Apparently on 13th December 2008 Niko and Roman will be finding a place on your Windows start menu just in time for the Christmas. No details on what additional GTA4 PC version features will be included, if it will be a Vista-only release or what minimum hardware will be required - but best put in a word to Santa for the latest Alienware hardware just in case.

There are plenty of cases out there for the larger cards. You definitely want something a little bigger. Here's what I use (along with a 1200W power supply...a bit overkill I know).

 

 

Even though this case is large (gives me a couple inches from the end of the card to the back of my HDDs), it would be nice if it were longer (not taller). It gets a little messy with 4 cables running to 8800s, 5 SATA connectors (4 HDDs and 1 DVD-ROMs), 5 SATA power cables, and 1 IDE DVD-ROM.

 

Seriously, can we stop saying "Quit talking about Valve, Mafia 2, and other games. Talk about GTA IV or GTFO!"? We are all PC gamers here (except the console fanboys who come on here to troll). We really can't discuss anything in main forum right now. Take 2 is the parent of Rockstar AND 2K Czech and both games lie in a similar genre. It makes sense to compare gameplay, graphics, business practices, and how it affects a possible PC launch of GTA IV.

 

To those of you complaining: STOP and add something constructive. We don't need an iron fist on this thread.

Waiting for the PC versions sucks and R* should understand this...

but every time i get less interested in the game... it comes back after like... 15 minutes...

you know, the part when you start to imagine your self playing and doing stuff you just gotta do and check

and you start planing your way of playing the game...

and over and over and over

and i can't take it any more.... if R* wont release it... seriously I'm going to try my best to forget about R* and GTA IV

R* spent a lot of money for comercial information, different from czechs, so when we knew about gtas from comercials, we knew the first time about mafia by seeing it in the shelfs.

South park is actually in mid season break, next episode is 1208(season 12 episode 8), I love the WoW spoof they did and a GTA spoof will be hilarious, though I hope the PC version will come first so they don' spoil anything.

I think PCrat hit the nail on the head. Venture to guess how large the marketing budget is for Mafia II compared to R*'s for GTA IV. I'd be shocked if it's even 1/10 of the size. It's an unknown just like how many copies R* sold of the PC versions (officially) of GTA III, VC, and SA.

 

Think about it. Have you seen or heard of ANY marketing pieces for Mafia II? I've seen virtually none, including on the internet. It's a shame really, because games like this tap into the heart of PURE gaming pleasure. They truly are works of art like the first Mafia. They reach a level GTA has NEVER known. If ONLY R* would fully leverage it's true potential by using the PC as the lead.

 

Do I give a rat's ass how Mafia sold? NO. Sure, I wish it would blow GTA IV away. But again, go back to the marketing. It's AMAZING what they did with Mafia considering the budget. With R*'s budget for IV, it should be TEN TIMES better than what I hear it is (I will reserve final judgment till I play it though).

 

Pointing to sales when comparing these games is more of a pissing contest. We can leave that to the console children. THIS is about gaming in it's purest form. That's why I love the PC as a platform. Do away with all the marketing B.S. Do away with licensing fees. Do away with fees to play online (Xbox Live). Do away with all the limitations consoles impose upon gamers (no upgrade ability, limited resolutions [720p?...Ha, ha...I laugh at that], limited controller use, poor reliablity....I could go on and on and on...).

 

Now...I love GTA AND Mafia. Mafia may turn off some of the kiddies, because you can't have sex with prostitutes and run them over, or use a cell phone. But, I love history and the different eras. It was a different world and Mafia realistically puts you into that world like no other game...EVER!

 

Honestly, the biggest draw for me to GTA is the humor/satire and fast, over-the-top action. It provides a cynical look you could only get from a couple of British ex-patriots (Sam and Dan Houser). THAT is what makes it special. Mafia is devoid of this (Which is totally fine. It's what makes both unique and special.). Yes, missions were easy. But, they did a very good job of crafting the cities and creating that special vibe. Then, they gave it an easy, arcade like feel. Throw in some great radio stations and entertaining side missions and WAH LA, you have yourself a great game.

 

As I said before, it's not the the wait that is most bothersome. It's the kids with all their spoilers. This a major reason why people (us PC gamers) feel R* is hypocritical and duplicitous when they always say they don't want to give out too much information, because it will spoil players' experiences.

 

Guess what R*?....you are already doing that to PC gamers by delaying the PC launch. You KNOW how console children are. Yeah, it only hurts your rep with PC gamers, because it makes them feel like second-class citizens and makes you look like hypocrites.

Passing on the PC version would effectively amputate a huge part of the fanbase and thereby greatly reduce the shelf life and continued sales of the game. I'd personally like to believe Rockstar are smart enough business people not to be throwing a valuable PC market away like that.

Nice set up, but I cant see myself buying an entire setup for one graphics card... Another possible solution would be just to buy something within range of my series, see if the sucker fits, and bam, new card.

 

 

I have one thing in my mind I should try, since my dad does project with DELL, he occasionally goes down to the assembly factory in Limerick, Ireland. I'd ask if i could come along, and maybe... Find someone I could talk to about my issue...

 

 

Supreme bonus would be if I could buy raw assembly parts, eg: PSU's and the sort. I remember we got a laptop keyboard parts directly from there...

and seriously i have most of the companies but i like their products... such as vista... some of you may have problems with it

Oh boy I hate to break this to you GTA_Godfather. The reason why there is no custom radio station in the game is because Rockstar didn't implement it.

 

The 360 has the ability to play your personal mp3 tracks whilst you play the game (but they play over cutscenes etc etc). I can't remember if the PS3 has that ability too (I don't think it does), I know PS3 fanboys were bitching about it for a while . So it is possible for the consoles to handle custom MP3 playback during games it's just Rockstar never put the option in.

 

Now since we will get a straight port from the consoles I don't think we will be getting a custom radio station option on the PC either. I admit it stinks, the radio stations aren't great and bugged to hell I only every hear 3 songs looped. I really do miss the custom radio station option and I think it is a big minus against GTA 4, I mean for christsake GTA 3 had it.

BTW, I love that Spinal Tap clip. It epitomizes the console gamer. Instead of talking about levels on amps, it's more like discussing screen resolutions today. I can see the console fanboy talking how graphically sharp GTA IV is when you try to explain how low res high definition really is (like 720p). After simply explaining the differences in easy-to-understand terms and numbers they pause for 5-10 seconds. Dumbfounded they say........I have 1080p.

I believe the PS2 versions of GTA never had custom radio stations due to the fact there was no where to store the mp3's. However the xbox 1 was very similar to the PC version and did have the same custom radio station option that the PC had. It was all down to the fact the xbox 1 like the PC had a hard disc and you could store mp3's on that hard disc.

 

Now this generation perversely it's the 360 without a hard disc as standard and the PS3 does have a hard disc as standard. Yet neither machines have the custom radio option !!!!!!!!!! The 360 can make use of the inbuilt ability to play music whilst playing games but the music will be continuously played through all cut scenes and when walking. The PS3 does not have a built in ability to play MP3's (it is supposedly coming in some future firmware update).

 

The fact of the matter is Rockstar left the custom radio station out of both versions not because of technical problems, infact I am not sure why they left the option out to be honest. I get the feeling it might have had something to do with that Zit/buy tracks option they were going to implement. They originally planned that you could "bookmark" music you hear on the radio and then purchase the tracks (the bookmarking is still there but the option to buy the music isn't). Obviously if they had a custom radio station you could just bypass that all together and use your own MP3's

 

Now whether we will see a custom radio station in the PC version is anyone's guess although this is Rockstar we are talking about here and I would hedge my bets on it being a straight port and nothing new in it. So right now I think the safest course of action is to assume there will not be a custom radio station option.

Seems like a nice gem of a game, but nothing you should loose sleep over... Starcraft 2 and the new Team Fortress updates are keeping my mind busy. Pity though, cos I was hoping this game would blow me over.
