These are the system requirements for Mass Effect, a decidedly good looking port of an xbrick game:

Minimum System Requirements:

Operating System:

Windows XP or Vista

Processor:

2.4+GHZ Intel or 2.0+GHZ AMD

Memory:

1 Gigabyte Ram (XP)

2 Gigabyte Ram (Vista)

Video Card:

NVIDIA GeForce 6 series(6800GT or better)

ATI 1300XT or better (X1550, X1600 Pro and HD2400 are below minimum system requirements)

Hard Drive Space:

12 Gigabytes

Sound Card:

DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card and drivers

Recommended System Requirements:

Operating System:

Windows XP or Vista

Processor:

2.6+GHZ Intel or 2.4+GHZ AMD

Memory:

2 Gigabyte Ram

Video Card:

NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX or higher.

ATI X1800 XL series or higher

Hard Drive Space:

12 Gigabytes

Sound Card:

DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card and drivers – 5.1 sound card recommended

The PC version of IV probably won't look any better than this port so if Rockstar does as good a job on the port as these guys the system requirements should be very lenient.

I agree I cannot see the PC system req being any higher than these.

Oh common at least this game would require a dual Core above 2.0ghz because of all the physics !

I will say the speculated CPU requirements

Processor: AMD X2 or Phenom Multicore CPU 2.0Ghz (or Higher)

Intel E or Q series multicore CPU 1.8Ghz (or Higher)

No one has speculated internet requirements

Minimum.

Internet: 512kbps-1Mbit Download/ 128kbps or higher Upload for small scale hosting

Recommended.

Internet: 1.5Mbit Download/ 256kbps required for large scale hosting

No body has specified what service packs are required for windows either, i will do this haha !

Minimum.

Operating System: XP SP3

Recommended.

Operating System: XP SP3 or Vista SP1

Also i think recommending a dated DX9 series GPU is pushing it, i can barely run the latest games at medium smoothly, so here is my recommendations for the GPU

Minimum.

Video Card: 256MB memory, DX9 compliant.

ATi X1600

NVIDIA 7600

Recommended.

Video Card: 512MB Memory or higher, DX9 or DX10 compliant.

ATi X1900/X3600/X3800/X4800 series

NVIDIA 7900/8600/8800/9600/9800 series

Is there Sp3, I only knew of Sp1 and Sp2.

SP3 adds a performance boost and will basically be the last update XP will ever see, it ads a bit of performance.

Remember how GTA:SA pushed for XP SP1 and would not install/ run without it.

Probably same thing will happen with GTA:IV

We can all agree by now that the PC version won't require buying 600 euro worth of upgrades. It will work fine for PC's that are around 1 to 2 years old, I hope anyway...

Hey can someone from Australia help me here; How much will a new computer (without monitor, mouse, keyboard etc) that will be adequate for new games?

My computer can run current-gen console games (ports, of course. Or developed side-by-side) much better than the consoles, so I'm not worried.

Poster above, I can get my -current- computer for $1200 CAD total. Though I've seen some horrendous prices for PC parts in AU so I guess you'd ahve to add 20% or so to that.

Though that's with two widescreen monitors and three HDDs.

Something around $800 should get you a decent gaming PC.

The mods took it down, but I agree. I think I'll just be direct linking to this thread for PC updates until I play the game  mad.gif

I expected something like this would happen so, when the game was leaked, I removed the link to the main forums from my bookmarks and replaced it with one linking directly to this thread. It seems that it paid off! biggrin.gif

Better safe than sorry...

a realistic list of things to improve for PC:

-euphoria must compute non-stop,i can see lots of clipping in there right now

-foreign language must be subbed while subs are off(main characters only,w/o Lil J)

-things like carwash should be skippable(it's cool for the first time, but the scene is a waste of time)

-cutscene start and end should not be that apparent,it's possible to load the content before it's triggered.

-I haven't seen moving slides or different shell types, prove if I'm wrong.

Could you possibly expand on what the specs would be like for an ~$800 rig?

Hey guys, don't know if it has been posted but here's even more speculation about an eventual PC version, pretty interesting http://pc.ign.com/articles/871/871415p1.html  cool.gif

Awesome read, thanks for the link!

I've never understood why people find driving on mouse and keyboard so... unwieldy. Flying, I can understand, *shakes fist at flight school* but driving seemed pretty easy to me. Plus, any discomfort in the driving is far outweighed by the superior precise aiming of the mouse.

f*ck YEA! Modding on the map again! THis article is going to bring modding a breath of fresh air <3

(they directly linked to the GTAGarage Total Conversions list!!!!!)

For $600, I built myself a PC with the following:

ATI X1950pro video card

E2180 CPU, easily overclockable to 3.0 Ghz or more!

300 GB Hard Drive

2 GB DDR2 800 RAM

Sweet Antec Nine Hundred case with near-silent 3 FANS!

Antec Earthwatts 80-plus certified power supply

WAY better than a comparatively-priced store-bought PC biggrin.gif

So I can play even Oblivion with 40+ FPS! I don't have ANY idea why people claim PCs are too expensive! They've been smoking something bad! That cost about the same price as a top PS3-and I won't have to completely replace it for YEARS! In four years when people are shelling out another $400+ for a new console because the PS3 is obsolete, I'll be buying a new video card for $100 that will make all of my games look twice as pretty as their new console!

That is, of course, not even mentioning the various other qualities that make PCs superior if you ever have to research something or write a paper!

Well I think you guys actually have it a lot cheaper in the US and UK. I'm pretty sure everything is more expensive(regardless of exchange rate) over here in Australia.

So I was asking about a new computer in AUSTRALIAN dollars. AUD.

And again, I don't need a monitor, speakers, mouse or keyboard.

its because of high shipping rates, since Australia is so far away.

I don't know anything about Australian prices but I'm guessing 800AUD would be enough to build a descent PC with a C2D, 2GB RAM and a 9600GT/8800GT.

Would be a bit more than that. My AU buddies tell me many things are flat rate, etc. Like "$1.99" is unheard of there... PS3 is like 800 bucks (1000 at launch?) etc.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "$1.99" but PS3 was $1000 when it first launched and is now hovering around $700. Might be ~$15-20 cheaper if you go to a major retailer like Big W or KMart instead of EBGames.

Seriously, EB sent me an email about this "fantastic deal": sarcasm.gif

For me it's possible to find new GeForces for recommended price, but PS3 costs everywhere from $800 to $1100

I'd say closer to $1000AU, depending on the overall quality of the setup you'd wanna put together.

A decent case will still set you back about $150, you can pay about the same for a half-decent power supply, and you're looking at a minimum of $220 for a 8800gt/9600gt quality graphics card. Factor in motherboard, cpu, ram, hard drive, cd... you could blow a grand easy.

Back on topic, I have two capable machines (both core2quad, 2gig ram), and despite already owning two copies of GTA4 on the ps3 I'd buy it again in a heartbeat if it made it to the pc platform. No brainer.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "$1.99" but

See what I mean? tounge.gif That's "1 dollar and 99 cents". But all of you guys stuff is rounded, and not to the nearest dollar, but to the nearest 10 or 100 in some cases tounge.gif
