GTA IV for PC

If you can drive across the whole map in 90 seconds, Id say it matters....

Sorry to disappoint you, but when I played IV I took an annihlator (not sure of its spelling) from the north of Alderney and I decided to fly to the airport (the other end of the city) and it took me less than a minute, that's like 50-60 seconds or even less. Conclusion: Liberty City isn't that big. While it doesn't bother me (size of the city), the thing that bothers me most is its lack of features and a truly ALIVE city as Whorestar claimed a couple of months ago.

So if really Empire city will be 10 Squared miles then it's fu*king GIGANTIC and it will be like 70-80% of San Andreas. Compared to LC, which is around 50% or even less of San Andreas.

And as mkey said, size doesn't matter as long as the gameplay is great and the city is believable and alive, which is what IV lacks, while Mafia 2 has it all based on the screenshots and released info: great features, alive city, awesome graphics, incredible detail (I saw in one of the screen shots a man walking with a dog!), likely a great storyline and the most important thing, wait for it, it WILL be released on PC! Unlike other games.. *cough* GTA IV *cough*

when it comes to the size of the map Just Cause doesn't have competition, even SA.

as I said before, Just Cause 2 is the main thing to look forward to, with all the lame and pointless side missions taken out, a lot of new interesting features added and a new tropical, south-east asian setting, JC2 is the one I'm most looking forward to.

Mafia 2 will probably be good and even more than that, but it isn't GTA, if you want to discuss that GTFO of here and GTFI (get the f*ck in) Mafia forums.

Guys.... stop talking sh*t all the time. I know, that most of you are loving Mafia (or anticipating the sequel), just because we can´t play GTA IV. All the time this "GTA IV vs. Mafia II"-sh*t, its enough. You should know, that 2k games and 2k czech (developers belong to take2 as Rockwhore does, too. So Take2 will make the profit anyway, so will Rockcock.

 

In the end, if you buy Mafia II or GTAIV, Take 2 will make profit, and they still treat us like little f*ckos who will put money in their asses. We can´t even boycott them by buying Mafia II, how ironical.

Mk - taking out options for the 'kiddies' - why is it you sould like such a twat. The target audience is 18 plus - regardless of whose hands the game actually gets into.

Well, twat, GTA IV has 18+ rating (content wise) but gameplay is somewhere near 9+ rating. Why? The game is BLOODY easy. Gunfights are ridiculous (IMHO) and are more like pillow fights (IMHO). "Hot pursuits" are made for people that have ZERO skill, you can miss the street, get a flat tire, loose your way in the town, change car, scratch your balls a few times and still your target is somewhere behind the first corner. Come on! Pursuits are trivial.

 

A friend of mine - one that has played and finished SA and VC on PS2 has not been able to do so without cheats AND assistance with some particular missions. Yes, his gaming skill is rather low. Guess what? He completed the GTA IV storyline in matter of few days (it took longer as he doesn't have a lot of spare time - something like 25 hours) WITHOUT any cheats or ANY help whatsoever. This is a game made for kids.

 

We can talk crap all day long, missing this and that but one fact can NOT be denied - GTA IV is a game with serious gameplay issues.

 

Also, it's R* who started bashing GTA IV, not us.

It is NOT weird, the entire Rockstar team all pissed off for a month's holiday the minute the game hit. So at this current time Rockstar's offices are manned by temps called Debbie and the only thing she is likely to announce is that her "crab infestation" has cleared up. So I say again you will NOT hear ANYTHING about the PC version till the end of June or middle of July, you may not like it but that is the way it is

 

As for mkey82's comments about the game, I can concur this is probably the easiest GTA I have ever played in my life. Not once in the game did I feel challenged. Infact the only difficulty I had with one mission was down to me expecting too much of Rockstar. Let me explain (will do my best not to do it as a spoiler), you have to get onto the roof of a building to snipe someone, simple enough eh. So here is me thinking "right I don't want people to see me getting onto the roof so I will use the fire escapes". Oh but wait I can't reach them, no problem just park a car and grab on to them. So I climb the fire escape but couldn't get onto the roof from the fire escape. I now went looking at adjacent buildings, you know maybe you had to climb their fire escapes and leap onto the right roof... erm nope. In the end I figured "f*ck it" I will go up the damn stairs, lo and behold you HAD to go up the stairs, there was no leeway for you to be creative. It felt like Rockstar were going "you will play the damn game the way WE WANT you to play it".

 

Overall this game isn't difficult and that comes from someone with 20 years of mouse and keyboard usage but only 3 weeks joypad usage. It just feels totally dumbed down so that minors can play it, even if technically they aren't allowed too. This is not an adult game by any measure, this may be an 18 certificate game but it is definately aimed at 12 year olds gameplay wise.

You will never get a AAA console selling game like a GTA games and expect the in depth gameplay of Flashpoint. The game is too easy for you as you are an advanced PC gamer. The series has to be aimed right at the middle ground.

Just a little FYI, the 8800 isn't the best card from nVidea, the 9800 is.

FIrst one was pretty damned fun, though a bit repetive and a slightly wonky port... exaggersated physics are fun sometiems.

 

 

 

EDIT: Jsut checked out some Just Cause 2 info, it'll apperently be 1,000 sq/km. Holy mother fudgin' shee-ite.

 

 

 

 

Even half that would be amazing. though hopefuylly it'snot all empty space liek teh first...

Day by day I'm growing less interested in GTA4. I still am, but by the time it comes out, I won't be the first person to get it on PC. (Unless there is another special edition offer).

What people say about the difficulty level of the game worries me?

 

Some questions

Is there a difficulty level adjuster? If so how easy is easy and so on.

Is there a way to turn of the Autoaim system?

Are the hitboxes big or realistic? and does it differ from peds/cops and yourself?

With maximum wanted level is it easy to get away?

 

CC:

You could not even use a helicopter to get to the roof and get everyones attention?

Just Cause:

I played the first game on PC and they did many errors with the PC version(I have never played the console version). The shooting was absoulutly terrible it looked weird and funny and was way to easy and it used autoaim as standard, I don't remenber if there was an option to turn it off. Driving was neither realistic or fun, the stunts he did with the car looked akward and stiff. The enemys AI was pretty much straight forward and dumb and enemys often spawn right infront of my eyes and in areas I just cleared.

 

If they all these things better I might buy it.

Charlie's right. This is NOT unusual. R* employees do get that 5 week vacation. I too doubt we will hear anything till mid June. My best guess is June 16-30. If ANY info is released before then, I would be quite surprised.

 

Perhaps they would announce in July. I just feel like that is too long though as 6-8 weeks is the norm for them and interest is beginning to wane as it is. Keep in mind,San Andreas was announced for the PC a full 7 weeks after official console launch. This would put a possible GTA IV PC announcement at or around June 17th. If R* doesn't announce by the end of June my optimism would be severly dampened, because it starts cutting down the time from announcement to launch. R* simply HAS to get the PC version out by the end of the year. Sales would take too big of a hit as they would miss Christmas and PC gamers would already have a lot on their plate (Mafia II, Starcraft 2, Spore, and others).

 

Cheer up, it shouldn't be too long now.

i can't find any recent reviews of the 9800 GX2 on there...they are all tests before the card was released. But seriously, the 9800 GX2 does beat the 8800s, not by a huge amount, but certainly gets more performance

Oh yeah, Far Cry 2. This is one I'm eagerly awaiting too. It's one that's designed around the PC (UNLIKE GTA IV), so it will obviously put their console counterparts' inferiority on full display. Gotta love it.

 

Can't get enough of games where PCs are the lead. Hey, I gotta put my 24" Dell widescreen 1920x1200 res. display (powered by 2 NVIDIA 8800 GTXs) to good use.

but every time i get less interested in the game... it comes back after like... 15 minutes...

It really puzzles me when people talk about TWO cards...

 

I live in Ireland, where there isn't a big PC modding culture, you get your 1,500 euro Dell and you're happy to do anything with it.

 

I'd love to be able to do what you do, customise my PC (Dell Dimension E520). I currently have a ATI X1300PRO graphics card, which I think is very decent, it plays TF2 and half-life 2 flawlessly, at the highest settings. But obviously, technology improves so you always need to upgrade.

 

Here is what I want to do:

 

Buy a GOOD graphics card, something that is beefy and will last a long while. I was looking all these different ATI Radeon series cards, and I'm getting worried if they will fit or not. Same goes for Nvidia, as long as it fits, I'm happy.

Power supply is another issue, I'd need to get something in the 600W range, and again, I need it to fit...

 

 

I'd love to find out if its possible or not... I've tried hundreds of forums to no avail, I've scoured Dell, unhelpful as ever...

 

Two death traps I'm avoiding like rape:

- A card that fits, but compromises on performance drastically

- A really awesome card, but when I'm about to put it in, I realise it's an inch too big...

- Power supply that messes with everything and ultimately fries my PC...

 

As you can see, I'm an utter noob when it comes to this, but when GTA 4 comes out I'd love to have the best gaming experience possible.
