I don't think it will be released any time soon, but I'm sure R* won't let PC gamers down.

I think everybody knows they will release PC version, but THEY ALREADY HAVE LEFT PC GAMERS DOWN; AGAIN!!

Well I guess it depends how badly you want the game. As we have seen already with San Andreas, and I think Vice City and GTA3 before that, the precedent has already been set by R* games. Those games was released on PS2 first, and ported on to PC 6 months later, so I don't understand how you can not expect the same to happen this time around, especially now with the next-generation consoles bossing the games market in terms of exclusive releases etc. Just be patient for 6 months and it's likely that we will get an improved copy of GTA:IV that is worth the wait.

ROCKSTAR - PLEASE LISTEN!

I just hope this time around because the multiplayer is going to be so obviously awesome that Rockstar has in place the requirement of serials for the game to be played online. I mean the single player will be a huge draw card for sure but if you want to make huge sales on PC (and avoid a large hit from piracy) you make your game have awesome multiplayer and REQUIRE the game to be bought because you need a serial key or something.

I can see the multiplayer for GTAIV really taking off in clan ladders, this will be HUGE on PC!!!

Herbo, I agree with what you're saying, but had've they just released the PC version at the same time as the console versions, then piracy would not have been as big a deal as it is going to be.

Requiring a key for online play is no-doubt the best solution for piracy, but given the damage done by the delay, many people simply won't bother with it, and play single-player on a pirated copy instead.

I can see the potential this has when it's on the PC, but I can also see Rockstar f*cking it up in so many ways.

E.g:-

- Not including multiplayer on the PC -- as the PC requires that they actually know something about TCP/IP programming (instead of using some toy-like SDK like they probably do for the consoles)

- Not including modding tools to allow easy modification of the game's content. This would really be another kick up the ass for PC gamers, as Rockstar know we (the gaming and modding community) can make better content than they can, and they also know that they have their lips firmly gripping Sony and Microsoft's penises, so they should really allow us to make mods for the game while we wait around for their prostitution delay of 6-or-so months to get the next release.

R* let PC gamers down in 2001 when GTA III was the first game in the series not to come to PC at the premiere release date. GTA 1 was originaly first released for PC and later portet to Playstation 1, GTA2 was a simultanious release I think. If GTA was a pure console game at the very beginning I would be more likely to accept the PC delay. The PC version never sold bad, sure the console version sells more but I think the picture would be very different if there was a simultanious release, 6 months delay hurts PC sales badly and encourage piracy.

especially now with the next-generation consoles bossing the games market in terms of exclusive releases etc.

You think it is good thing that is going on? We customers should use our power and fight this evil, if we just give up and accept that the CURRENT-gen console(last gen tech) keep bossing around things will get worse than it is for ALL gamers believe me.

When discussing cost with PC, I think it's important to focus on INCREMENTAL COST; that is, how much extra does it cost you to take your current PC from where it's at right now to where it needs to be in order to make it "gaming ready"? This usually is a matter of upgrading some combination of CPU/Memory/Motherboard/Graphics card.

Other parts don't really need to be upgraded that often (power supply, optical drive, case, fans, etc.). This is in stark contrast to consoles which basically have you buying these parts over again when the NEW next-gen comes out! Woo hoo!

INCREMENTAL COST is key because most people have computers to do other things with regardless and whether they play games or not they will periodically upgrade their systems. So, you can't necessarily look at the cost of a part and say it's JUST because you want to play a game.

Shall I also mention that consoles have that wonderful EXCLUSIVITY. sarcasm.gif Yippee! You won't find this on PCs, no sir. So, console owners have the luxury of buying BOTH the PS3 AND the Xbox 360 if they want to be able to play almost every game (except for those mind-blowing Wii games. Add the cost of the Wii if you want to play these exclusive titles as well). MS and Sony have their customers practically kissing their feet for the opportunity to take up the arse.

If that's not enough, console gamers get to pay more for their games. And WHO has their hands in console gamers' pockets snagging the royalties? You guessed it, Sony and Microsoft! Yay!!! Please give it to me up the back door again MS and Sony! Console gamers' bottoms must fit them like a glove.

Oh, and the only reason I'm fairly confident we will see a unpolished port of GTA IV on the PC is that R* has shown time and time again that they are driven purely by money. That's it! No more, no less. R* has a rich history of letting PC gamers down. If anyone knows of one favorable thing R* has done for PC gamers or PC gaming in general I'd love to hear it.

Having played GTAIII/GTA:Vice City/San Andreas I can't ever remember me thinking "this is a crappy port" which commonly comes up while playing other ported games. Rockstar are clearly NOT stupid. I'm sure they recognize the HUGE potential GTAIV has on PC purely for its multiplayer alone. Make it require purchase (with the need for a serial for online play) and it will sell by the truckloads, I garantee. PC gaming clans, ladders and competitions and communities just cannot be beaten by consoles at the moment. I will probably buy the game on 360 then by it again for PC to play solely online for it's multiplayer. Hell I will probably buy 2 copies for PC so my mates can play online with me on my second computer! Everyone knows the PC is superior place for shooters smile.gif

I have nothing but confidence that GTAIV will be properly ported.

Rockstar are clearly NOT stupid.

Many posts made by PC gamers and long-time GTA fans, state otherwise.

Rockstar Games...

- ...sold out to Sony.

- ...sold out to Microsoft.

- ...turned their back on the PC platform for reasons mentioned above, and in many posts made by many different people.

- ...left content in a game that they knew they'd get into trouble for, all because they don't know anything about the optimization of game code and content.

- ...are so full of themselves, weak as piss, and just plain f*cked-up, that they ignore EVERY SINGLE EMAIL FROM ANYBODY which happens to question why they release f*ck-all on PC anymore.

- ...(with their exclusive lips-on-the-dick treatment of Sony and Microsoft) continue to attempt to poach PC gamers off to the console.

Rockstar North is a sorry-looking shadow of its former self -- the glorious DMA Design.

I hope one day for PC to start getting same-time releases of GTA, and, if that doesn't happen, then I hope that Rockstar Games goes under...somehow.

Look I understand your frustration at the game not having a simultaneous release on PC as well as those consoles but the reasons I'm sure are VERY simple.

It's far easier to release a game on a console because it's a standard platform, whereas PC configurations are massively varied. They can get their game out quicker and start making money back now instead of waiting until the PC version is finished.

They are a business, they are there to make money. Well ALL know that PC is the superior platform for gaming therefor it makes perfect sense to release a game on the consoles first as gamers are like crack fiends. They want the game and they want it now and will probably do anything they can to get it. So nobody will wait if they don't have to. Some people will probably go out and buy a console just so they can play this 6 months earlier. Then when the PC version is released they will buy that too because as I've said previously, it's the the superior platform for shooters and the clans and communities are FAR superior to consoles.

6 months isn't even that bad when you compare it to another big name release from a primarily PC company. Gears of War was released exactly a year later on PC. Twice as long as we will probably have to wait for GTAIV.

Another thing I have to credit Rockstar for is the fact the GTA games have required extremely minimal patching when released on PC which is simply unheard of with todays "rush the game because we can patch it later" developer mentality. I expect this iteration to need more patching though due to its huge multiplayer options as there's always tards out there looking to exploit games.

I wouldn't say its crappy, but rather that it LOOKS like a port - a high resolution version of the console game. Nothing is enhanced or polished, even though PC capabilities dwarf those of the toys.

Rockstar are clearly NOT stupid.

How about short-sighted? Obviously, I'm not the CFO of R*, but I have to question their judgment. $50 Million sounds good on the face of it, but is it worth alienating the PC gamer base? If R* was TRULY committed to putting the most stunning product on the shelves, they would design the game around the PC, THEN port it to the consoles. Also, R* needs to embrace the modding community, not fight it. IMO, these two changes would lead to greater sustained long-term profits. No need to whore themselves out to MS and Sony.

...left content in a game that they knew they'd get into trouble for, all because they don't know anything about the optimization of game code and content.

Exactly. What does R* do after this fiasco? They blame it on the PC modding community. What a bonehead move on their part! Like the truth wasn't going to come out. Morons.

No, I'm tired of seeing game developers take a mile when they're given an inch. Most of them just end up stabbing PC gamers in the back. Eventually, they will stop releasing games for PC altogether and the game industry as a whole will be worse off for it.

There's no good reason why it should take a developer longer to release a game for the PC. All games are CREATED on computers, NOT consoles. Let me know when games start being developed ON consoles.

Another thing I have to credit Rockstar for is the fact the GTA games have required extremely minimal patching when released on PC which is simply unheard of with todays "rush the game because we can patch it later" developer mentality.

R* doesn't release enough PC patches as it is (or patched it properly). For starters, they could have gone so much further in terms of optimization. Frame rates were capped at 25 in SA because they didn't want to make the console version look bad. Draw distances were cut short. I could go on and on. Other than that it ran OK for the most part. Since it was made to run on a console, it didn't tax a standard gaming rig much (unlike some PC exclusive games).

Please, i know for sure that i saved some money, time and energy when i bought ps3. Im able to play the game immediately when it comes out, i dont have to spend time on thinking will my computer be good enough to run the game if it someday comes out for PC. And for that dude who claimed that buying a PC that would run this type of game would be cheaper than buying a PS3, PLEASE, ARE YOU FROM MARS?  colgate.gif

You are one sad little kid. Do you read actually? People took their time to explain you how things stand and you still persist? How moronic is that?

It would be one thing to say "I like consoles because they are (more or less) straightforward, no OS to worry about, only p&p." This would be a rock solid argument I would never try to dispute. But to say that PC gaming (in comparison to consoles) is expensive? Outright DUMB! Like a lot of people have explained, you can buy a PC for SAME cost of a PS3, but what do you actually get?

your money worth

a gaming PC which plays at better res, lod and fps then your puny little console

a multimedia, work, play, whatever-the-f*ck-you-want station

RELIABLE hardware (unlike your precious console)

In 6 years of my PC gaming I had one hardware fault. A MB ventilator got stuffed with particles of dust so I had to replace it. It cost me like 4$ lol.giflol.giflol.giflol.giflol.giflol.giflol.giflol.gif 4$! Some time and know how was needed also, but bare in mind that 6 years ago I didn't know anything bout PCs.

You whine that these developers owe you something, I'd suggest some people probably owe them quite alot in lost revenue from all the stuff they've downloaded. Spare me the 'I buy all my games' spiel, piracy is rife in pc gaming and pc gamers are only now feeling the repercussions.

You want to play GTAIV? Buy a console and pay for it.

Yessir, I'm gonna buy not one but three consoles. Yeah, since X360 lasts like 3-4 moths, I should be set for 1 year. For only 1000$. Yay! And yes, you are correct, there is no Piracy on consoles. X360 has been cracked and games are available for download, PS3 is on the way, I presume.

Yeah, the reason is people at R* and T2 are filthy little sellout backstabbing god forsaken whores.

It's far easier to release a game on a console because it's a standard platform, whereas PC configurations are massively varied. They can get their game out quicker and start making money back now instead of waiting until the PC version is finished.

No, it's not. You should get informed before you post like this. What do you need to develop games for consoles? A PC. What else? A dev kit. An expensive dev kit, yes. And you need more then one of those. Like ten, each costing 20000$. Now that you paid a lot for some gear, you need to get down with all those grim console details of coding it properly since consoles have this uber hardware which is not that easy to work with (PS3 especially). What do you need to make PC games? A PC.

This PC delay thing is a TOTAL nonsense. Do you remember why was GTA delayed? Because of PS3, that wonder computer. They (R*) just didn't manage to make it in time, because PS3 is so god damn complicated that they had to postpone. By now it would be probably on PC also. Yeah, my respects goes to consoles, PS3 especially. Thank you very much Sony an MS for your precious little gifts icon13.gificon13.gif!

Also, Herbo, you might share with us why is it that ALL the other developers manage to work on ALL the (mainstream) platforms at the same time? Let me provide an answer. Because they are not sellout crack whores like R* and T2 are.

Then when the PC version is released they will buy that too because as I've said previously, it's the the superior platform for shooters and the clans and communities are FAR superior to consoles.

Are you serious? Why in the god's name would I buy a console for one silly title? Why??!! If R* was into making money form game sales they would release on all the platforms at the same time. They expect high piracy rate so they release it at least 6 moths later. Well, it's like to say that you are scared of wolves so you're going to have a nice little swim with crocodiles. How many people can be expected to buy a silly 6 or more months old port? Why would they? Certainly not because of respect R* has shown them. Not because of any extra features. Not because of a good and proper port. Why? Because they are honest and loyal fans of this company called Rockstar that showed them nothing but disdain.

Remember a certain game called GTA SA? It sold 2 millions on PC. Not bad, especially when you take into account it was delayed for 6 (SIX) months. How much would it sell had it been properly released, at the same time as console version? Had it been designed for PC?

6 months isn't even that bad when you compare it to another big name release from a primarily PC company. Gears of War was released exactly a year later on PC. Twice as long as we will probably have to wait for GTAIV.

GOF is sh*t. Let's compare GTA with some other releases. Like COD4 or Crysis or the future release of Mafia2. GTA seems silly doesn't it. Cod4 came for all the platforms, Crysis is to strong for any console to handle and MAfia2 will probably kick the GTA posterior. I hope. To say the least, Mafia has mine respect. GTA has not.

Another thing I have to credit Rockstar for is the fact the GTA games have required extremely minimal patching when released on PC which is simply unheard of with todays "rush the game because we can patch it later" developer mentality. This is no credit at all. If you release the game with 6 moths delay it better not be buggy. Also, that 2.0 (and later) version release of GTA which disables modding. Nice, isn't it? Yeah, well done R*.

Sorry for the long bitching post.

That's true. But at least Epic (despite all their recent faults) added a whole extra chunk of game and some engine improvements to go with it.

Which is more than R* have ever done; with the possible exception of using some higher quality textures in their PC releases. And in SA, using a larger draw distance to make the flaws in the engine and code even more apparent.

Just wanted to point out that I was one who bought a PS2 exclusively for San An, and then picked it up for PC the day it came out. Truth is, I had never been much of a console gamer (N64!), but I wanted it bad enough to buy a new machine, so I did. Granted, I sold it just after I got the PC version, but the point stands. Developers (big ones anyway) make for consoles FIRST, because they sell more units. I know you're angry at the company, but don't let that interfere with the fact that R*/T2 makes a sh*tLOAD of money on consoles, likely far more than is even worth it for PC.

I suspect the 3D series was ported out of loyalty to the PC fanbase that got them started. I also suspect that months of bad press, congressional hearings, a class action lawsuit and so far, upwards of $25 mil in cost since Coffeegate is probably just a small reason why we won't see a PC release.

Hey, I'm holding out hope too, but I'm from the Buffalo area. You know how much we love lost causes. biggrin.gif

I'm actually not against democracy though. I'm against things I think are f*cking stupid. I think this is f*cking stupid. - Sweets

Now as for all this google bombing, I really do not see the point, nothing is going to force Rockstar to produce the game for the PC. If you really want to send a message then go and buy the GTA series on Steam, that way Rockstar might see it is worth bringing the game to the PC platform. I have always found you get more with a carrott than a stick.

Maybe nothing will force R* to bring out a PC version; but honestly do you think that we get something by remaining silent(read overlooking our right to object) that is not possible with speaking out?

The idea to google bomb R* is a final attempt to let our voice be heard thru a loudspeaker as nearly all of us have lost temper over the fact that R* holds no respect for us PC gamers.Seeing as how our e-mails were simply ignored by R*,i'd say a further action like this is quite better than nothing.

Perhaps nothing doing with this approach in terms of a PC version release, nonetheless we'd get not less than peace of mind by venting ourselves off.

By the way,I'm still awaiting someone to spark the thing off so that we can go ahead. In other words all we need for a start is a simple proper web page to rout the whole traffic thereto.

SA sold by truck load on PS2. xbox sales matched the PC sales. Figures for GTAIV are different. There are like 12 million of PS3 sold in total. This means that expectations which estimate that GTAIV will sell a couple of million on x360 and PS3 are probably correct. Expected PC sales (based on previous GTA on PC experience) are 2 mill. 6 moths later. That means that if PC version was released simultaneously it would earn even more (IMHO). Anyway, PC release shouldn't cost that much. Slap those Nvidia and/or Intel commercials on it and they are set. I could bet they have it more or less ready stashed somewhere in a safe and dry place.

It is true they want to make money (like everybody else), but there is no reason (besides being sellout backstabbing leeches) not to release the PC version in due time, on 29th. OK, if the PC would delay the whole thing, then it would be prudent to delay it. But the fact is, PS3 delayed the game for over 6 moths. By this time the PC version should have been out already. As I understand it, firstly they made the X360 version, then tried to port it to PS3 but realized it's not going to be to easy, so they pushed the release date forward. The PC version should not be that hard to finalize since most of x360 stuff can be reused (also, they probably don't plan to improve the PC version at all, so there's no real cause for delay).

In other words, if they planned to make the PC release PROPER then I wouldn't mind the 6 to 8 months wait. But, since it will most probably be a half assed port they really have no excuses. Also, if they don't want to release it for PC - OK, f*ck'em, don't release it then. Just say so and get this over with. But they want the money after all. To be more accurate - they need it with the expected console sales. PC could easily bring from on quarter to one third of the profits this time around. And they say PC gaming is dead.

And yes, I LOVE lost causes inlove.gif.

By the way,I'm still awaiting someone to spark the thing off so that we can go ahead. In other words all we need for a start is a simple proper web page to rout the whole traffic thereto.

IMHO some petition page should be used (like the one mentioned some posts back).

EDIT: WOOHOOOO, I made it to page 200 cool.gifcool.gifcool.gifcool.gifcool.gif

I suspect the 3D series was ported out of loyalty to the PC fanbase that got them started. I also suspect that months of bad press, congressional hearings, a class action lawsuit and so far, upwards of $25 mil in cost since Coffeegate is probably just a small reason why we won't see a PC release.

Yeah, for a minigame THEY added to the game, that THEY neglected to remove, and subsequently blamed some random modder for. (even though he happened to just find it)

They will probably use THEIR OWN mistake along with the age-old spoonfed piracy bullsh*t to put the PC release to the ground.

I don't think it will be released any time soon, but I'm sure R* won't let PC gamers down.

Going OT again, just wanna mention that DML's sig is one pixel or so too large, and the mods went crazy when I did that. Just a warning, but you seem to have gotten away. tounge.gif

I'm not at all disagreeing with you, and have on a few occasions "corrected" some people about R*/Pat; just pointing out that T2 is not likely to chance something like that again.

@pie: Good GOD that SA screenie looks incredible.

There isn't a shadow of doubt that I would be disappointed with a watered-down console version. I know too much and my standards/expectations are too high. Besides the principle of the matter, it's just not worth settling for (on so many levels).

Plus, there is so much money sitting on the table in front of R*'s salivating mouths - money from PC gamers waiting eagerly for it. The game is finished and would take very little in the way of resources to bring it to the PC. Asking R* to not to go after is like asking them NOT to take to the $50 Million from MS. It's inconceivable. And, it's not the wait that kills me, it's the console children.
