The thing that make GTA greater then it is are mods on PC. It just cant get and better than that. Look at all those the mods. And people still make them. It wasn't R* that made GTA MP, independent modders made it. GTA is meant to be a PC game. I never liked console versions. At least "Mafia 2" developers are well aware of that fact.

And the reason why GTA 4 looked so great on trailers and screens is because it was probably running on development kit. All in-game screens were messed up. Now you know the reason confused.gif

And I still play GTA VC and SA. Its last gen but nothing can beat "Back to the future mod" for VC and all those weapon and car mods for SA

And the thing I liked about scripts in PC versions is that you could easily tweak them to make gunfights or car chases more exciting yourself, if you understand English and 2nd grade math.

If everyone thinks that R* will release GTA4 for PC, can anyone tell me why they didn't do the same for VCS and LCS? Any clear justification!

I think that R* thinks that having a PS3 or 360 is better than a high-end PC.

But for R*, I and thousands of great gamers of the world hope that you'll release a PC version. Please do so. Think of the gamers that have bought the high-end PCs and can't buy the PS3 or 360 anymore. Since I myself have a PC only and can't buy the game, I'll wait some more months for a PC-release.

Same reason they didn't port Manhunt 2 and Bully, too little profit compared to the effort.

1. They had an agreement that those games would be Sony exclusive (PSP and PS2)

or

2. The game engine of those games was created only for consoles.

They ported the first Manhunt, but I understand why they didnt port Manhunt 2. The game is more crap, and the media storm they faced. That Wii version is almost not playable because they cut down on the gore.

Yet again about the games that Rockstar didn't port or make on the PC.

Games Released On PC/Ported To PC by R* North :

*Menace (1988) (Amiga, ST and PC)

*Ballistix (1989) (ports to MSDOS, C64, TG16)

*Blood Money (1989) (Amiga, ST and C64)

*Lemmings (1990) (Amiga, CDTV, MS-DOS, ST, Spectrum, CD-I, Lynx)

*Oh No! More Lemmings (1991) (Amiga, ST, MS-DOS)

*Walker (1993) (Amiga)

*Hired Guns (1993) (Amiga, MS-DOS)

*Holiday Lemmings 1993 (1993) (MS-DOS)

*Lemmings 2: The Tribes (1993) (Amiga, MS-DOS, SNES)

*All New World of Lemmings (1994) (Amiga, MS-DOS, 3DO) 994 (1994) (MS-DOS)

*Grand Theft Auto (1997) (MS-DOS, PC, PSX, GBC)

* Grand Theft Auto: London, 1969 (1999) (PC, PSX) - Expansion Pack for GTA

* Grand Theft Auto: London, 1961 (1999) (PC) - Free Expansion Pack for GTA: London

* Wild Metal Country (1999) (PC, Dreamcast)

* Grand Theft Auto 2 (1999) (PC, PSX, Dreamcast, GBC)

* Grand Theft Auto III (2001) (PS2, Xbox, PC)

* Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002) (PS2, Xbox, PC)

* Manhunt (2003) (PS2, Xbox, PC)

* Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (2004) (PS2, Xbox, PC)

The Aimga and MS-DOS were the first actual computers that Rockstar supported.

Games Not released on the PC By R* North :

*Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories (2005) (PSP, PS2) (with Rockstar Leeds)

*Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories (2006) (PSP, PS2) (with Rockstar Leeds)

*Manhunt 2 (2007) (PS2, PSP, Wii) (with Rockstar London, Rockstar Leeds and Rockstar Toronto)

Practically all made by Rockstar Leeds, they never put it on the PC.

That just leaves us with 1 Title

Grand Theft Auto IV (2008) (PS3, Xbox 360)

No where does it say it was made by or with the help of Rockstar Leeds, just the original actual GTA title. So will it be released on the PC is the question? We need to give it time.

The first GTA games were ported to the PC, they were created on the PC, and were later ported to the fag console whores.

I played GTA IV on the 360 at my friends house today........and the hype about the game that I had is now gone.

Even though I would really love to play and complete the game, I didnt feel the same feeling I had with San Andreas. San Andreas was a great game, and Im not saying GTA IV is bad, but i expected more(even from a console version). I dont mean i expected more in the graphical part, which really did make a huge jump from SA, but more in the gameplay part.

Half the time I didnt see pedestrians, I felt like I was roaming in an abandoned area. I rarely saw the HUD. The life bar, armour bar, and money only showed up at certain times, even though I knew there was some button to make it show up, It felt really annoying everytime I wanted to take a look at how much money I gathered. There was also the driving......the driving wasnt right(in all cars), the car looked like it was gona flip over everytime I turn and was very distracting. When you turn while driving, its also hard to get it not to hit the wall. It is almost impossible to get away from the cops too, maybe the driving is a reason.

Like what have been said before, you also do not get shot very often, and it is just too easy to shoot them using auto aim. The cut-scenes are also long, even if you are into the story, it gets boring hearing them talk most of the time. Its not like a MGS cut-scene which keeps you entertained all the way through.

Even with these issues, it is still a good game, and I am still looking forward to the PC version.

This game does not deserve a 10.

This game does not deserve a 10.

Well that are your personal thoughts, I think the game deserves a 10.

I've played it too on my friend's X360 and it was a really great time. I liked the new driving system because cars' physics are far better than earlier GTA's, and I like simulations... rolleyes.gif I'd love to see a PC version, though.

Of course that are personal thoughts too... uhh

...it doesn't mean anything bad, it's simply showing that the AV cable has fallen out!

Yeah...no it's...ummmm....got a RROD as well as the AV cable has fallen out.

I don't know, I just drew-on some fake red lights on the promo photo of the XBox 3.50.

dinamit04,

Thanks for your objective thoughts. After reading the reviews and hearing what actual players had to say, I can't help but think the official reviews were a little bit off.

When you read any of the previews leading up to the release you could tell they were fawning over R*. Perhaps they bought a little too much into the hype. I think the way R* is so secretive about it and the way they only let certain reviewers get their hands on it only adds to my doubt.

This isn't a question as to whether is a very good game or not because it obviously is. But, does it deserve a perfect score (almost unanimously across the board)?

I've heard a lot of counterpoints from ACTUAL players. Several key features discussed in previews were absent in the final cut. Reviews made little of any hardware issues (35% of all players based on a poll in the forum...yeah, that's quite a bit), pop-in, and frame rates. Reviewers mentioned nothing that I could tell of features that got axed. Reviewers touted it as revolutionary. Many say that's not the case and that it is more evolutionary. Many speak about the storyline being to similar to previous GTAs or that it's lacking a certain something. I don't think you can just dismiss all this or downplay it. It has value too.

Okay so this may be a shot in the dark (before I go on, I too would like to see GTAIV come out on PC)....

Is it at all possible that this entire not releasing it on PC at the same time is simply a retarded marketing ploy by R*....

What I mean is, maybe they want to see how people such as those with consoles react to the initial release, i.e. complain about common problems, bugs, crap story lines etc....

Which, in turn R* could then work towards fixing and improving for the much expected PC version? I think somebody pointed out earlier that the console users were 'guinea-pigs', so I guess I'm just emphasising that possibility.

Any takers to this idea? I'm not saying its for sure...but there must be a slight chance, no? confused.gif

There is nothing new about R*'s tactics here. It's the same thing they've done since III.

Whether they are using consoles as a beta test, I don't know. For PC gamers, it's humorous to think about it that way. Sounds good to me! I wish I really knew, but we don't. This is one of those BEHIND-THE-SCENES things I don't think we'll ever know. So, no answers, as usual.

In a way this might be good for us PC gamers. This "pause" will allow us to observe the game in depth and ultimately get the real (valid) opinion from the consumers themselves.

People anticipated this game as if it were some newly discovered cure for cancer. But in actual fact, as said earlier, 35% of them have a problem with the game in some shape or form. And if it isn't a technical issue its something that's "missing".

I was playing SA and VC on the PS2 about an hour ago, right? And what I gathered from playing was this:

- The graphics were acceptable, they were fun to look at and somehow we didn't bitch about "deformed lobster claws" characters in the game had.

- Pop up and "jagged-edges", were ALWAYS an issue, but somehow we all didn't lose sleep at night. CJ and Tommy ran into walls with a 1/3 of their bodies "sinking" into the wall. So what? I was driving on the 1st island in VC, and an ambulance spawns INTO a palm, funny as f*ck, and it was a so called "technical" issue, I didn't cry over it.

- "Blurry" screen, f*ck that... I played ALL my GTA games on my parents 18-year old 51-inch SONY tv, and not once had an issue.

- Obvious stuff like ladders were never made to be used. Just made for show.

And somehow, everyone loved the games, the played and loved them. What's the problem here? Oh woops, you thought your console could cure AIDS and play GTA IV without a hitch? You also thought that RockStar are demigods that will ultimately deliver the game of games. I'm sorry to burst your bubble and let you hurtle to reality, but it's a game at the end of the day, is a game made my people, and people aren't perfect.

So in essence my point is, quit bitching, your consoles are fine. If you're game doesn't work, replace it.

Or like us... Get the modifiable PC version, which will strive to solve most of those problems mentioned above. biggrin.gif

So, I hope this topic is actually starting to come to some conclusions.

Is the console noobs gone? Good!

Now I can state my opinion on this matter.

I played a bit of the game, driving may suck to the majority of the players because it takes a lot of getting used to. The shooting is well done in my opinion, don't really care for the auto aim feature though. Honestly, I find that R* has matured up the game a bit, no more super cheat codes where you can get a jetpack and a military jumbo jet and tank and destroy the world. It focuses more on key elements of the game, not unrealism. That is what makes this game so great from the others, R* are trying something else, so I would consider it like a beta.

As for a PC version, it is absolutely necessary that it is ported over. R* has done it for almost every series in the whole compilation. I believe they are still trying to cover up any vulnerabilities of a possible "Hot Coffee Mod" or anything like that. Piracy can easily stop sells of products, making the supply high and the demand lower. They are probably going to resolve that as well sort of like how Ubisoft does it with the whole SecuRom protection. I really wouldn't mind seeing them take it to the next level. If they can secure it then hell, that is great news. They might even remove mod making abilities and options, I would still get the game.

I would really like to see this game still have the ability to mod. I am sure that they can easily put in more slots for players on the servers. And for the people that are saying that computers can't handle it. They are absolutely wrong to the mightiest extent. Just because they have a 500$ computer from Wally World doesn't mean the rest of us do. I expect to see some sign in the next 1-2 months with 5 being at the most. If it doesn't come 5 months from now I give up all hope. Once announced maybe another 5-8 months for it to be released. But it has to come out on the PC. I say we just cast our votes, and let the countdown begin.

We know...

Exclusive contracts with sony (and now m$ too).

Higher console sales over the PC.

Consoles are not the guinea pigs, the whole game is built around/for consoles. Thats why it took them so long to release a GTA game with up to date graphics, they had to wait for sony to catch up...

Thats why the PC version is always ported, and not the other way around.

So lets just hope they do a good port, one worth waiting for atleast...

The answer to both piracy and hot coffee: Steam.

Obviously the pirates will crack it sooner or later, they always do, but they'll avoid this problem they had with IV being leaked. No pre-release leaks. As long as they release it on Steam first and then retail, that is..

Modding would require unpacking the Steam files and making them playable outside of Steam, which would probably require poking around on unsavory sites. If any calamities came up, like Hot Coffee, Rockstar could blame 'the software pirates' which sounds much more evil to the mainstream media than 'the modders'.

Steam? barf8bd.gif . I rather have my hardcopy with a nice booklet and map.

Maybe they cant prevent piracy but they can stop illegal copies from playing online and if they bump MP to atleast 32 players people will want to go online.

Problem is MP support vs cheats and the likes, doubt that will be on the agenda...

ACK, no.

I'm all about downloadable software, but I plan to buy a physical copy of the game (should it happen); why should I have to wait?

And hasn't someone from here gotten mods on SA Steam to work? Unless you're saying OUR (GTAF) site is unsavory too. Which, depending on the day, could very well be. biggrin.gif

I'm actually not against democracy though. I'm against things I think are f*cking stupid. I think this is f*cking stupid. - Sweets

As with all Steam games (except some small indy games) you can buy them all retail if you want, but with steam you don't have to put in the disc everytime you want to play.

Cheat is a big issue, but not the issue of releasing GTA for PC or not.

If a MP system is on the PC version, I hope they go for a dedicated server system not the consolified system that EA tend to use even on PC games.

Force everyone to register their copy with Steam to play online, retail copy or not. Pirates will have to run their own pirate servers like with pirated WoW.

Also, am I the only one who thinks the hardcopy, the disc, the map and manual are just dust collecting items? Does everyone have the magic ever expandable attic where they throw all the stuff that's kinda cool but really useless? orly.gif

Surely they would, even Assassin's Creed had that if I interpreted the preannouncement correctly (can't say I know for sure, they didn't release it in Europe).

Pirates already have cracked Steam games, I won't say how, because I do not want to get banned, but it is crackable, and Steam is moddable, They'd probably make something ala Garry's mod for it too, and not to mention, Almost every Steam game afaik has almost said "COME AND MOD NOW BEFORE WE SLIT YOUR THROATS!" to get us to mod it, although Rockstar need to get their knickers out of the knot they are currently n, as although PC does have a few pirates, Proves that Consoles have pirating too, since about 30k people downloaded the leaked version afaik.

Extra stuff can be fun to have, but I can do without them. DVD boxes today are nothing compared to the oversized boxed they used in the 90's with bible like manuals or a lot of small ones in 20 different languages or something. Actually I do have original Commodore 64 games that came in DVD size boxed(floppy disc) and very similar to todays DVD boxes.

We all know that steam games is being pirated, but we are talking about minimalizing the risk of leaks before the actual release and that can steam do. We also know that steam allow you to mod as Valve is very open to modding and even provide tools for it. But they can also put ekstra limits to modding if thats what the developers wants, it won't prevent it but make it more difficult to the avarage joe. Steam can also provide a quick solution to a hot coffee like scandal though I don't see why R* will make that mistake again.

Also, am I the only one who thinks the hardcopy, the disc, the map and manual are just dust collecting items? Does everyone have the magic ever expandable attic where they throw all the stuff that's kinda cool but really useless? orly.gif

Speaking of manuals, does anyone know what the manual is like in IV? I mean, is it just some sh*tty little paperback thing or is it hardcover like SA? I <3 my SA hardcover manual because it made the price of the game more worth it to me. But it's still a dust collector, I must admit.
