GTA IV for PC

So, I hope this topic is actually starting to come to some conclusions.

Is the console noobs gone? Good!

Now I can state my opinion on this matter.

I played a bit of the game, driving may suck to the majority of the players because it takes a lot of getting used to. The shooting is well done in my opinion, don't really care for the auto aim feature though. Honestly, I find that R* has matured up the game a bit, no more super cheat codes where you can get a jetpack and a military jumbo jet and tank and destroy the world. It focuses more on key elements of the game, not unrealism. That is what makes this game so great from the others, R* are trying something else, so I would consider it like a beta.

As for a PC version, it is absolutely necessary that it is ported over. R* has done it for almost every series in the whole compilation. I believe they are still trying to cover up any vulnerabilities of a possible "Hot Coffee Mod" or anything like that. Piracy can easily stop sells of products, making the supply high and the demand lower. They are probably going to resolve that as well sort of like how Ubisoft does it with the whole SecuRom protection. I really wouldn't mind seeing them take it to the next level. If they can secure it then hell, that is great news. They might even remove mod making abilities and options, I would still get the game.

I would really like to see this game still have the ability to mod. I am sure that they can easily put in more slots for players on the servers. And for the people that are saying that computers can't handle it. They are absolutely wrong to the mightiest extent. Just because they have a 500$ computer from Wally World doesn't mean the rest of us do. I expect to see some sign in the next 1-2 months with 5 being at the most. If it doesn't come 5 months from now I give up all hope. Once announced maybe another 5-8 months for it to be released. But it has to come out on the PC. I say we just cast our votes, and let the countdown begin.

The answer to both piracy and hot coffee: Steam.

Obviously the pirates will crack it sooner or later, they always do, but they'll avoid this problem they had with IV being leaked. No pre-release leaks. As long as they release it on Steam first and then retail, that is..

Modding would require unpacking the Steam files and making them playable outside of Steam, which would probably require poking around on unsavory sites. If any calamities came up, like Hot Coffee, Rockstar could blame 'the software pirates' which sounds much more evil to the mainstream media than 'the modders'.

Pirates already have cracked Steam games, I won't say how, because I do not want to get banned, but it is crackable, and Steam is moddable, They'd probably make something ala Garry's mod for it too, and not to mention, Almost every Steam game afaik has almost said "COME AND MOD NOW BEFORE WE SLIT YOUR THROATS!" to get us to mod it, although Rockstar need to get their knickers out of the knot they are currently n, as although PC does have a few pirates, Proves that Consoles have pirating too, since about 30k people downloaded the leaked version afaik.

We all know that steam games is being pirated, but we are talking about minimalizing the risk of leaks before the actual release and that can steam do. We also know that steam allow you to mod as Valve is very open to modding and even provide tools for it. But they can also put ekstra limits to modding if thats what the developers wants, it won't prevent it but make it more difficult to the avarage joe. Steam can also provide a quick solution to a hot coffee like scandal though I don't see why R* will make that mistake again.

Rockstar are not going to implement modding in an eventual Steam release, they will be looking to curtail it as much as possible.

Everything that has to do with modding, how userfriendly it is and how much could be changed has been researched and developed from scratch by very talented community members. Rockstar has never supported modding, rather than that they have tried to lock down their formats as much as possible. Nothing will change here. Even if HL2 and other Valve games are very mod-friendly and Source has an SDK for it, I highly doubt R* will ever take that route.

Also, am I the only one who thinks the hardcopy, the disc, the map and manual are just dust collecting items? Does everyone have the magic ever expandable attic where they throw all the stuff that's kinda cool but really useless? orly.gif

Speaking of manuals, does anyone know what the manual is like in IV? I mean, is it just some sh*tty little paperback thing or is it hardcover like SA? I <3 my SA hardcover manual because it made the price of the game more worth it to me. But it's still a dust collector, I must admit.

Well its not a hard cover, it is better then your average fare for example the wonderful black and white EA manuals that are made up of like 3 or 4 pages. Its set out like a tourist guide to the city, much like past games.

I have never expected that either. I'm hoping but not expecting. I said that the devs can put extra limits to modding through steam if they want to, meaning you have to crack it to run it outside steam to mod it.

I think it would be awesome if they released gta4 for PC because I dont yet have an xbox360 or ps3, though I wanna pick up a ps3 sometime just for this game.. But if it came out on pc I might just pick that up instead

I really think the steam idea would fit in perfectly with R*'s business model. They might even force you to buy GTA IV along with some other older or up and coming titles for $60. I believe there's probably a tiny chance, say 10%, that they won't release the game for PC. My guess is that GTA IV is a beta GTA version for the new RAGE engine (maybe the PC version will be tweaked?), meaning they wanted to see what todays equipment could handle. I further think that we'll either see GTA V within 18-20 months or they'll somehow make a holdover version like LCS/VCS on the ps2.

Give it a month or two. GTA IV is not going anywhere.

If it's not announced for PC by then, I think it has less than 50% (my wild guess) chance of being released at all. $500 or how much ever it costs for a PS3 where you're at is a lot spend for a game, especially if you are use to PC games (meaning you will need to lower your expectations if you're going to play it on a console). I'm sure that $500 could be put to better use.

Oh BTW...

Bask in the warm light PC graphics. It's a beautiful thing. If R* used the PC as the lead platform for GTA it could look amazing, like this...

Every GTA IV have been released for PC after some months. Rockstar wont deny anything! Many popular gaming sites are taking pre-orders of the PC version. Rockstar are AWARE of this, and they are not doing anything to sort it out. I guess that are some very, very good signs!

You've said it yourself about 10,000 times that a PC version is an inevitability. f*ck good signs. Just release the frigging pc version already, within 3 months would be nice if its not too much trouble dozingoff.gif

Nah, we're just leverage. Leverage for console sales lol.gif

Which makesya feel all warm and appreciated inlove.gif

Its not like we're going to get a meticulously enhanced port, just a standard plugn'mouse aim/+5 player server kind of variant sneaky2.gif

How could stores sell pre-orders if the pc version ain't confirmed. Or is that a confirmation that it's coming to pc?

Either you're lying otherwise the shopkeepers are stupid.

That's a preview shot, preview shots always look much better. I don't think it will look like that in actual gameplay.

mkey82,

I know what you mean. It's a bit of a buzz killer. No doubt it will be better than ever and will be great to play on the PC, but...I don't think it's as revolutionary as most of the the boot-licking reviewers claim. A lot of features that I thought would be really nice are not included. I'm talking about usable trunks, portable MP3 players, no in-cab cameras on the subway, and so on. Some of these were mentioned in previews. Were these features cut at the last moment?

Also, from what I gather, like you stated, the missions are too similar to those in previous GTAs (easy, somewhat repetitive, less than intelligent AI....blow this up, snipe this guy, steal this car, etc.).

I'm not worried about glitches or graphics quality so much. R* usually does a fair job with that when they port and a lot of these issues have to do with the limitation of consoles.

The more I think about it, the more I look forward to Mafia II. Granted we don't know much yet. However, the graphics have made a much bigger jump than SA->GTA IV and it does not seem to be overhyped. Also, there seems to be even more depth there. I really liked how there were no markers over enemies heads, how you could check killed enemies' pockets, how there weapons lacked the flare-like glow those in GTA IV have. Mafia II has a big advantage in being designed for the PC (or at least in a way that takes full advantage of today's superior PC hardware, unlike GTA).

GTA IV has added depth with character relationships and multiple branches in the storyline, but not much more than that from what I understand. I will reserve final judgment till I have had the chance to play it on the PC. But...

Bring on Mafia II!

Some things I don't understand. Why did they remove some features? Maybe they wanted to leave the for later. DLC anyone? Could it be there is still enough room for penises in R*s ass? Had they spent all that time it took to sell out GTA on making GTA better, it would be a 10/10 game. IMHO, GTA IV deserves something like 89/10. Not more. My hype is all gone and forgotten. I know I would be at least 30% more satisfied if I played it on PC, but it just doesn't have that feeling.

Soundtrack is OK (only OK), I haven't noticed any special station quality. This aspect of the game is bound to get only worse in time.

One more (bad) thing. GTA IV reminds me of Godfather. A LOT. The graphics and animations are much like in GF. The pickups and markers also. Why the hell didn't they make the pickup like a pickup? You would need to PICK I UP. MANUALLY. Weapons animations, anyone? Driving is weird, another friend of mine, who OWNS driving games (he's the best virtual driver I know) has a lot of trouble driving. Especially some cars. Lousy cars are just not drivable. They can't handle turns, have zero acceleration.

Camera in closed spaces really sucks. The controls are made for consoles and they suck. How the hell do they intend to make them for PC then?! Previous GTAs were very PCish games. This one is a little too much of a console game. The cover system is very funny. For example, when firing a pistol from behind a cover, you get ONLY one shot at the time. Meaning, you are behind cover, you aim and shoot (one bullet), then you get behind the cover again. Once again, you shoot (one bullet!) and so on. F*cking hilarious.

Don't think they're stupid or lying, they are - much like us - aware about R*'s tactics.

<<...stuff in mkey82's post...inside the spoiler area...>>

Making a game like GTA for console controls is a bit like making The Sims into a board game; with a board, dice, cards etc..."limited" is an understatement.

Didnt they make GTA 4 on the PC? Story lines, mapping etc..? Are they building up the tension, or just seeing some of the Bugs that turn up? so they can fix them...

They have to make it on a (or more...) PC, you can't develop a game on a console. 'cept for a PS3 with Linux installed. turn.gif

I think that the pc will be much better graphics and lighting

The Xbox actually looks a bit better.

I was thinking that the ps3 would be better since it's a one year younger console than the 360.

But yeah, the colors are better on the bobox.

If R* really works on the PC version, we could expect the 1st trailer's quality.

With all due respect, WTF have you been? Seriously, have you seen the opened stuff they gave on the original release PC of SA? Or the sample SCM code structure from VC? Did they ever openly support modding? I don't know, but before Coffeegate, they weren't exactly throwing everything into a R*-only format and saying "HAH NO MODDING FOR YOU!"

I'm actually not against democracy though. I'm against things I think are f*cking stupid. I think this is f*cking stupid. - Sweets

I'm not a modder, I just go by the general cursing I've seen at the proprietary formats they use.

Waiting for GTA:IV on PC.

Will not be getting a X360 just for this game, even if i wanted too i do not have the money so me getting this game right now is moot.

Anyhow on topic.

R* is doing the usual tension build up they have done for the past 7 years ever since GTA3.

If this is the first time you are crying for a PC port get used to it...

Its been going on for a while.
