GTA IV for PC

As I said earlier, GTA4 was made for the PC first, then ported to X360 (easy) and PS3 (not so easy).

The reason is console games simply sell better, and this way they force early adapter's to go for a console version, thus paying more, and not downloading (unless you own a X360).

Nooo... It was MADE on a PC, FOR the Consoles, which is an easy job as you have only 1 Video Card, 1 Sound Card, 1 Processor, 1 HDD, 1 set of everything else that you'll get inside. The problem you'll find about having a game for the PC is that you can have 20+ Video Cards, 20+Sound Cards, 20+Motherboards, 20+ HDD. 20+ Processors etc, so when you try and work out all the configurations that are available on the PC, then you are talking about effectively producing a game that can run on 100+ different configurations or 100+ Consoles.

But as I've said before countless times, there's no point in saying either way as it's a given that it will come out on the PC, we've just got to wait till the Lemmings (... see what I did thar) have bought up all the Console versions and Rockstar, Sony and Microsoft have made their little of money before Microsoft and Rockstar make a little bit extra by releasing the PC version in about 9 months... basically the PS3 ad XBox have just had it laldy and will give birth to a PC version in 9 months.

Except it's doesn't seem to be that easy anymore!

I amazed at the number of the posts where PS3 / xbox owners are having problems with GTA:IV (and strangely pleased as well but that's schadenfreude for you devil.gif ). I remember a few people having problems with their PS2 with SA as their dvd drives were knackered but nothing compared to what seems to be happening with IV. I can see a few reasons for this like RROD causing xbox problems, component makers using different parts (look the same, work the same but are different), console OS not being upto date, chipped consoles as well I guess.

So like my theory earlier, they are probably adding in more availabilities into the PC version, strictly because the PC can handle way more than most consoles. So that means they could also be adding stuff like more players in online play, more gamemodes, or even a mod/map tool. That or they want more releases via console before all of the pirates come after the game.

That implies that Rockstar actually give a sh*t about PC gamers, and clearly the do not.

But some things people aren't getting is that this game was made by Rockstar North (DMA Design Previously). Who developed the original GTA titles and many other games. Practically all that were immediately made on the PC/DOS if not ported. There are only about 1-5 games that were put on the console only. Let's face it people, their last release on the PC was GTA San Andreas, yes controversies were caused with the whole Hot Coffee mod. But after that Rockstar Leeds started making the next GTA titles and all of the other titles. None of which were released on the PC, but only the PSP and PS2. Now GTA IV has come out, being released by Rockstar Games and Rockstar North, the same ones who created all other previous games which were all practically released on the PC. This is the day that GTA IV is out, they sure as hell won't release it now. I say that we do give them the time instead of griping instantly.

Games Released On PC/Ported To PC by R* North :

*Menace (1988) (Amiga, ST and PC)

*Ballistix (1989) (ports to MSDOS, C64, TG16)

*Blood Money (1989) (Amiga, ST and C64)

*Lemmings (1990) (Amiga, CDTV, MS-DOS, ST, Spectrum, CD-I, Lynx)

*Oh No! More Lemmings (1991) (Amiga, ST, MS-DOS)

*Walker (1993) (Amiga)

*Hired Guns (1993) (Amiga, MS-DOS)

*Holiday Lemmings 1993 (1993) (MS-DOS)

*Lemmings 2: The Tribes (1993) (Amiga, MS-DOS, SNES)

*All New World of Lemmings (1994) (Amiga, MS-DOS, 3DO) 994 (1994) (MS-DOS)

*Grand Theft Auto (1997) (MS-DOS, PC, PSX, GBC)

* Grand Theft Auto: London, 1969 (1999) (PC, PSX) - Expansion Pack for GTA

* Grand Theft Auto: London, 1961 (1999) (PC) - Free Expansion Pack for GTA: London

* Wild Metal Country (1999) (PC, Dreamcast)

* Grand Theft Auto 2 (1999) (PC, PSX, Dreamcast, GBC)

* Grand Theft Auto III (2001) (PS2, Xbox, PC)

* Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002) (PS2, Xbox, PC)

* Manhunt (2003) (PS2, Xbox, PC)

* Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (2004) (PS2, Xbox, PC)

The Aimga and MS-DOS were the first actual computers that Rockstar supported.

Games Not released on the PC By R* North :

*Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories (2005) (PSP, PS2) (with Rockstar Leeds)

*Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories (2006) (PSP, PS2) (with Rockstar Leeds)

*Manhunt 2 (2007) (PS2, PSP, Wii) (with Rockstar London, Rockstar Leeds and Rockstar Toronto)

Practically all made by Rockstar Leeds, they never put it on the PC.

That just leaves us with 1 Title

Grand Theft Auto IV (2008) (PS3, Xbox 360)

No where does it say it was made by or with the help of Rockstar Leeds, just the original actual GTA title. So will it be released on the PC is the question? We need to give it time.

To not release GTA IV on PC now is how Rockstar do their marketing!

GTA Vice City = was announced for PC 1 month after the PS2 release

GTA San Andreas = was announced for PC 1 month after the PS2 release

GTA IV = probably do the same

Yep. I'd start worrying if the console bitches I mean R* doesn't announce it in a month or something. So all we got to do now is wait..

That and....

Rockstar LOVES $$$

GTA IV = free money (as almost all the work has been done)

NOT doing so would mean throwing millions of dollars out the window.

Put 2 and 2 together and you get 4. It's like clockwork. Can't figure how it would be any different this time around.

It's just gotta happen although Dan Houser did say in an interview that "It's all about the next gen consoles we may never release GTA4 on PC"

To be correct:

GTA SAN ANDREAS WAS RELEASED 25 OCTOBER 2004

GTA SAN ANDREAS PC VERSION ANOUNCED 16 DECEMBER 2004

= 52 DAYS WAIT DAYS FROM PS2 RELEASE

GTA VICE CITY WAS RELEASED 08 NOVEMBER 2002

GTA VICE CITY PC VERSION ANOUNCED 14 FEBUARY

= 98 DAYS WAIT FROM PS2 RELEASE

QFT.

Besides, they have been developing the game and its engine for like 4 years, I'm pretty sure that it won't be that hard for them now to port the game to PC in like 6 months. Not to mention, they'll satisfy millions of fans and they'll be respected and supported more.

Dont worry! It`s a real site, not whatifgaming.com bullsh*t site..

Seen this in several Gaming news sites now.

One thing I notice is that all the sites that have reported it says it is a german site, but .ch is the Internet country code top-level domain for Switzerland.

edit: to confirm that suspision http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CityDisc

Can someone from switzerland call them and ask them some questions about this?

Yeah those are the retail sites that are already preordering. The only thing is i don't trust them, first it's happened before they have preordered PC games that ended up never getting released. The Box art is fake, some have the pal logo, some have "Games for Windows" yet some have just the PC DVD logo. I would really like to see an online retailer i know do that before getting my hopes up. And BuldozerX post on how long Rockstar take to announce is so depressing.

Some how i think we may not get it till May next year at least the reason being Microsoft and Sony will still want to sell more consoles for Christmas and some people who have missed out to GTA could finally get it then. And they wouldn't want to take the light off the 360 DLC. And if they were planning on doing it this year it would be on the Take 2 Financial report. This is an important report to their stockholders and they wouldn't miss something as significant as the PC version which would bring in millions more revenue. They have already accounted the DLC so surely if the PC version was coming out this year it would be on there, Take2 can't hide that from it's shareholders they have a responsibility to tell them.

Some of the babble here is like listening to two 5 year olds argue whether Lucky Charms are better than Cocoa Puffs.... Seriously guys, get a grip. Besides, there has been no mention from Rockstar a PC version will become available, how can you argue for something that does not exist yet? Let alone believe that Vista would be required. Maybe they will decide to go with MAC or Linux based!

I recieved word direct from Rockstar there is no tentative plan for a GTA IV PC title, at least not yet. That is the official word! So the "rumor" cannot be true. Likely they are attempting to boost sales and promise something they cannot promise, maybe they are just trying to rip people off too. It has happened before.

If nobody knows this, the reason you will get a game with a cover that says "Games for Windows" is because this is a "digital reproduction" of the title. The CD or DVD is burned in-house of where you bought it, I believe Best Buy does this for many games because they can supply their own DVD's, cases and artwork methods to save on shipping charges. A typical game case is about 90% air, so a store is shipping "air" mostly but being charged by the cubic foot. Effectively this adds a "Green incentive" by not "adding oil" to a product through means of transportation.

I remain hopeful a GTA IV PC version will be released. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

TThey can't even if they deem it necessary to keep secret?.

They can, but after discussing this with my friend who is a lawyer he also believes it's no good enough reason to hide it from them. You see Take 2 need to keep their Shareholders happy and their shares high and Shareholders are not easy to please. They will want to know if a version of a game is coming out that would sell millions. All the other PC versions of GTA were seen on Take2 Financial report so i don't see why this time they would hide it especially since they are trying to fend off a takeover bid by EA.

ryanstrassburg, i'am struggling to understand your post are you trying to say that PC games that have the "Game for Windows" logo are done in the place you bought it? Because not even Bestbuy would make PC games simply because games are not simply burned onto disc like you do at home they are pressed manufactured, hence how the copy protection works you can't copy the security sectors of the disk with a DVD re-writer only the manufacturer could. And not to mention it's cheaper just to mass produces the game and send it out. Also games for Windows for Windows is not "digital reproduction" it's a set of rules set by Microsoft which games on the PC if applying for it must meet such as.

* An "Easy Install" option that installs the title on your PC in the fewest possible steps and mouse clicks

* Compatibility with the Windows Vista Games Explorer

* Installs and runs properly on x64 versions of Windows Vista and is compatible with 64-bit processors (though the game itself can be 32-bit)

* Supports normal and widescreen resolutions, such as 4:3 aspect ratio (800 x 600, 1024 x 768), 16:9 aspect ratio (1280 x 720), and 16:10 aspect ratio (1152 x 720, 1280 x 800)

* Launching from Media Center (Windows Vista Home Premium and Windows Vista Ultimate have Media Center)

German retail has sparked mass excitement (again) for PC owners hoping to get their piece of the GTA IV action pie this year.

The game is yet to even be announced for the platform, but German site City Disc has penned a PC launch in for November 30, has (self-made?) box art, and appears even to be taking pre-orders.

Similar rumours cropped up in January, when reports cited French retailers as the source for a supposed October date for GTA IV on PC.

As we pointed out before, it took GTA III and its sequels around six to eight months to make the leap to the mouse and keyboard crowd, so a late 2008 release for PC would be in keeping with tradition.

We're currently awaiting word back from an inevitably busy Rockstar.

Well the PC vs. console war is'nt only about what you like better then the other, there is clear evidence and facts that proves that PC are more powerfull than any console. This thread is'nt about what machine is the best, but unfortunatly some clueless console kiddie comes in here and tell us that PC can't handle it, and sure everybody want to go on and reply why he is so wrong. I do not believe the game will be Vista exclusive either, but as MS is in the the picture there is a danger for it will happen.

Nobody here said they believe this swiss site(thats why I want someone to contact them and ask questions), infact there have been no news about GTA IV for PC that we(at least I) really believed positive or negative news, but we do want the to push the issue and keep pressure on Rockstar to give a real answer.

Hey pimpin' I have to agree with you that since nothing has been stated with regards to the PC version on the financial reports, the game would probably not surface until next (fiscal, not calendar) year. Keep in mind that the financial reports are for the fiscal year ending October 31, 2008. Thus, it is fair game to release the PC version starting November 1, 2008 onwards.

Since GTASA for PC was revealed trough the third quarter fiscal report in 2004 I believe we get an answer within the next quarter fiscal report in the end of june, if no answer by then I will give up GTAIV, and hope future titles will get back on track.

Well My hopes are on EA Buying Rockstar And all of take two

And then handling the product right by giving us a pc version.

I am not buying a console to pay $60 for the game

When I have a monster computer and a spare computer designated for a game server,

I would gladly buy the disc twice just to run as a server and let people connect.

and then pay again for my son to have the game.

There's always similar games out there, that do accommodate me.

Thats what i was hoping with every GTA after no.3

Dident happen !

Gonna sell some things and go get a cheap X360 and give up.

Might get Halo 3 after too.

Besides my PC is a little over the hill, although it runs Crysis smooth at Med

I estimate 3 months to the announcement of GTA IV for the PC (right around the time console sales level out and begin to drop off). Then a release 3-4 months after that, which puts us at the end of the year, just about in time for the holidays.

I too used to think there might be a chance the game would be Vista only. But given Vista's poor sales performance, no developer is going to deliberately handicap themselves like that right now. There have been, to my knowledge, exactly TWO games released that are Vista only (or "require" DX10, which is synonymous), one was published by MS and was quickly hacked to run just fine on DX9 (which just goes to show that MS was deliberately trying to shove Vista down the throats of consumers whether they wanted it or not), and the other (Shadowrun) sold so badly it didn't even register on the charts. Since then, there have been no more releases that were Vista only, and I don't see them coming any time soon.

So I have no fears of a Vista only release at this piont. It will come out for XP, just like every other game out there.

Is it possible to port the 360 or PS3 vision which is all over torrent sites to the PC... Using an emulator or something? If not how hard would it be to do that? I'm talking about the community here not R*
