GTA IV for PC

Well, I said GTA IV will probably run on older systems. You can't get lower then 9800PRO+3.0 GHz CPU (in my case) and still consider yourself a PC gamer. So, IMHO if your PC can run Crysis on low, it should be able to run GTA IV on a bit higher then low. That is if R* port that bastard at least decently.

I think so too. I mean, I've got a pc from 2002 (ancient, I know) but I'm still able to run GTA San Andreas on the highest settings

 

GTA IV will be a problem on that pc though, but by the time GTA IV will be released for pc, I will have a newer pc

if there was no PCs then there would be no consoles for them to shout about!!

 

and there would be no BIG hardware advancements for them which they get now

 

and even if they had released a next gen console now (with todays PC tech) they would get a huge difference due to the MAJOR hardware advances in the past 3 years!

 

Especially with the new DX10 GPUs

 

PS: there is rumours that ATIs next gen 4870 will CRUSH all of todays GPUs by a HUGE margin!!

 

and then that console will look even smaller than a bug!!

check your heatsink...you might need to replace the thermal compound or get a larger one.

SynTerro thanks, but I know that. I use stock vent which is just not enough (I keeps getting over 70 deg C easily) so I added another small vent and directed it to mosfet on MBO which handles CPU power supply. So now it's below 67 degrees C. Of course, I could buy a better sink, but this proc is just not worth it. I got it for free in exchange for some work. If it wants to burn I say let him . If it does I'll definitely buy a new machine

However, it's not dust issue, it's crappy Prescott issue. They just draw too much power for some MBOs. It works well on some crappy ones, but it causes fuss on my Abit.

I've seen one running at around 87C for days and days then NEVER burnt out. This kid across the hall from me had a bought-from-tv PC that the company broke the heatsink chassis when they installed it and then crazy glued it in place which of course only lasted a little while. He didn't even know there was a problem unitl I ran some diagnostics on his PC and saw the temp. He ran it for over a year without a good contact between the thermal compound and CPU. However he never played any games on his PC which would've surely strained it. LL, he used to have to leave the cover off the side with a fan blowing on it to keep it from shutting it down!!! And he didn't know what was wrong with it!

I bought and built a machine in 2003 for 1400$ it lasted 4 years before it startet to really struggle with new games and no upgrades at all(except new HDDs and a DVD burner but that has nothing to do with performance).

 

There is my point. You buy a machine, and after 4 years, you have to upgrade it to play the "newer" games.

 

Playstation 2 is like what 10 years old, and it's still playing its new games. Sure they aren't that much advanced, however, PS2's power has still YET to be tapped, but look how awesome, SOME of the games are. Gran Turismo 4 only used 25% of PS2's power. Xbox 360 4 years from now will still be playing newer games, even as tech for them get better.

 

Also I saw somewhere that consoles don't get upgrades? False. Xbox 360's are getting hardware updates. More efficient chips, slightly powerful GPU's, infact M$ is working to combine the CPU, and GPU into one super efficient mega chip.

 

I'd rather spend $300-400 on a new console, play all the new games, then have to buy something new for my PC, then have to open it, and carefully install it. Then after I have put in the new part, the old one is just sitting there.

 

Unless you got pockets to invest in a Quad Core, the new ATi 1GB GPU, and a MoBo with enought slots for 16GB of RAM that Vista x64 can handle, then its not worth it. All games made for the Xbox work on the xbox. All games made for PC, don't work on every PC. As far as I am seeing nowadays, at least us XBox users don't have to install sh** on our hard drives to play games. I shouldn't have to use up my storage space, or have to go out to buy a component to play games.

 

To the guy who said why did I factor the price of a monitor, it's because everyone doesn't have a monitor laying around, but everyone has a TV laying around. I could go on, but price wise, consoles win.

MSI Mobo K8M-400

AMD 64 X2 4200+ Dual Core @ 2200.00 MHZ

2GB Corsair

1 x 160GB SATA HDD (Windows Vista Ultimate)

1 x 160GB ATA HDD (Windows XP Home Edition)

2 x DVD-RAM

8-in-1 Flash Card Reader

ATi Radeon Pro 9250 128MB GPU

2 x 17" CRT Monitors

 

I just need a better GPU, and I would like to upgrade to two flat screens instead of CRT, plus add another 2GB of RAM. I can't play many games. I can play SA, the only PC game I have, on XP with the effects turned down. I just don't have the money, and supplies out here are outdated.

Upgrading is interesting...however, not everyone knows how to, or wants to pay someone to do it. You don't have to convince me on PC, I like EVERY single platform. I was trying to be a voice for the console users, that so many talk down on.

 

What game does not work on Xbox 360? Don't get it confused with PS3. Server issues, maybe, problems tend to happen when millions, actually 12 million people are playing online at the same exact time.

 

Most people have HD TV, a 26" starts at 300-400 bucks. I guess it depends on geography. Everyone in my 'hood has a HD TV. However monitors seem to run more out here than a TV.

 

PC's are cool. I know. It has the little things that consoles don't have, such as bullet casings, and bodies that don't disappear. But my whole point was it is wrong to dumb down consoles users. My biggest issue is:

PS3's CPU most likely runs a between 2.0Ghz to 3.0Ghz. Also it only has 256MB of RAM. Why in the hell can something with such low stats, out play my PC. Simply because it has a video card?

The hype of GTA IV is already dead if you ask me. And personally, it didn't deserve a 100, maybe a 95 or so. I mean, the game is pretty cool, but it's not the game that all reviewers said that it would be. The story, f*cking amazing. The graphics are al little bit... meh. This game should really come to the PC very very soon. I can already see how much better the game will be on the PC. On my PS3, i saw jaggies all over the place. And the framerate, wow! I crashed into 4 cars and the framerate went down to 15. Same thing happens when you hit peds. R* should really release this soon on the PC, so the game can really be what it was supposed to be. The best game ever.

and you can pick up a new GPU which can play GTA with full settings including AA and AF for just $20/£10/10 euros

Did you notice my flag? I'm from Norway

 

What worries me is that the UK site might have done a mistake. There are no official press release about the PC version as far as I know and very few sites has put up the game for PC. I also know that THQ has distributions deal with Steam so the states might get it there anyway.
