can to the VRAM where it can get at them quickly. If the driver is properly implemented, the textures used the most frequently are given priority for this space. Whatever is left over that can't fit on the card is stored on the regular machine RAM, and it has to go across the buss to the card every time that texture is displayed.

RAM sharing is inevitable. The cards don't have enough memory on them to store all the textures needed to display a 3D scene, they HAVE to share the system RAM.

Unless I'm misunderstanding what you are talking about, which is possible biggrin.gif

Damn right, GTA started on the PC and it should stick to it! But I really doubt they will port it to PC. WTF???? Port GTA from PS3 to PC?!?!?!? WTF is that crap! GTA Started in PC and it should be ported to consoles! I hate when developers do crappy portings from consoles to PC! It should be all the way around! mad.gif

I don't think I'll be getting a PS3 till next year, or maybe 2009, so I hope they will bring it to PC TOO!!!! PC ROX!!!!!!

Why PS3 you say? MGS4 Guns Of The Patriots. That game made me change my mind when I wanted a Wii. Now I want a PS3, no matter if I waste money or anything else. MGS4 is worth it!!!!!

I kinda got nostalgic when I read the other day that all of the GTA releases where on October of some year, except for the London mission pack on the first GTA =( ain't that nice? Sniff...

Awww, charming charlie, the not so charming wants an arguement, you want my answer? The PC is absolutely sh*te at games, I'm not a kid, The 360 has so much better games and PC has only JUST got HALO2 but will not be getting HALO 3, are trying to figure out wether or not to get Gears of War which I doubt! By the way, little charming charlie and the chocolate factory, it is despite and I can speak english, too bad you're out of my league, BIATCH!

If you can speak english you should know it is "argument" not "arguement". Tell you what whilst you claim people with PC's care about whether they get Gears of War (we don't it's a crap 9 hour game) you can sit there wondering if you will ever see a killer game like Crysis. Actually I will save your brain cells, the answer is YOU WILL NEVER SEE a game like crysis on the Sh*tbox or the PS3.

Wow, I rest my case! Who gives a damn about those LAST GENERATION of games. Counterstrike, Crysis, so last gen. We got Bioshock coming up, Mass Effect, Halo 3, Alan Wake, Banjo 3, GTA IV, Resident Evil 5, We've also got C&C 3, we're getting MGS4, Devil May Cry 4 and loads of other games. SO, what has the PC got under it's corroding sleeve?

MMORPGs and Blizzard

love it or hate em, that's where the moneys at icon14.gif

and yep, GTA4 is definitely coming to the PC

what I was meaning is graphics cards that have little VRAM and use alot of RAM to help, that mixed with the other numerouse tasks for the RAM can equal in alot of lag, although I dont know his specific card... usually when I see anything with the words "shared with ram/memory" I just walk past it. The graphics card he was said had 128mb VRAM, which is acceptable, but it just seemed to click in my head that they made a feature of:

GeForce 8400M GS graphics card with up to 380MB shared memory

I personally don't know how a 128mb graphics card holds up, I have never had one (always 256mb min) but with 380mb of RAM my advice would be to see if you can upgrade it, 380mb isnt much, and with a RAM upgrade your PC will do everything faster, personally I have 2GB DDR2 Dual Channel, but from what I gather i'm guessing you wont need much.

It was just a concern and a bit more info anyway, Don't think i was having a go at you Raymond Luxury-Yacht icon14.gif
