GTA IV for PC

This is great news. I just hope it's true. Many have been saying that it wouldn't be released till 2009! I think I can hold out till October 2008. I was almost going to consider the Xbox 360. I still want to hear R* confirm this and confirm episodic content is coming to PC as well.

The hard part is NOT the wait, but "tuning out" ALL THINGS GTA. THIS IS THE MOST DIFFICULT THING BY FAR! Don't want these console fanboys to ruin my GTA IV gaming experience! tounge.gif I, for one, am not going to listen to any fanboys talking about storyline, gameplay, etc.

It's B.S. that PC gamers have to wait and R* knows it. Consoles can't compete when it comes to raw processing power and WILL never. On the bright side it gives you a chance to upgrade your PCs.

My Rig:

EVGA 680i MB (upgrading to 780i MB soon - this will take new 45nm Intel quad core processors! biggrin.gif)

8gb of Corsair PC2-6400 800Mhz RAM

2.4 Ghz Intel Core2duo E6600 (I will definitely be upgrading this before GTA IV comes out)

2xEVGA NVIDIA 8800GTX (SLI)

1.2KW Thermaltake PS

2xWD 74GB 10k RPM Raptor HDD (RAID 0)

Auzentech X-Fi Prelude Sound Card

Windows Vista 64-bit

Hey everyone, just want to start off that im not a noob on here as some of you guys call it, its just that i dont post much.

Anyway i recently sent a email to R* technical support about bringing the game to PC and i got a email back saying that they will send it to the Relevent Department??? So i was thinking if everyone emails to R* and maybe give them ideas about why the PC version is so good then we could probably get some good news about the PC version!

PS3 and Xbox 360 cost too much and are (pretty much) useless compared to a Computer. Getting a new tower for my computer (whatever its called) that would be able to handle this beast of a game would be brilliant, anyway i need a new computer coz my one is a few years old blush.gif

Thanks for viewing this! biggrin.gif

GTA IV to the PC? I'd say there's a 50-50 chance there and if it did come out on the PC, you would probably need Windows Vista to play it on, e.g. Shadowrun can only be played on vista unless theres a hack so you can play it on XP.

Oh God! You won`t need Vista to play it, Vista sales are low comparing to XP sales ... You`ll probably need XP + SP 2 ( or 3 ), I think it will run on Vista but on XP too ... The next thing to say is that "GTA 4 will need DX10 to play " Glad you didn`t said that ...

smile.gifsmile.gif Woa hang on man, the X360 and PS3 are both (the PS3 nativly) DirectX 9 consoles so havin DX 10 on PC as a requirment is almost certainly not necessary, wouldn't do any harm at all to include support for it's enhanced effects mind, might look better at high res than either of the consoles. and this whole Vista thing is balls. I have Vista and all I can say is, there's hardly anythin that s worth botherin about upgradin for.

Cheersd Sam The Bam

You've got it backward bud. The 360 is natively DX9 while the PS3 uses OpenGL which is technically capable of DX10 graphics with the right programming (although I doubt we'll see graphics that good from thrid parties).

It would be pretty badass if they ported the OpenGL version to the PC, optimized. You could get ultra l33t 4ss gr4fixxxX without the bullsh*t that Vista is.

As Microsoft are now a supporter of the decline of the PC gaming industry, I find it important to alert the public of their efforts in the campaign.

Over the past few years, Microsoft have introduced the "Games for Windows" scheme.

This scheme, which Microsoft falsely refers to as a "gaming platform", is a new effort by Microsoft to try to increase (don't know how) the PC gaming sales, and, at the same time, increase the popularity of the Windows OS through the hard work of game developers and publishers.

You've probably seen titles which are part of this scheme as you browse the PC games at your local gaming store. If you haven't seen them, here's an idea of what you're looking for... As you browse through the different PC game titles, each with their own different box art, shapes, sizes, and types, you'll see some titles which are in these ridiculous-looking thick versions of DVD-style cases, with a silver "Games for Windows" stripe across the top of the cover...that is what Microsoft wants the PC game shelves (if any) to be full of in the future.

This Games-for-Windows crap is Microsoft's vision of the future of PC gaming. Like most genius ideas from the f*ckstick brainless dicks over at Microsoft, this is a de-evolutionary one.

When you think about the benefits of PC gaming, what is it that comes to mind? I'll point out the obvious...

- Processing power (CPU, GPU, memory-throughput, etc)

- Controller options (keyboard, mouse, stick, wheel, pad, etc)

- Hard disk drive capacity; running the game without the original disc spinning at full speed all the time

- Wide range of input types means a wide range of possibilities (rarely being taken advantage of these days...thanks to Sony and Microsoft)

Well, knowing those benefits, here's a few of Microsoft's objectives for the Games for Windows "platform".

- Make all PC games look almost identical to the XBox 360 games, when on the shelf, therefore killing-off the ability for packaging to be unique, which existed before the G4W

- Aim to invest and promote a new idea we call "Tray and Play"; this allows games to be played during install, or without install, directly from the game disc. This will make the hard disk (good data I/O performance) redundant, and will allow console gaming to appear faster than PC gaming.

- Push for XBox 360 controller support in all games. This is important to us at Microsoft, as we don't like the freedom presented with PCs, and would really like to push for this magical controller (a ripoff of the original Playstation controller) to be the primary input device with all PCs.

- Make it a requirement (this is really important) that the game can be run on the Media Center edition of Windows XP. In doing this, home theater PCs will become like gaming consoles, only, as many home theater PCs don't have decent video cards etc, the games will usually run worse than on the console, and thus, will further discourage gaming on the PC.

At Microsoft, we don't believe in PC gaming. We, along with Sony, don't believe in consumer freedom. We have a dream. We dream that we will one-day make PC gaming so unpopular, that our gaming console will reign supreme. We dream that our console will one-day be able to out-perform a PC of the same monetary value. We dream that people will be able to place GTA IV (PC release) in their Windows Media Center home theater PCs, play without installing it, and use a USB XBox 360 controller as the input device...only to see it look and perform worse than on the XBox 360 console. Ladies and gentlemen...we have a dream!

-------------------------------------------------------------

I've talked about this in the past. Microsoft want to make the PC into a console. It's a frightening possibility, and one which, with the rapidly dropping level of consumer intelligence, just may one day be achieved.

Those at Microsoft and Sony, along with all the yappy-yap tappity-tap-tap f*ckstick fanboy kiddies, can sit back all they like, and pretend their consoles are the holy grail, pretend that piracy is the PC game killer, and pretend that PC gamers are "just nerds" etc...but...at the end of the day, the following is fact...

As you walk the aisles (or single shelf) of PC games at your local game store, and see nothing but over-rated console ports, and maybe a small cluster of original PC titles...Sony and Microsoft made it this way, through greed, lack of vision, and lack of corporate integrity.

Well said, DML.

I have mainly been a lurker here, keeping my eye on this thread. But I know what you mean. Making my way over the EB, it's like the PC games have been pushed out. I remember in EB, there used to be a whole wall dedicated to the PCs, and now they're just pushed into a little corner. It's like 85% of the walls are used to shelved console games, where the rest are PC games or game guides.

It's really sad everytime I look at that shop and sigh everytime. What happened to the PCs dominating? I look at so many threads where XBox360 and PS3 fanboys quarrel amongst each other about which console is better, when they could be having a better life with the PC. It's just unbelievable what people will believe from these companies; just because something is so hyped, it's suddenly great.

SIGH.

I know exactly what you mean. Going from the Australian flag I see under your username, I assume you're from/in Australia. I remember back about 6 - 7 years ago (before the rise of the XBox), the Melbourne City Myer Lonsdale St store, had a large portion of their electronics floor dedicated to PCs and PC games/software etc. Over the years, this was somewhat reduced, until a year-or-so ago, where PC games were shifted to the corner (literally), and became a single aisle.

Today (recently), when I visited the electronics floor trying to find a game, I couldn't find a single...I'll repeat that...A SINGLE PC game in the entire Myer store...on any floor. There was, however, games for XBox, Playstation, and Wii.

It has been confirmed that there will be no returning characters.

What about radio DJs? Lazlow, Maurice Chavez, etc.? No returning characters there either?

Some interesting news for the "XP vs Vista requirement" discussion (assuming there will be a PC version).

MS is sort of admitting that Vista wasn't their best idea ever by planning their next Windows OS to be released in 2009, one year earlier than expected. (Via APC Magazine)

This may have importance in the process of behind-the-scene negotiations between R* and MS. XP is and will be still strong in October or whenever the PC version comes. Vista is becoming "soon-to-be-obsolete", I mean officially.

Only Lazlow will return, and he is not really a character ...

Oh and use the edit button instead of double posting ... and I haven't tried Vista, but my dad told me that it is about 700 RON ( 'bout 200 euros ) and I think it's very expensive ...

anyways, I just got myself a new comp and I'm sure that it will run GTA IV flawlessly.

That said, just looking forward to it.

Thanks for the advice, but I personally find it less confusing to split my comments into two posts if they are on two different things. I'm sorry for this, but I'm posting here so rarely that it shouldn't really bother anyone.

Vista isn't too expensive. It's kind of expected for an OS. But it is pretty crappy at gaming. Honestly, the only reason I keep Vista on my laptop is because I don't game on it (I do normal everyday things like email, Word, internet, GTAF.com lol).

Nah it ain't backword man, if you look The 360 has a Unified Shader architecture like the new GeFiorce and ATI cards, so it's possible that it could support some DirectX 10 features ,although whether it could run with those settings I don't know, I have a 360 and have had a high end PC you see and as such, I feel more restrained and nervous on my 360 as if thiers a hichup in the framerate ,then ur stuck with it, something that can be fixed quite easily on PC with more powerful hardware and patches, tweaks. wheras the PS3's GPU is based on the older GeForce 7 series processor(actually an altered version of the very card I used to own a year ago, the 7800GTX) which is primarily a DirectX 9 chip. Ask around and people will tell you the same thing. Thanks for the reply anyway bud.

There will be GTA V at the time it comes to 2009-2010 lol.gif or GTA: [NAME] like the rest of the GTA series. If you count up how many GTA's there have been, we are on GTA 6 which is GTA IV, the next one would be GTA7, but thats not how it is. Don't really like the itea of numbers GTA1 GTA2 GTA3 GTA4, sounds boring GTA {CITY NAME} now that sounds good and exciting cool.gif

Well Vista is very expensive when your salary is less than $600 a month ... ( like my dad's salary )

Of course it isn't for others, because in the USA for eg. people gain at least 100 bucks per day ...

But I am what I am and I can't change it, and others can do w/e they want, I'm alone in this one sad.gif

kinda off topic eh? sorry for that ... sad.gif

That's why in your country, warezing is even localized by local communities through DC++ hubs by ISPs (or something like that).

Did you think people BUY Vista?

Well, a new computer is needed to run with vista, so when someone pays all the pieces for his computer, an oem version of vista wont make the whole computer much expensive.

These recent PC-release rumors sprouting up at numerous gaming sites must (hopefully) be putting a dent in GTA-only console sales, as people realize that the game will eventually be making it to PC.

I have to say it is curious that Rockstar haven't been on the rumours like a Thai ladyboy whore over a fat Texan American (my apologies to non-fat texan americans if there are any). I mean I don't put much stock in the rumour myself but I would have thought that it might at least force Rockstar to declare their stance on the PC version. The fact they haven't leads me to believe either A) there will be a PC version or B) they haven't got a clue what the hell they are doing.
