A suprise release on steam could be possible tounge.gif

Would be amazing if they would work with Valve I reckon. Valve always does ace stuff for the PC.

Imagine an SDK for GTA IV... And a bigger multiplayer. wow.gif I can always dream...

That would be the only way I can see them gaining any respect from the PC gaming community...after all they've done.

If some random german site say they will release GTA IV on pc, then IT MUST BE TRUE!!!!! dozingoff.gif

Actually, if u knew anything about retail, they find out this info through retail channels, every game that was later announced for PC was first seen on retail sites, especially in Europe where PC gaming is booming. Mass Effect before being officially announced (When Bioware was saying no PC version), was seen on similar sites citing retail sources.

I actually have a feeling the port is already taking place. And I have a feeling we'll see something in October/November already.  icon14.gif

And I have a feeling your talking rubbish, its not coming out on PC, mark my words. You PC people have enough money to buy graphics cards and motherboards every other month buy a next-gen console already instead of on this thread whining about it. sarcasm.gif

Umm, you are so full of crap, the same console idiots were saying the same thing on the Mass Effect boards not to long ago. Rockstar have already released their other games on PC and now Steam, game sites have it up for pre-order for PC citing "Retail sources", and rockstar have not even gone out of their way to deny a PC version, saying just Stay Tuned. Console gamers in denail, PC gets most console games and its own exclusives and they are better on PC, deal with ir or buy a real gaming rig and ditch the toy.

Don't offended if I don't take your word for it, instead I would rather believe someone that works in the computer game industry. I dunno maybe someone like Kevin Unangst who is the head honcho of MW's Game For Windows program, he stated :-

There are There are 60 million DirectX 10-capable cards out on the market now. If you look at that compared to any of the console installed bases, that's a great number. If there were 60 million Wiis or 60 million 360s out there, no one would question it as a huge opportunity.

You can read the full interview from Kevin Unangst here http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=94196&page=1

To put that into perspective the 8600gt is probably comparable to the gpu's in these consoles, that card can be bought for £50. I have an 8800gts and an 8600gt, the 8800gts plays ALL games maxxed at 1680 x 1050. The 8600gt plays ALL game Maxxed at 1280 x 800. So as you can see your argument does not hold water as much as you would like it too.

Amazing how console fanboys never have any facts, the facts state there are millions of PC's on the market right now that are far more powerful then any console.

Why do you think it will run in R*? Why do you think R* will actually add something to the PC version of GTA4 to let it run in DX10?

Also what the console gamers dont get and always denigh when they hear is PC is always going to be one step ahead they come back with a crap answer LOL!

Hello, Im new here(well not exactly)....i just never posted here before and this topic took me a long time to catch up on where you people reached(the pages just grew more and more while I was reading)......anyways, i really hope GTAIV will come to the PC. I never started a GTA game on the PC. I had a PS1, and a PS2, when i bought them, i always got excited on them for a few weeks....but then I always ditched the console and left it to gather dust. I always went back to my old crap computer to play games even though my computer couldnt play them(even on the lowest settings) without lagging like crazy.....and still I always continued to play on the computer more than on my console despite the lagging.

I knew at that time that I could upgrade my computer to run games better, but never really understood how and got lost everytime I looked at how many types of graphics cards there were or what processor i need(i never even knew how to tell a graphics card from a motherboard lol), so i buy a console. But this year, I got into it, researched and did alot of reading to understand computers and hardware and what I exactly need to run the next-gen games. I made my first build. I am really happy with it too, its a good feeling, my own creation. And plus, now I dont need a 360 or a PS3.

I first bought call of duty 4, and played it on the highest settings, I was like WOW........It was a huge difference from playing on a 360 or a PS3(which I played at my friends' houses). Playing with the mouse was much easier and better, and the graphics are amazing, and I really got into the game, not like when i was playing on a console. Its an amazing experience. But still, i am thinking of buying a wii because it seems real fun to play multiplayer with friends. Since majority of my friends are console people, I think it would be fun to play it when they come over and hang out at my place, and play hardcore games on my pc.

About GTAIV, In my opinion, i think it will come to the PC, and i am basing this on 2 things said a million times before, which are 1) the past three GTA's have been released on the PC six to eight months after it was released on consoles, 2) As said before, RS are not telling anyone if they are going to release it or not which in my opinion means that they will be releasing it(late) because they could just say that they will not release it for the PC, and will drive people into buying a console a their copy of their GTAIV. It seems Microsoft has a really good grip on Rockstar......its like the Devil.

Congrats on your build and welcome. I know how you feel, it is very satisfying to put the time into price comparing and understanding components. It makes the finished product so much better especially when playing on that loved, but dated, older system for so long.

You're pretty much in the same boat as the rest of us.

As suggested earlier R* would redeem themselves nicely with a surprise Steam release but I'm dreaming sarcasm.gif

I'm pretty sure someone affiliated with Rockstar will be reading this and see how people are interested in a PC version. smile.gif

All major GTA releases have either started on the PC or found their way to the PC after the console release (the only exceptions being the PSP/PS2 Stories). This has proven to greatly extend the shelf lives of these games via community modding and other customizations that are not possible with the console versions.

So, will Rockstar continue the tried-and-true tradition of bringing GTA to the PC some months after the intial console release? Or will they overlook this market as a result of the hot coffee debacle or some other reason?

Passing on the PC version would effectively amputate a huge part of the fanbase and thereby greatly reduce the shelf life and continued sales of the game. I'd personally like to believe Rockstar are smart enough business people not to be throwing a valuable PC market away like that.

First poll

I have high hopes too, but not so much on this one. The console game market has never been bigger and, unfortunately for PC users, is overtaking the gaming scene. Mostly this is attributed to parents having "more control" with a game console than a PC (i.e. no parental control needed other than knowing what game is being played). More so the graphics engines and hardware are standardized on game consoles as opposed to PC's, which creates many more complications for game development and does not provide fluid usage across processors, graphics boards and other configurations.

With that said, I sent a mouthoff to Rockstar expressing my discontent with not even mentioning the possibility of a PC version, which is bad news as in the past they would state a PC version would become available, but this one there is no mention that I could find. I warned them though, make a PC version or else....

As of now it looks as though XBOX360 and PS3 are the winners of this title. I certainly hope this is not just a marketing scams for non-XBOX and non-PS3 users to go out and buy one so they can play their favorite game series, not gonna happen for me since my PC outperforms any game console I have ever used.

I own all GTA titles (yea, back to the original GTA and GTA2 with the overhead (top) view, GTA3, Vice City, San Andreas and Liberty City). Not being able to add GTA4 would be a huge disappointment to me since I have followed this game title series from the start, have long-anticipated the GTA-IV release and have enjoyed each evolving version immensely. Not to mention the thousands of hours I have invested in playing these titles. I practically feel like I live in Vice City and Liberty City at this point, like a home away from home where you get to blow up your neighbors smile.gif

Let them know at the least you desire a PC version, to ensure they are well aware of the desire for a PC version!!! Strength in numbers my friends, push them to do our bidding.

You know, actually PC gaming isn't that screwed smile.gif Steam has over 15 million users registered, and I can't speak for anyone else but I have bought ten games using Steam the past two years. And although the console scene as a whole seem alot larger than the PC, remember that it's not consoles vs PC. It's PS3 vs Xbox360 cs Wii vs PC and so on... The PS2, which was Sony's last success, sold 120 million units. The PS3 has so far sold around 10-12 % of that amount, it will increase over the years but seriously; the competition with the xbox360 and wii is hard, and selling units at a loss per unit is screwing them over. I imagine digital distribution WITHOUT region restrictions (listen ubisoft) is the way to go. Buy the game, download it while you get a cup of hot coffee, sex or both, and enjoy your game. Steam for the win!

Often so these comments make more sense than the long silly rants we see around here. We have to snap out of it and remember that we had the EXACT same situation with SA.

The PC is currently flying, i just saw this build on a catalog:

Core Q9450

4 gig 800mhz ram

2x 500 gig sata II drives in raid-0

8600 GT 512MB

22" wide screen

Vista and AV included.

For only 999 € its a nice build, it wont take long before most people have far more capable PC's than their consoles since even the casual PC user has to upgrade sometime (many are upgrading for vista) and the "past-gen" consoles dont come close to this.

The exclusives is how sony (and now m$) milk their outdated gaming platforms, many xbox360 and PS3 units will be sold because of GTA IV while a PC version of IV would smoke all console versions.

Its coming out on the pc in september. i asked someone in game

What do you mean with "in game"? Did you play the pirated version of GTA IV online and asked them and expected them to be more informed than us, or do you mean the game developers?

Hey guys, I as of 80% of you want the game to come out on PC!

What system specs do you think are required to run GTAIV on HIGH settings do you think?

I am currently looking to build-up a new system prolly like 2 x GeForce 9800gx2 or something similar depending on whether or not the 9900 comes out.

I think he probably meant a person in "Game" it is a computer games shop in the UK, so about as reliable as the retail sites really lol.

Well so far my E6600 2.4ghz with 8600gt has played all console ports on full graphics at 1280 x 800 . So anything above that will totally slaughter the consoles. I have a quadcore and 8800gts that plays the same ports at 1680 x 1050 and it doesn't even break into a sweat doing it.

I have a 8800GTS 640mb/E4600 @ 2.4ghz/3GB of ram and yea I can run pretty much all of the console ports like Assassin's Creed at high 1440x900, COD4 at 1680x1050 all at high, and Crysis with a modified cfg which makes it look kinda better but still gives more fps at high. 9800GX2 IMHO is a failure and isn't worth getting, might as well wait for the new 9900 coming out in the summer if your gonna upgrade to a real high-end comp.

Yeah thanks for advice. I was hoping to build a new PC by the end of July at least, then I have summer break to play for about 2 months biggrin.gif

I been eyeing up Core 2 E8400 @ 3GHz some review sites what I have found say that this outperforms the Q6600 in gameplay terms, is this true?

Sorry for this but is it worth going from 667MHz RAM to say like 1066MHz RAM I been looking on some sites and they say that the latency is more important.

What RAM do you guys have? Thanks.

i registered just to post in this topic...

ive been a super GTA fan since GTA 1. i HATE consoles. and i LOVE PCs. the last console i had was a nintendo 64.

anyway... i trully think they will release this on PC.. theres just no reason not to. they have always done so in the past, even with the dammmmmm delays. plus, as it has been said previously, they never said anything about not releasing the pc version. also, i read on a couple of web site that according to a french web site, an october release was planned (im sure this is old news tho)... and though the web site didnt cite its sources, it doesnt sound all that impossible.

one more thing to remember.. we as pc gamers are so damn used to this.. its sad really.

so many games get released AFTER the console versions on the pc...

many of these games were supposed to be exclusive console titles too... but they made it/are making it to the pc...

(assassin's creed? mass effect?.. not to mention all other gta titles)...

anyway.. im very very very excited and i cant wait to play this damn game... i wont be playing this on consoles so i guess ill have to ignore all the dang hype until it gets released on the pc... heck i survived waiting for mass effect... i can survive this... ill just play mafia, gta SA and godfather 3 times over until i get GTA 4... wink.gif

PS:

my specs:

C2D 2.4ghz (not overclocked... though i could..)

4 gigs of 667 ram

overclocked geforce 8800 ultra

32 bit vista ultimate (my only regret.. stupid 32 bit OS)

i can run EVERY GAME (assassin's creed, the witcher.. all the new games) on 1440x900 EVERYTHING MAXED (full AA and full filtering) at a very stable 30 fps MINIMUN...

the only exceptions are oblivion (although i maxed out oblivion's settings on windows xp.. so i guess its vista's fault) which i run at 1200x800 maxed, without grass shadows, and crysis (lets face it, crysis is just crazy shiz) which i run at 1200x800, max settings, but low aa.
