It is posts from people like you that actually put me off from coming into this thread anymore.  I am just so damn sick of having to defend the PC from damn console kiddies.

That's the reason why I'm also tired to come in here and read all the posts in this thread. Funny, it was this topic ("GTA IV for PC - Will it happen?" and not "Come to the console fanboys' battlefield.") that made me register to this forum. Mercifully just a few days and these kiddies get feeded with GTA IV, so I hope they won't come back then...

 

I'm thankful that CharmingCharlie and others done such a good job and repeated a lot of stupid posts the same way I would have done, but couldn't because of a lack of language skills. Sometimes I couldn't resist, but now I found something which can stand here as reply to every upcoming stupid console fanboy comment... and her it is, taken from this article:

The wait is not the main issue for me (but by no means is it acceptable), it's dealing with console "players" who feel need to spoil it for us. That's in addition to their already childish behavior of baiting. If this is the case, I'll stay out of here until I can get my hands on the PC version, which I think is practically inevitable.

I would like to do the same but the problem is there hasn't even been a 100% confirmation (as we all know), so I pop in and out day to day looking for an update. Then I check up on new screenshots, videos, or reviews setting the pattern to be an easy mark for spoilers

 

The most redeeming thing R* could do is take their little month off in may, make a June announcement after sales have abated and perform a July release. But I'm not holding my breath. A christmas release would inspire hate mail

The PC GPU makers make a one off GPU for the consoles, thats based on their best at the time, eg. The 360 has a chip based off ATI's R600 (HD2900XT), but not as fast, due to the R600 still been in development at the time, and later this year, they're launching RV770 (HD4xx0) to replace the R670 (HD38x0), shows you how fast tech progresses.

Thats the other thing that pisses me off about PC, I'm a fanboy for PC, but, games that look good, but aren't optimized at all, I could probably run Crysis on high on my x1650Pro, but the optimizations they did sucked, There's RTS games that have more stuff showing, as in, larger textures, more polygons, etc, along with a LOT of AI being done in the CPU, problem is, Crytek didn't optimize Crysis, that's why the game can't run über fast on a SLI'd 8800GTX rig, or a CFx'd HD3870x2 Rig.

I read (without a source) that Microsoft payed a 50mil exclusivity contract for DLC on the 360 for a period of one year. If this is true, I imagine a PC release is probably bought off for the same amount of time if not longer.

 

If we're talking a year+ then f*ck that sh*t I'm too stubborn to get goated into buying a console. A delay to that magnitude would sour me completely to the franchise. Money grubbing pieces of sh*t

One more thing: in Take2 financial report, there were also some points that made me beginning to think more and more that it's coming out for PC. And i never will spend $800 on PS3 or $600 on x360 (as they cost that much in Estonia).

 

 

By the way, Midnight Club 2 is for PC (check Steam).

Great post Powerpuff, I was just wondering if you have the time could you post some of your insights into T2's financial reports and some of the pointers regarding a PC version. I haven't really examined the financial reports stuff because I have the attention span of a gnat. If you could give us some insights it might give us something to talk about other than the same topics that keep getting covered over and over again.

As we all know, Xbox episodic content is coming somewhere in August. PS3 episodic content was confirmed but i could not find any dates for that.

So i started do wonder, in this report what do they mean by additional episodic content for GTAIV? Fiscal 2009 starts November 1, 2008, so is it PS3 stuff (it means PS3 owners must wait at least 3 more months compared to xbox owners)? Or is it something to do with PC version? I mean in the first sentence they say clearly that ep content for Xbox, but in this second sentence they mention no sertain platform (maybe because they can not mention word PC?).

WTF, I wanted to report that guy myself. Ah, well, some other time .

 

May I suggest something? Let's bring in something new. Like fragging. Parallel with post count there should be a counter for how many people (aka. little illiterate children of the consoles) your reports got banned. That would be a fresh change and something to brag about . Just a thought really.

 

To go further off topic: "Build it and they will come". Remember that Kevin Costner movie where he builds the baseball court so all those dead players come out? Maybe we need to do the same for R*. Build them a shrine (or a gas chamber) so maybe they will start to release PC games again. Or maybe we need to start collecting money and buy R* ourselves. As I understand it, their price tag is somewhere near 50 million $. As SynTerro pointed it out, there should be at least 10 million people on Steam that could run GTAIV. Are there something like 10 million of people in the world that care about GTA on PC? I think there are more, a lot more. So, everybody forts out 5$ (I know I would) and we buy R*s attention. If we give them 50 million they are bound to make a decent port. Because they like money. Yes, they do.

Dude0, it's hard to get what is it you want to say and frankly I don't care. Your posts are practically random and brainless. I would like to express my condolences to your parents and wish you all the best. Even though, as a local proverb says, the luck stays with the stupid people (or stupid people are lucky; 'm not sure how to translate that).

 

Buster23, you post show that you are not brain dead like that poor sap Dude0, but from time to time your brain pull some ugly tricks on you, doesn't it?

 

As you said, console gaming is cheaper. Yes, it is. For those who don't use their brains. If it was cheaper then PC gaming, I would buy some console which can rung GTAIV and enjoy it when it gets released. As people have pointed it out, the only moment when you actually can "save" some money while purchasing a console is on and near it's release date. MS and Sony need to make the price competitive while sustaining substantial losses so it seems that console gaming is cheaper then PC gaming.

 

But then, you get that average Joe which is not stupid, knows some stuff about PCs and hardware in general and he tries to see what's in the package. On the very first day they're out, consoles use at least one year old hardware equivalent. Equivalent because the ware in consoles is not standard, hence it's production and development costs A LOT. Also, the hardware you get is NOT reliable. Especially the x360. These points can not be argued because they are facts.

 

Now, year and a half after the launch of PS3 and more the two years after the launch of x360, if you take 600$ you can go and buy a new PC which will outperform the both consoles (regarding gaming, I will not even mention all the other PC features; people speak of x360 live service like "we can download multimedia" (no sh*t). Outperform consoles and are RELIABLE. It will not break down three times in two years.

 

Buster23, you like to speak of upgrading. You can upgrade your PC every 4 or 5 years, just as you "upgrade" consoles. Not that many PC gamers buy the new wares all the time. My PC is old  6 years (I payed for it 1100$ WITH monitor and have upgraded the memory, CPU and GPU for 200$. Had I purchased the PS2 and PS3 during that period I would have spent something like 1100$ (in my country) and it's highly probable that the PS2 wouldn't last for more then a year since ALL people I know that owned a PS2 had it working correctly for a max of 18 months. A friend of mine during those 6 years bought 3 (TREE) consoles because the first two broke down (the third one got "upgraded" to PS3 so it didn't get it's chance to get busted). So, my friend spent something like 1200$ on his PS2 consoles and additional 800$ for the PS3. Without a TV and such.

 

Note that this discussion speaks of buying new PC, not upgrading. If I took my current PC and upgraded I would need to invest something like (mem+mbo+cpu+gpu) 600$ to get a machine that kicks this gen consoles but. Basically, if you have good base components, it's "cheap" to upgrade. Only GPU and CPU.

 

Ah, games. Let's talk about games and their prices. In my country the price difference is 40$. Console titles go for a typical 100$, while the most expensive PC game (currently Crysis) costs 70$. Normally, new games you can get for 60$. In more developed counties the price difference is 10$. If you purchase 10 games per year, you get something like a 500$ during the expiry  period of a console (5 years). Well, 500$ will ofer you a nice upgrade for your PC during those 5 years. I beleive your argument fails.

 

You made a nice point for renting games for 8$. That's a nice deal, but most people purchase games becasue they want to own it for more then a couple of days. How many days does that 8$ provide for? Also, let me remind you that PC games can be LEGALLY downloaded for a price between 15 and 30$. It makes that 60$ per game figure even more ridiculous, doesn't it?

 

 

Don't forget that a PC port is likely to happen 6 months to 1 year from now.

It will most probably happen. And the game will sell at least 2 million copies.

I got the rrod and MS replaced it. Never had a problem with any other consoles. I keep them in spots with good ventilation and give them a rest every 3 hours. My 8800gt died after 2 months and thats with an auto fan config with rivatuner that kept the card from going over 70 celsius. EVGA replaced it. Pc isnt immune to issues.

 

You cant go 4-5 years on mid range upgrades and high end would be higher than the cost of a console. I upgraded to a 3500+ and 6800gt in 2004 for $600-700 and new games are unplayable on even low at this point. If I did a mid range upgrade back then it would have needed to be upgraded much sooner. I cant really complain because I got hours and hours of enjoyment with that setup.

 

Steam is usually the same price as retail, at least in the U.S.

 

I dont follow pricing in other coutries so I can only speak for the U.S. I've only said this about 5 times now.

 

$8 rental is for five days. With all the time I put into TF2 and BF2 and some other mp games, I dont have time to replay games like Assassins Creed, Bioshock, R6 vegas. I probably wouldnt replay even if i had the time. The number of games I spend 15 or less hours on, greatly outnumbers the games that offer good bang for the buck like GTA for example.

 

I saved $42 on each the following games: Bioshock, Assassins Creed, R6 Vegas 1 and 2, Graw 1 and 2. Graw pc is different but I couldnt even max the game with my 6800gt, the aliasing was horrific and while I like lean and shoot fps I prefer 3rd person with a cover system. Thats $252 saved. Maybe $232 if the Graws were $40 when released. Plus a playthrough of games like The Darkness and Condenmed at $8 apiece is awesome bang for the buck.

 

I continue to keep a current pc since the platform still gets great exclusives like Stalker, COH and Witcher plus games like Elder Scrolls and GTA are better on pc.

 

Godfather annoyed me even more than the console fanboys. Thats what got me started.

Last time i checked this topic wasn't to discus whether or not a console is cheaper than a PC but to post theory's about a possible PC release of GTA IV. In Community is a nice forum called tech & PC chat in which you can be discussing hardware and costs between consoles and PC's all day.

As I stated earlier it is likely that we'll see a PC release. They haven't denied it which would give them more profit and their entire lineup on Steam. Steam btw is cheaper for me so your stores must be real cheap They can be trusted to go where the money goes and with PC community of GTA being pretty big due to modding etc. they will certainly make money out of it.

Anyways, I came in here to see if there was any news, or hints of any sort of a possible PC release?

 

Also, I was wondering if the piracy issue has been brought up? Is it likely that they are going to wait at least until after the holidays to release a PC version because PC games are the most likely to be pirated, right?

 

I know you can pirate an xbox 360 game, but I don't know how easy it is, and I know that nobody has successfully (yet) pirated a Playstation 3 game and succeeded in playing it.

 

So, is this a possibility?
