Well then, Mr Croke, what are your views and suggestions to the current debate on this topic? Don't you think that some of these, what shall we call them, contestants over-reacting to my behaviour? I mean, I'm only trying to make a point, surely, you can understand that, I mean, a highly intelligent person like yourself has come across argumentations like these before, is my assumption correct?

Alright then, let's play by the rules. Is there a chance on Earth that the highly anticipated game, Grand Theft Auto IV make a return like past GTA games. True, GTA 1 was first released on the PC, not an Exclusive though. My thoughts about GTA IV releasing on the PC is, well basically, Zilch! Why would Rockstar release their Console only game onto the PC, LCS and VCS don't seem to have been released on the PC so why should GTA IV, even if it does which I GRETALY doubt, the PC will not be getting the 2 Special Episodes that are appearing on Xbox Live. What do my friends on this topic have to say about this?

Well it's all about the history. The only thing PC gamers have to pin their hopes on is what happened with the last three major GTA games (GTA III: LC, VC, and SA).

The last three major releases of GTA were all never announced for release on PC until after their respective console release-dates. In some cases, I would even go as far as to assume that Rockstar probably told numerous news sources that they weren't going to release it on PC, only to turn around and do the opposite once the console versions were on the shelves. This is all a strategy to try to force people who would otherwise buy the PC version, to make the move to the console of Rockstar's choosing.

There's also the extra sales revenue that the PC release will bring them. Being less than a year after the first release of IV, it would be another lucrative move should they make it, one that would be too good to pass-up on.

Well then my guesses are that GTA IV will be a port from the 2 BIG consoles, they are big and you know it. SO, no major differences there, are there? So what would you rather do, wait for the PC version or buy one in October for the BIG consoles? Since I have already Pre-Ordered GTA IV for the 360, the answer is written before I was writing this, as to which version I'm buying, even though I have Vista too.

So lets see you mentioned 9 games. Of those 9 games four are appearing on the PC or are actually out NOW for the PC. One game MGS4 will never be on the sh*tbox no matter how much you want it. That just leaves 4 games that are not CONFIRMED for the PC yet. You are doing well aren't you. By the way for the PC peeps check out that neogaf link some of these games are gonna make console kiddies cry biggrin.gif

I don`t wanna sound like a GTA IV PC hater but that link proves nothing ... Probably they speculated and put a random release date ... But I hope it is true smile.gif

@fes_2006: Yes, we have to wait longer but the PC version will be better

- better graphics/draw distance

- thousands of MODS, comparing to the few console mods

I mean, I'm only trying to make a point, surely, you can understand that, I mean, a highly intelligent person like yourself has come across argumentations like these before, is my assumption correct?

I see what you did thar... haha OH SNAP!

I can see your trying to make the point that Consoles are supposedly bigger and better than the PC, but your style of debate needs to be honed using some solid points and where needed some facts. I can point you in the direction of my esteemed collegue CharmingCharlie who will graciously furnish you with specifications of the modern PC and it's affordability in comparison with the so-called 'Next-Gen' consoles you are so obviously trying to defend, and also the availability of games.

I understand you are so obviously happy with the Consoles getting GTA:IV first before the PC market, but you have to understand that behind the Consoles, The Playstation and the XBox, there is a single company behind each of them who are willing to spend the money to tie in publishers with 'Exclusives' and content specific to each system, contracts. There is no such deal in place for the PC market as there is no one singular company behind the PC market for the publishers to make such deals, so for the Publishers in this case Rockstar, it makes financial sense for them to take up the offer of financial tie-ins, as this means they will haver larger resources to make the game bigger and better.

I have discussed this in the previous topic but the games might be deemed to be 'Exclusives' for now, as were the previous GTA titles (except the Stories strand, more later), but these games none the less did come out on the PC as the PC gaming market is in high-demand, due to the following, increased sales of PC's, better specifications, the ability to modifiy the games which benefit the publishers as it is akin to customer feedback, extra customers and double-sales of those who previously own the game on one of the consoles, but who want the PC version for some of the reasons I just mentioned.

As for the Stories strand of games, these were intended for the PSP market as Sony wanted a high-profile game to champion their foray into the hand-held maket, the games were also produced for the Playstation 2 purely to finish off Rockstars Contract with the PS2-Generation of consoles. The example I've used previously is that the contract for the Playstation2 could be akin to a 5 Album Record Contract, in that III, Vice City and San Andreas were like 3 Studio albums and the Stories were like 2 Live Albums, which anyone with an interest in music will tell you, Live Albums are a cop-out to fulfill the Contract. They could very well release the 'Stories' for the PC market as this will gain more sales and therefore more revenue for the company, but due to the low-profile of these and the fact they are effectively a re-hash of a previous title and that the generation those games were in are now considered to be verging on obsolete, the desision to release it on the PC would be purely financial.

But in the case of GTA:IV for the PC, it would not be a wholly financial desicision, it would be be based on the fact that they are a new generation of game and for the reasons I previously stated above there would be so much more benefit to the next installation of the game should they choose to release a PC version, due to modifcations and a greater pool of customer feedback. But the reason why they are not announcing any such official line on a PC version is down to those contracts with Sony and Microsoft, becuase they are inputting a large amount of money into the game and it's publisher and they understandibly want to gain as much sales from the Consoles market as they can get without the official line stating that there will be a PC version in the pipe-line. As Sony (PS and PC's), Microsoft (XBox and Windows) and Rockstar (The Makers) all know that a very large populace of Console owners also own a PC, so why should they deny the chance to make more money by saying to the console owners 'hey don't bother it will be out soon on the PC', when they can make more first day sales by keeping quiet now and waiting until they've sold vast quantites on the consoles then announce a PC version and sit back count the money from new and duplicate sales. If anything it works out even better for Microsoft as they have a large say in the PC market due to their operating system Windows, being the most common and preffered OS in the PC market, and Sony also are big name in the PC market and Rockstar will get the best of both worlds.

So it would be a win/win situation all round for them and us (except us PC only owners) to release the Console versions now, and announce the PC version later onces the Consoles have had their share of sales.

Umm,,laughable to say the least.

Crysis is going to be a DX10 game, the next-gen sarcasm.gif XBOX360 uses a modified version of DX9 and most of the games you refer to are going to be released for the PC as well(some are already released).hardly a corroding roster.

I own an Xbox360 but i can safely say that my year old PC owns it with regards to gaming, many games like oblivion have better frame rates.

The only reason most PC users on this forum (including myself) have such a negative opinion of consoles, is plainly because Sony stole the GTA franchise from PC, therefore console-izing the game, and turning Rockstar, who seem to be led like sheep, into complete console-whores. I.e. a company who asks "how high?" when a console manufacturer (in this case MS or Sony) says "jump!".

I never dissed consoles at all until the announcement and release of GTA III.

I'm not going to diss the consoles either, they are good and they do serve a purpose, they are after all very user friendly compared to PC's, but that's a case of sooner or later they'll be like PCs but with a set spec, and effectively a no-brainer to use.

But I'm not losing any sleep over the Consoles trying to take over everything, after all I'm at an age where I remember the big Amiga vs Atari and Amiga/Atari vs PC debate, and we all know how that turned out.

I understand R* needs funds from consolers to build the game. That's fine with me. It just allows for PC'ers to have a better game too. I hope it's very successful on Xbox 360 and PS3.

I don't see R* sitting on a finished product and not bringing it to a huge PC market. That makes no sense. The game was created on a computer, so how hard can it be to churn out a PC version? How much ADDITIONAL investment would it require? I'm certain that the RETURN ON INVESTMENT (again, keep in mind this is after the game is completed) would be VERY HIGH. This is after putting all the other reasons to bring it to PC (started with PC, etc.) aside. But, Take Two really doesn't need the money, right? I mean, they have money to burn correct (by not bringing it to the huge PC market)?

The PC version has always been SHOWCASE piece. The capabilities of the PC far outstrip what is possible on the console. Keep in mind that console hardware won't improve with time (till the next version comes out), where computer hardware is constantly evolving. So, console are good at what they do (stable gaming on a budget in a small package). But, if you want all those fancy lighting touches, maxed out animation, and high res detail (1920x1200 or 2560x1600), there's only one place to go.

Plus picture all the mods you could put in there. I never figured out how to use the mods correctly but still, to see pictures of the mods in the game would be so cool. The cheat codes also.

Like many people here, I don't have a problem with consoles either. I am all for something that brings gaming to the masses. But I will never have any time for people that say a £300 console can ever compete with even a medium priced PC of say £500 (that will get you a Duo 2 Core with a 8800GTS gfx card). I guess I don't really understand the mentality of your average console fanboy, just like they don't understand the very basic idea of technology.

It should come as no surprise to us old timers, like me and Gareth Cooke, we have seen it twice before. The first time was when the PS1 came out. Oh yes PC's were doomed and can't do what the PS1 can, people were proved wrong. It didn't shut them up though, because when the PS2 came out they said it all again, only to be proved WRONG all over again.

I expect exactly the same thing this time with the PS3 there will be people claiming doom and gloom for the PC, but the PC is already proving it not only matches the consoles, it leaves them standing. But I am open to the chance I may be wrong. So here is a challenge :-

Show me a game that is available on all three formats (360/PC/PS3) where the PC has the lesser version graphically and gameplay wise.

I look forward to seeing someone give it a go. One more thing for people to remember, the 360/PS3 are already utilising multicore processing. The PC hasn't even started yet, all the games I currently play are using ONE core of my duo 2 core ie Oblivion, Fear, Rainbow 6, C&C3 and many others. Anyway it will be interesting to see if anyone can beat the challenge.

When I see something on a PS3 or an Xbox 360, like these GTA IV screenshots or trailers, I can't but think how soft they look. I don't want to sound like I'm complaining or anything, but it looks like a VERY LOW end PC with all the settings turned down. It's funny to hear consolers say how good something looks. I laugh and say, "Compared to what? A Super Nintendo?" You can tell there is a lot of detail built in. It's just not that sharp. No worries though, because once it comes out on PC you will be able to crank it up.

You're right CharmingCharlie, consoles can never match a PC, unless they becomes PCs. Think about the sheer size of the unit. It doesn't have the physical space to match PC processing and graphics power. Look at a full tower case. There's enough room for a full-sized motherboard, huge heatsinks or water cooling, dual graphics cards like 8800 GTX's, much more room for faster, bigger hard drives. I have 2 8800gtx's myself and 4 Western Digital Sata drives (2 RAID 0 arrays).

Also, think about how old the hardware will be in the XBox 360 for example. I believe the Xbox 360 came out in November 2005. IT'S ALWAYS OUT OF DATE, because it's not possible to upgrade the graphics or processor. This is ALWAYS possible with a PC. Think how old the hardware will be around this time next year (perhaps when the PC version comes out). You're talking about OLD 2005 Console (more limited hardware) vs. NEW mid-2008 PC hardware. And, who knows when XBox 720 (or whatever they call it comes out)? Xbox 360 is definitely what they will be using for the "episodic content" too, through at least the end of 2008.

Conclusion: Consoles (Again) Suck. mad.gif PC gta4 must come out in may 2008.

They dont announce gta4 pc as they wanna sell as much console version of gta4 as possible.

The only 1 explanation why they act like they have forgotten about Personal Computer. sneaky2.gif

Gta is no more a PC game (as was originally), it is console game. mercie_blink.gif

Gta4 may be the leading title of Vista under "Games for Windows".

I imagine how I read on gamespy or somewhere else "Huh, gta4 is announced for PC, as it had been expected :-)" alien.gifalien.gifalien.gif
