Ahhh... im out.... i lost my interest in the game... (totally)   sleepy.gif

October is just not for me...

In two hours you'll be going "Why can't they release the game, I want it so bad1!1!!!". Sorry for being an asshole, but if you're gonna be changing your mind so often, don't bother posting. Wait until everything's clear. I know my situation: I want the game, but if it doesn't come, it won't be the end of the world.

where did you saw me saing... OMG I WANT THE GAME SORRY FOR BEING AN ASSHLOE...

or some thing like that ?

listen ... i say .. i - lost - my - interest....

it means i dont want this game...

i found some thing more fun to play...

maybe some time later it will come back to me and i will want the game again... but it wont happen soon

and please stop being such a smart guy and telling me what im going to do the next 2 hours

You need to re-read that. I meant I was being an asshole. It was outside of the "s. And don't take things too litterally.

Yay, page 400.

I wonder how many PC-version sales they will lose because they over hyped and under-developed GTA IV.

Come time for the PC version: After a half-year delay, public disappointment over what was expected and hyped for the console versions, lack of any additional content in the game, and no-doubt boasting the same price tag as other new PC games at the time, it is no f*cking wonder that the PC version won't sell as well as the console versions.  We can expect the f*ck-ups who work at Take2, as well as the die-hard console fanboy f*ck-ups (console kiddies), to be bleating out their usual nonsensical rhino-sh*t when it comes time to comparing the console versions' sales figures to the PC version's.

People with brains know how well the game would sell on PC if it was released at the same time.  What the original Sony contract did to the GTA series will continue in a vicious cycle, until such time as these contracts are scrapped, and the game is developed properly.

I concur. There really are SO many impediments to the PC version (almost too many to list).

1) Delay - having to listen to console kids spoil details is nauseating. You care about preserving the experience for gamers, R*? Yeah, right...I guess that only applies to dopey console "gamers".

2) Mediocre port - capping frame rates, screwing up the draw distances, no enhancements whatsoever, poor controls, etc., etc.

3) Constant negative, belligerent, adversarial attitude/actions from R* - blaming PC gamers for the Hot Coffee incident, making GTA difficult to mod, throwing our emails to the trash bin, squashing an PC related information on the net or in the media, on so on...

4) Using consoles as the lead platform - this leads to a lower quality product for EVERYONE.

5) Marketing - virtually $0 spent on marketing PC versions of GTA.

6) Bad report/reputation with PC crowd - selling out to consoles, plus the culmination of all of the above over time wears down PC gaming crowd. Though I like to think PC gamers are a resilient bunch, DON'T underestimate this!

Any sales of PC versions of GTA is in SPITE OF the all of the above. Talk about PC gaming being behind the 8-ball with GTA...sheesh! R* gives the phrase new meaning.

I want GTA IV for its special combination of fast-paced, sandbox action with a unique humor/satire set in a rich map. I will be disappointed (because I'm a fan) if it's not released, but I'm not going to lose sleep over it. From the sounds of it, the fun factor is not as high as reviewers claim (due to scaling back of features, among other things). A PC version should help in this area, but I don't think it will fix everything.

Know this, Rockstar...

Other games HAVE and WILL better GTA IV in the "action-packed, fun" department. PC gamers are NOT stupid lemmings who can't put 2 and 2 together. Marketing is what helped "console gamers" propel this game to where its at. There is only so much PC gamers will take from you. You are not God, contrary to what you might think. Yes, I will miss the humor/satire and rich city map if you don't release it for PC, but I will be too busy with Mafia 2 or other great games to bother myself with it. Do the right thing! Even if you don't give a crap about the PC (which many feel you don't), do it for the purely financial reasons!

I guess there wont be news for a long time.

There might be a posibility of no PC version if Rockstar decides that way.

We are all hoping its an NDA situation and that Rockstar intends on doing a PC version.

Porting is cheap to do so I dont see a problem there.

I think everything has been said in this thread. We can stop talking until GTA IV PC:)

ther's something new to play in the meantime,it's Trackmania Nations Forever!

It is upgraded and re-done so don'think the interest gets lost as quickly as with the previous version.

Most interestingly it features ability of displaying in stereoscopic red-blue 3D!(but make sure the red in your 3D glasses is pure red, because the spy kids 3D's,I have,is slightly more violet than it should.)

see? I didn't color this one because it's a minor post.

Heh - that's a good game.

There's tons of stuff to play though. I'm currently mucking about with the following games in the free time I have:

  • TrackMania United Forever
  • Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 (with all of the expansions)
  • Portal
  • Audiosurf (strangely compelling even though I can't decide whether I like it or not)
  • Unreal Tournament 3 level editor (and associated tutorials)
  • Gears of War co-op

Occasionally I'll even give GTA-SA a quick bash. Bioshock would be on the list but I've not played it for a few weeks.

Seriously, there's tons and tons of stuff to play on the PC. GTA-IV may or may not happen but tbh I actually don't really care because I know that they'll most likely do a mediocre port to the PC anyway.

A little off topic.

Everybody says that piracy is killing the PC platform. Anyway, X360 owners go download GRID using torrents, it's available smile.gif

Fortunately the PC version isn't yet, which is very strange.

Just out of interest, what was the last game Rockstar released for the PC?

San Andreas

SA is also the last game that Rockstar North developed before GTAIV(excluding the devlopment of Manhunt 2 and stories as they was not mainly developed by rockstar north

I hate to say it, but Rockstar Games is a Console games company, and with very few exceptions the only branch in Rockstar that develeop PC games is Rockstar North.

exceptions

Max Payne 1 and 2( not really an exception, as the PC version was developed by Remedy Entertainment and are not assosiated with R*)

The Italian Job (developed by Pixelogic)

State of Emergency(developed by VIS Entertainment Ltd.)

Midnight Club II(The only real exception developed by Rockstar San Diego)

Yes, it will. Rockstar are probably working on it being able to be played on PCs without ridiculously high-end hardware.

I am very new to PC Gaming. However I am trying to branch into the world of PC gaming, next month I plan on buying a powerful video card, and another 2GB of RAM. I already dual boot XP and Vista so I have both platforms just in case.

However quoting the June issue of GameInformer:

"It's no secret that the PC gaming industry continues to struggle with a slew of issues. Rampant piracy denies developers and publishers compensation for their efforts. Consoles like Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 are encroaching even further into areas that were once the sole province of PC gaming. The multiplayer scene is a fragmented landscape where nearly every game's community is an island unto itself. However, the continued success of a number of PC-only titles and the enthusiasm of many gamers makes its viability as a platform undeniable."

I think the losing number of PC developers is simply that because piracy is out of control. It's easy to go to a website and download a game or two. Hell I downloaded SA before, however due to bugs and such, I know have a retail PC Copy of SA 2nd Edition. However it is wrong to downplay console gamers. Sure there are some INCREDIBLE games out there for PC. Crysis would be the PRIME example. It pushes PC's to the limit. The downside however is cost.

Sure a PC is cheap, and it's upgradeable over time. But when you add up the cost of staying up to date, and having a machine that will work with newer games, it's not worth it.

Xbox 360: Basic is $276 at my local Wal-Mart.

PC: Lets say a Dell XPS 720 H2C: $1200

4GB RAM: $120 ~ depending on where you shop.

Extra Hard drive for storing such games: $199

Decent sized HD LCD: $500

That's the equivalent right there. However the 720 will have more RAM, but just take $50 off that. Considering the 5 year cycle for consoles... you have to chuck out another $200-$300 for a faster core, unless the dual that came with yours (You do have a dual core right?) is still being supported. A new propiertory drive once they find a new medium to record games upon... $200. The list could go on. It is more budget smart to get a console, however, yes, for the hardcore gamers, PC is the way to go. Fine, I agree, but stop calling console gamers "dopey". 70% of the population must be dopey, cuz GTA ALONE outsold ANY game launch to date. Sure you have the right to bitch, but humble yourself, and be fair. I am all for GTA on PC, I would LOVE to see the mods for that, but don't be mad at us, be mad at R* for not doing it.

The problem with what you're saying, is:

If you buy a PC that can run better than a 360, it will continue to do so. Consoles don't magically get better hardware. It stays the same. If you have a PC that runs at least as good as a console, then any game that's on a console, you can run on that PC. Upgrading it further is only to enhance the experience; better graphics, etc.

Also, here in Canada, you spend $200 on a HDD, you're getting 1TB. If you want to save on costs, don't buy a pre-built, get your own case/tower, and build it all yourself.

Why the hell would you factor in the cost for the monitor. It's not like you're counting the price for the TV you use to play your console on...

I see, you are new to the PC Gaming and jugding by your post you still have allot to learn.

Lets take the cost of PC gaming, there is some tricks to that.

Custom built you PC will save you money and it is easier than you might think and result are often better than prebuilt. The time you buy hardware is very important, example when new revolutionary tech is about to emerge wait for it to come if the new tech is to costly right away wait a little more. Don't buy right before new console releases wait until after and make sure it is hardware that is better than the conole. This will assure you that you always can run games in equal or better than consoles for the rest of the console lifecycle.

I bought and built a machine in 2003 for 1400$ it lasted 4 years before it startet to really struggle with new games and no upgrades at all(except new HDDs and a DVD burner but that has nothing to do with performance).

If you buy a console today you get the cheapest model of xbox for 276$ as you say + the expence of extra stuff you need like if you have wireless network you need an adaptor for about 100$.

The cheapest XBox comes without a HDD so if you need one it cost 150$ for 20GB and almost 300$ for 120GB mercie_blink.gif on PC you get 1TB(1024 GB) for under 200$ yeah you heard me right UNDER 200$. Then comes the games, the games cost almost twice as much on console than on PC. Xboxlive, another way for MS to suck your money, I was really really suprised when I heard you have to pay to play online is many xbox games and use their live service. Fools I say, many of feutres XBOX live is something we PC gamers enjoy for free. I don't know if it's true but a friend of mine said he had to pay to change his XBOX live nick suicidal.gif .

Conclusion XBOX is cheap, but in the long run PC is actually cheaper and more versatile and usefull.

Edit: Something I forgot to add. If you buy a console TODAY it does not have a 5 year lifespan, 2 years have gone already.

you are right about this, but the problem is that newer PC games are developed to be played on the newest hardware...console games are specifically designed for THAT console. So in 3 years your PC might not be able to play the newest game (though it can still play the 3 year old game better than a console) while you will always be able to play the newest games on the console because they are designed around a specific set of unchanging hardware (in theory). Don't get me wrong, there hasn't been a console game EVER than can graphically compare to Crysis, but my 3 year old PC wouldn't play it...and it played ANYTHING when I first got it.

They improve yes, but not as fast as PC and not due to new hardware.

PC games also improve over time with bugfixes, when Half life 2 first came out I had 9600 pro 256mb GFX card, the performance of that game improver with new drivers and gamepatches over time, I went from 20 somthing FPS to almost 40 FPS in one year with same settings and hardware.

PC or nothing, I can afford it but don't want to downgrade. I rather trash GTA and go for the probably much better game Mafia II.

Maybe you could tell us WHY you think it won't come out for the PC .

and btw - I won't buy a console for just GTA 4 cuz both console versions have problems.

The game on both systems is known to crash quite a bit , freeze randomly during gameplay etc.

Well, over the life of a console, I think you could easily spend 3 grand on PC hardware to keep your PC up to date. Unfortunately, since many people can't afford that, there are MANY MANY more consoles out there than gaming PC's, so dev's will continue to make games for the consoles and at times ignore the gaming PC populace. If you want to be able to play everything, you will need them all...all the major consoles and a gaming PC.

FYI, My game has NEVER crashed or frozen. A PC version would be better for the simple reason that the mod community would make all kinds of cool things to do after completing the game...for this reason they may not come out with a PC version for quite some time. They want to sell their DLC and milk it as long as they can IMO

1. You don't need to keep your PC up to date, new PCs can run all games maxed atleast a year or two the next two years year there will be some games that you can't max out to run smoothly but you can lower your res and turn of some effects and you be good to go the 4-5 year you start to struggle(thats what my 1400$ 2003 machine did, no opgrade except a DVD burner and new HDDs)

2. There are over 60 million DX10 card sold vs. 30-40 milion XBOX360 and PS3 united, and thats hard facts.

3. In Europe PC gaming is strong even stronger than PS3 and Xbox 360 united in some countries, by their own I know no statistic that say PC gaming is weaker than the two in Norway.

4. I don't want to buy a console because I don't want to contribute to the bad trend that we see.
