GTA IV for PC

Is it possible to port the 360 or PS3 vision which is all over torrent sites to the PC... Using an emulator or something? If not how hard would it be to do that? I'm talking about the community here not R*

Apparently, 360/ps3 emulators aren't really possible on PC's.

If you mean doing the physical port from console to PC instead of waiting for rockstar to do it.. I suppose its technically possible but I imagine it would be very difficult and time consuming to actually analyze and manipulate the code involved in performing a stable port. Plus going off of the torrent is illegal so forum support would be difficult to organize. I don't know if it would be illegal to attempt should someone own a copy of the 360/ps3 version however, confused.gif

Its a cool thought but I highly doubt anyone would be able to pull it off besides R* themselves.

Your pretty much exactly right Ron.

R* will milk GTA4 as much as they can for consoles then they will do the industry old trick and port it to PC making more sales then if they released the game Multi platform (PC,PS3 and 360)

Same thing is happening for a lot of "console exclusive games" right now.

Just a fad to make more money and sidestep major issues such as optimization and piracy.

Some of the babble here is like listening to two 5 year olds argue whether Lucky Charms are better than Cocoa Puffs.... Seriously guys, get a grip. Besides, there has been no mention from Rockstar a PC version will become available, how can you argue for something that does not exist yet? Let alone believe that Vista would be required. Maybe they will decide to go with MAC or Linux based!

I recieved word direct from Rockstar there is no tentative plan for a GTA IV PC title, at least not yet. That is the official word! So the "rumor" cannot be true. Likely they are attempting to boost sales and promise something they cannot promise, maybe they are just trying to rip people off too. It has happened before.

If nobody knows this, the reason you will get a game with a cover that says "Games for Windows" is because this is a "digital reproduction" of the title. The CD or DVD is burned in-house of where you bought it, I believe Best Buy does this for many games because they can supply their own DVD's, cases and artwork methods to save on shipping charges. A typical game case is about 90% air, so a store is shipping "air" mostly but being charged by the cubic foot. Effectively this adds a "Green incentive" by not "adding oil" to a product through means of transportation.

I remain hopeful a GTA IV PC version will be released. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Why the hell would Rockstar tell YOU that they arent plan to release a PC version? You cant just say things like these without any source..

I hate to repeat myself but:

GTA Vice City = was announced for PC 1 month after the PS2 release

GTA San Andreas = was announced for PC 1 month after the PS2 release

GTA IV = probably do the same

This proves that there is NOTHING different this time. Rockstar have ALWAYS keept the latest GTA games a secret until AFTER the Playstation have sold enough copies! This has almost become a tradition with them.

There are a LOT of rumors about the PC version. The fact that Rockstar DONT want to confirm they are true are because they want to keep shut until they want to tell us them self.

There isn`t even a PS2 or Dreamcast emulator that runs very well these days. I think there will be a emulator, but it`ll take many, many years and a super-pc to run. (15-20 years to come)

Thx for help! By the way, I'm a well educated PC gamer... I never would do Spam  smile.gif

But of course biggrin.gif. I merely implied that if the link would turn up too often, Google could interpret it as spam. Also, people might find it annoying.

"We found that a PC which costs the same as a console does, can actually run the game at a much higher level of detail." i got this from http://www.gta4pc.co.nr  so console kiddyes now can go, sit in the dark corner and cry fur buying a console which is as most people say world wide beta testing machine.    CONSOLE GTA IV<PC GTA IV

You are aware that that article is a joke, right? Don't spread misinformation, please colgate.gif.

Guys, programming is tough, but reverse engineering is tough as hell. Only too look at disassembled code is on the margin with painful. And I'm talking about win32 executables, where all the proper tools exist. You can grab any exe (any you have a permission to disassemble, that is) and open it up in a debugger or disassembler. You get a lot of opcodes which disassembler translates for you into commands for the CPU.

Now the funs starts. You need to understand what those opcodes do and then start to put two and tow together, join opcodes in functions, functions in algorithms and finally you (could) get the program. Some sad people use this method to rip code from other people software so it's doable. BUT (and this a one big ass but) to reverse engineer the x360 code to x86 code? I'm scared only to think about it, as there are no tools, there isn't any disassembler so people would have to develop one first. This means reverse engineering the x360 instruction set and converting in-order-execution to out-of-order-execution. I believe this to be a difficult task indeed. So difficult that if someone accomplished it, that group of people would deserve a Nobel prize, IMHO. Even if there isn't a reverse engineering category.

And yes, it WOULD be illegal. Even if you owned a x360 copy. Modification of executable files is generally illegal.

BudlozerX, wtf, don't triple post. Use the edit button.

Lol, the funny part is that many claims to have heard from Rockstar that they dont plan to release it for PC, but NO ONE can give a SOURCE for that information.

"We're currently awaiting word back from an inevitably busy Rockstar."

Maybe we`ll get some answers now! If we havent heard anything within next week, I can try to e-mail this guy who wrote that. If Rockstar wont tell if its true or not, I bet its because they are developing a PC version secretly.

i hope they do release it on the pc because it will enable us to mod the hell out of it and even up the amount of players that can play online due to the far superiro lag free dedicated servers that are on pc gaming.

ever heard of gta samp? now imagine 200 people in gta4. that would be amazing

We will wait for PC because we like to right click aim!

Also, we like alt tabbing to internet help guides.

Also we like patches for bugs!

Also, we like to sit in our own comfortable chair with headphones (much louder music and effects in shared house at 4am thanks!) instead of having to wait in line for the television!

Also, we like to use latest upgrades instead of whatever fixed upgrades consoles have!

Finally, we don't pay for two or three game machines when we can pay for one that is the biggest and best.

Edit: Also, we do not want the censored Australian console edition, with some absurd region coding on it.

Because Rockstar know the big money is in consoles!

Because of too big piracy on teh PC, they first need to get the money from consoles, then they will port the game and feed it to the bloodsucking pirates to crash the torrent tracking servers.

Welcome on board. To answer your question: people at R* and T2 are sellouts. They don't like us (PC gamers) anymore but they do like our MONEY. That is what gives us hope. They NEED to sell it on PC to make some revenue as development of GTA IV was expensive. As they can port it to PC for the price of few logos (Intel/Nvidia) it will be probably be here. But not for at least 6 moths. Why? Well, R* and T2 want their best friends to sell as many consoles as possible BEFORE releasing it on PC. Even Dan Hoser said that he sees how people are willing to spend 500$ to play GTA IV. That 500$ would be a console+GTA.

Dude, the main purpose of GTA IV was to make money, not to make the world happy. They have always given us the next-gen GTA series, and they will this time to.

I didnt say it wouldnt come. But they want to make money before making everyone happy, so the PC version comes later.

icon14.gif FROM the wikipedia i learned that the total units of playstation3 sold as of april 21 2008 is 13 million,

the xbox 360 sold as of april 25 2008 is 19 million,

so the population of consoles doesn't exceed 32 million in the world.

i believe there are more than 200 million pc in the world and even after all the piracy and torrents. even the small portion of it could outnumber the console population...

experts !!!please explain me how consoles can give good profit than pc'

Ofcourse, thats why i QFT'd.

But unfortunetly a port is a port so they dont make any major changes, improvements or aditions.

We know this game is pushing past-gen consoles but on the PC? We could have much more (like more interiors and stuff) other than a slight visual upgrade.

I think R* could make a huge hit on the PC with IV if they compensated the extra waiting with some more goodies and definetly worked the MP part of the game more smile.gif .

Because only a fraction of those PC's are used for serious gaming.

Some reasons for lower pc game sales:

•Piracy.

•People that prefer to play on consoles.

•People whose PC's cant handle new games.

•People who cant troubleshoot/handle their PC's.

•Sony and m$ barf8bd.gif .
