The only thing i see here is, that the pc version is gonna have the DLC included

Other PC exclusives coming to console? LOL, those were always Multi=platform games. Tehre are more console games then ever comign to PC like Devil may Cry 4, street fighter 4, Saints Row, Mass Effect, etc...

 

Far Cry was made by CRYTEK, Ubisoft now owns the rigths (Crytek sold it to them) and made it multi=platform (And terrible to boot) , Crytek went on to make another little PC exclusive called crysis, learn some facts man.

 

Crysis Warhead and Clear aky will be the best FPS games of 08, both PC exclusive.

There are ten times more in development for PC only the 3-4 coming to consoles, the number dwarfs the few mainstream ones coming to console, and they still suck on the console. World in Conflict has been out a year and still no 360 version.

They have since stated they were mis-quoted, and meant any new IPs in the future may be multi-platform, but Cryssi will stay exclusive through the whole trilogy. Once again, don't post if you don't know anything about the topic. Besides, as devs move multi platform, more new ones like GSC gameworld (Stalker), CDPROJECT (The witcher) start up and are PC exclusive. That is one big advantage, start up devs alwats start on PC as they do not ned to spend a fortune for the 360 and PS3 dev kits and royalties.

LOL, another dumb f*ck, no it is not, Cryengine 2 is running on consoles, crysis is NOT coming to console, they even stated this again recently. Where do you guys get your info. If anything comes to console, it will be a spin-off like far cry instinct, (A new IP for consoles) and be ten times worse, crysis is still PC exclusice, even THEy stated this, and so is warhead.

If you look at the libraries of games, PCs have a much more extensive catalog and always will. PC gamers have the luxury of having access to games that consoles will never get/have never gotten. PCs have gotten a lot of supposedly "console exclusive" titles like Mass Effect (which I hear is a quality port).

 

To make matters worse, Sony just recently stopped selling its 60GB console (the only one that was backwards compatible with PS2 games). Just another way for Sony to stick it to its customers. I guess it doesn't really matter though, because PS3 gamers will sing Sony's praises regardless. The loyalty, if you want to call it that, is mind-boggling.

 

The most unfortunate part in all of this is we probably will never know how great GTA can be. Though it may always excel in a couple areas: humor/satire, interesting environments, over-the-top action, and superb dialog it will always fall short of great titles like Mafia in almost every other area.

 

I can't help but think how short-sighted R* has become. Instead of making GTA the best it can be, they go for the easy profits. No doubt R* and Take 2 are happy with its success, but how much more profitable could it be if it were even better?

 

Whether they realize it or not, they are doing a disservice to the franchise, their customers (esp. PC customers), and the industry. First, the it's not as good as it can be, so customers aren't getting the best possible GTA, regardless of what R* or other knuckleheads say. Second, it's PCs that push the envelope. The industry NEEDS PC gamers to buy that expensive hardware console fanboys talk about. IF companies like NVIDIA don't push the envelope with graphics, how can console hardware get better? It's PCs that design the hardware, create the software, and give their ribs (hand-me-down PC parts) to build their consoles.

 

Also, it was PC modding community that helped keep San Andreas alive and buzzing. It did marvelously well even considering the delayed launch. How many more PC customers could R* have gained by making it a simultaneous PC launch? Ever think about that, R*?

 

I like to think of PC gamers as early adopters who have to have the latest and greatest thing. It's similar to the early adopters that bought HDTVs. They were very expensive when the came out. But, without their acceptance (purchases), the masses would have never have been able to afford these pricey pieces of technology. It's not only the hardware, but many other elements (online capabilities, direct x, shaders, etc.) as well. How many features have trickled down to (or were stolen by) the consoles? Console gamers should be thanking us.

 

Now, it's time for R* to rethink their position on PC gaming. Just wait till Mafia II hits. Everyone will be able to witness what is possible.

Not even a contest, I say AGAIN, research before posting. Those are the ones just coming soon, that have been previewd by IGN, imagine the number in development. Consoles library for strategy games is peanuts in comparison.

 

The biggest strategy game of all Starcraft II, Pc only, Sins of a solar empire? you guessed, it. When it comes to game library, especially strategy.PC owns all. Consoles get more press and hype, but the Pc has the best library of games by far.

 

Not to mention, console gamers have a long wait after the PC version before even getting those, just look at world in conflict, been out on PC for ages.

I hope that Civ rev really fails on console, the devs of that games have stated that it is a different game. How different I simply don't know, but I do hope that Civ V will remain PC exclusive series.

@medfreak - i like the boycot idea.  <--option 1

 

@aidan87 - i also like the get a used copy idea.  <--option 2

 

both of those thoughts work well for 'getting back' at them.  take2 and R* really like money and if we stick to either idea that is less money they will see from us pc gamers.  i think i am going for option one.  not because 'I' am pissed, but because of how they are treating my fellow brother and sister gamers.

 

i will be sticking with option one (i say that now) and my history proves that i hold firm on my boycots.  remember sierra online?  they used to own dynamix which produced 'front page sports football'.  the last installment of the game was so bugged(and unpatchable) that they recalled it.  the problem was they made it near impossible get a refund.  i sent them a polite letter to let them know i was a long time supporter* and was disapointed.......and then i never bought anything they were involved with again.  about the same time i had a Gravis game controler that went south.  i called them to see what i needed to do to replace it.  they sent me a new one (very fast) without having to send my broken one in.  they actually went on 'my word' and if i looked through my closset i bet i still have the broken one along with it's free replacement.

 

if you need to continue with the gta series go with option2. 

 

sorry for the ramble.  an off hours project at work that should have taken about a half hour took about 6hrs.  so i pretty much worked from 7:30am to the next day 4am

 

*long time supporter.  larry lightfoot was the first game i bought for my apple ][+ back around '81 i guess.

it won't hurt the PC game industry. there are still plenty of developing and publishing housing more then supporting the PC market. it will really just hurt the purse of R* and to a lesser extent Take2. boycotting a company that has left the PC players behind should not effect the companies that care about us. if anything it may help the PC market if we put our money in the companies that support us and not give money to the company(s) that plan on leaving us behind.

 

it is really looking like R* wants to focus on consoles. so why should we give them any money just so they can develop future games we will not have access to?

 

it isn't just the gta4 pc drama that has me upset at R* - i used to respect them until i read an article/interview where they went deep into how the H's run R*. they are notoriously nasty to their own staff. one quote from the article that sticks in my head is "get me a cup of coffee c*nt". i kid you not. the article/interview was in a print issue of wired a handful of months back.

 

funny side story:

a bunch of years ago i turned down an offer from EA Canada to join the NHL franchise staff, because i didn't feel a job in the game industry was stable enought for someone like me that needs to know i will have a job until i need to retire. since then the gameing industry exploded. reciently i was getting together a resume and cover letter to send to R* - i have since decided not to send it off. so unless i get an out of the blue call from some big company that i like/trust it looks like i will just continue along my current path. but hey - if there are any other game programmers out there that want to start an indie team send me a PM or email. i have never worked on an indie team, but they seem to be the latest craze, so what the heck.

 

gta4 homebrew port - i have to join the people that say it really can't happen. without the actual source code there is very little that could be done to convert a 360 or ps3 copy to work on a pc - sorry

PixelJunk Monsters, White Knight Story, Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice, Operation Darkness and some others you mentioned there are not strategy games.....

 

...and IMO mafia and gta can't 'truly' be compared as they are 2 different games that play differently.....so it will be hard to say one is better than the other...

 

...a better comparison is gta and saints row....
