GTA IV for PC

You know, the more complains we see about the graphics, controls or bugs of IV, the better it is for the PC gamers. I mean, the PC version will obviously be updated and will have all those bugs fixed and I can't wait too see the look on the faces of all those who say that IV would suck on the PC.

Hehe, I've always thought of the console releases as bug testing for the PC version.

But, unless the bug is really affecting gameplay and not just little glitches, I doubt they'd be fixed for PC.

They have a LEGAL obligation to do what is best for their shareholders, what will make them the most money.  Amazingly, getting paid by Sony & Microsoft to have their game come out on their machines first is good business sense.  Get over it.  Money talks.

Yes, money does talk. R* should absolutely be able reap the rewards of all their ingenuity. This is what America is about. What I question is the rationale behind their decisions. It's my opinion that it does more harm than good to alienate the loyal PC fanbase and has LONG-TERM ramifications.

It's the PC gamers with their mods who help keep the game alive with free marketing (the best kind too, word-of-mouth). It helps get gamers excited when they see what can be done to take the game to a higher level long after release. On top of this, the PC versions have always had the best reviews and had the sales figures to back it up. Why in the world would you want to thumb your nose at this crowd? How is THIS good business sense?

Don't think R* takes an adversarial position towards PC gamers? Think again. What about the Hot Coffee fiasco where R* attempted to throw the PC gaming community under the bus. In all of R*'s wisdom, they claimed a modder CREATED this. That obviously wasn't true, was it? This is a direct reflection of who R* is.

It's PC gamers that support graphics card manufacturers like NVIDIA and ATI. How can consoles get big improvements in the graphics department if it weren't for these two companies? It's PC gamers how buy those "really expensive" graphics cards that help push the envelope and drive down the prices of the hardware they sell to MS and Sony to put into the plastic boxes called the PS3 and Xbox 360.

It DOES NOT behoove R* to take the ACTIONS they have. Their selling out to the consoles, disdain for PC gamers, and silence regarding PC gaming in general only reinforces my strong beliefs.

Seeing R* release this game for PC 6-8 months down the road will NOT have me putting R* back on a pedestal. It will take time to regain the confidence of PC gamers, but it's certainly a step in the right direction.

By now, don't you think R* has the leverage to say to Sony and MS, "Yes, we will release GTA IV: xxx for the consoles. But, we will also release the PC version simultaneously. We want to use the PC as a showcase piece to reveal to everybody what R* is capable of doing with Grand Theft Auto." THIS will give everyone the opportunity to choose the platform they want to play game on, from day 0. Makes sense, doesn't it? THIS will drive sales of both console version and the PC version like never before. What we have now is b.s. Why must Sony and MS dictate the terms? R* has the upper hand here. No more should R* be beholden to these conglomerates.

That's what I think about it too. First, they release the console versions as a HUUUGE world-wide beta test. People spot all the bugs and things that need changing. Rockstart writes all that down, changes/fixes all those things in the PC version and release the PC version, several times better than the console version.

Made me smile reading some of the problems console players are having. Particularly considering that the perceived wisdom is that consoles are easier to develop for because if it works on one it'll work on all. Clearly this ain't the case so there must be variation in the components used even though outwardly they look and behave identically.

"We found that a PC which costs the same as a console does, can actually run the game at a much higher level of detail." i got this from http://www.gta4pc.co.nr so console kiddyes now can go, sit in the dark corner and cry fur buying a console which is as most people say world wide beta testing machine. friends, i am new to this forum, i am also the one among you all, who is waiting with eyes open weather there will be a pc version of the gta4!

my simple question is this....

many media giants like the IGN, kotaku, 1up all had a long long interview with rockstar around months of march and april 2008.

they asked all sort of questions from graphics to gameplay, from charecter design to story telling, from a to z,

but my question is that why cant they ask a simple question of a release on the pc, why are they hesitated to ask that,,

now if rockstar hesitated to comment on that then it makes a conformation that gta4 is gonna be released for our pc.

because i read a long ago when they asked about release of gta4 on wii ,these rockstar guys pissed them off saying words like

"wii has a lot of other great games to play".

friends,

i think this discussion may have been done a long before by people of this forum, but please comment on my question!!!!!

A lot of people have asked the same question you are asking. Nobody but those who did the interviews know. Its quite possible they did ask but were told by Rockstar to keep it off the record or possibly said no-comment and edited the entire line from their articles.

Isn't it ironic that console gamers come on here to tell us how great GTA is on their system when you see the same complain there are so many quirks/irritations with the game?

Despite the little quirks, perfect score reviews were bound to happen. I'm not saying it's not worthy of a 10, but if there are issues (slight) in certain areas of the game, then it's not perfect, right? They're practically kissing R*'s feet. It's almost like they collectively got together and said, "We HAVE to give this game a 10."

When I see the animations and detailing, I see lots of areas from improvement. If the game comes to the PC, I expect it will look very good. But, I doubt I will mistake it for Crysis or any other great PC game. I expect it to look like a console port and expect little in the way of enhancements. Surprise me R*!

You know, the real surprise would be if they did not release it for PC.

And yes it is about the damn sales, R* wants money, what`s better ? sell a game for a OS that has 100 users or for one that has 1000 users ?

It`s all about the bejamins ...

i dont think so. if they were in it for just the money, theyd make gta a half assed or at most a half decent series. but no, every couple years, they better themselves, always giving us more than we want. they care about US, the customer. but they may also just be doing that so that well keep buying their games, so i dunno. monocle.gif

you don't seem to get the fact that it can be released on DX9.? and still look better than console's . Why the hell would they have to release it on vista to keep up there standards? , that makes no sense . Of course it will be available on XP .

I agree rockstar care's about customers , thats exactly why it will be on XP .

unless microsoft slip rockstar a huge cheque to make it vista only biggrin.gif

When they give it a 10/10 score, it isn't "perfect". As you may have seen, IGN gave it a 10/10 saying it was "masterful" but not perfect.

But yeah, if it does come out for PC it'll be some lazy port unfortunately.

My dream would be them going for the same path as Valve are. Providing basically everything to the PC users (support to the modding scene, decent monthly updates/patches etc.)

Imagine if they had such active developers constantly improving the game... Now that would be something.

Aye, there'll be sh*tload of work on PC to get IV a decent look. Replace all the 256*256 pixel textures with better ones. I think GTAIV Retextured is a mod that we'll need.

Well, they're on the right path by joining Steam! Alas, monthly updates/bug fixes are definitely not happening, but one can dream... biggrin.gif

Yeah that is true, but... They haven't actually joined Steam. Just trying to gather some money by using their service.

Well, I hope they use Steam for the multiplayer aspect of IV. Would really cut down on any rampant cheaters and pirates.

I'm not surprised that GTA:IV received such stupidly high scores, nowadays websites/mags need advertisers money and early access to games/interviews that they were bound to give it high marks.

Only last year a well respected game reviewer was given the boot from a well known website for not giving a good enough review.

This whole world is filled to the brim with sell-out assholes.

Forget about reviews, I just want to enjoy and mod a video game. Its a nice distraction, a simple pleasure really, a stupid f*cking break from day to day sh*t. I'm starting to wonder how easy Mafia2 will be to mod dozingoff.gif

It's funny to see that Norway actually leads that stats in all fields

http://www.google.com/trends?q=gta+iv&ctab...date=mtd&sort=0

and when I changed IV to 4 Norway is not in it at all, but the lead on gta 4 PC searches increses

http://www.google.com/trends?q=gta+4+xbox+...date=mtd&sort=2

http://www.google.com/trends?q=gta+iv+pc%2...date=mtd&sort=2

and then the searches last twelve months

WE SHOULD ALL BUY THE ORIGINAL GTAIV NO MATTER HOW THEY TREAT US RIGHT NOW,TO SHOW THEM THAT THIS GAME IS WORTH IT,AND WHEN THEY SEE HOW MUCH PROFITABLE PC VERSION IS,THEN THEY MAYBE CONSIDER TO RELEASE PC VERSION ON ALL PLATFORMS AT THE SAME TIME IN THE FUTURE!I admit that i downloaded many games, simply because i think that they dont worth that much, but some games like COD4 and GTA4 are worth not 60$ but much more.I think this will work, because R* wants money and we should show them that console fanboys are not their biggest fans!In other way if they don't release it on PC...i just can't imagine that...

The fact that it matches and surpasses PS3 and 360 searches without a confirmed release date is quite interesting
