I know it's not a forum about Mafia but that really shows how R* are suckers smile.gif

ya i agree with u ,R* are suckers and there is reason ,it's sony company , but come on those suckers give us (GTA), i know that every time they bring to us a new (GTA) they said it's just for consoles but later when the consoles will be dead they release it for (PC) and we all know that . About (mafia II) it's a great game and it will be competitive but i still love (GTA) because it have big history and give you alot of action.

Who ever said e-mailing does nothing? I find it a cathartic experience, it clears the soul and the mind. My mail (to all the tree addresses) is as follows:

Not so dear Rockstar,

Is not my e-mail worth ANY sort of reply? I am not expecting much, even an automated answer would do the trick. I believe my concern is genuine and justified and therefore my initial mail worth of some kind of reply.

All the recent actions (actually this goes back years, since GTA III) from R* and Take 2 make these two companies extremely platform selective. Precisely, it makes you extremely against PC.  Which I would find to be OK if you would go public with a statement about not supporting PC any more. If you wanted to OFFICIALLY publish only for consoles, fine by me. Good riddance, I say. But that is not enough for you, is it?. You know that publishing the game for PC will cost you only a fraction of what can be made from PC revenues. In spite of all the piracy going on, you are planning to make a bundle on PC sales. At least as much you are prone to make with each console.

Stop degrading what little reputation you have left in the eyes of PC gamers and make some sort of (honest, if possible; you can find the definition for that word on wikipedia) statement regarding the future PC releases. People say it's only about money, but it's not for you is it? If it was about money, you would make a simultaneous release for all platforms and make as much money as you can while you exploit the initial hype to the fullest extent.

Your deviant tactics will not make me (like most of PC users) buy a console just to play GTA. Even if someone gave me a console for free, I wouldn't purchase and play GTA on it since I find console gaming a degrading experience. I wouldn't download it, if available. If the game is not worth releasing on PC, then it's not worth playing at all.

Your actions (as well as mine) don't count at the end of the day. This is all only about games. If I don't get the chance to play any following GTA on PC - well, who cares? I don't. What I do mind, however, is the treatment I get form R* and Take 2 like I'm some second or third grade citizen. And only because I'm a PC gamer.

Regards,

I forwarded my old mail to give it some depth. Of course, I don't expect any sort of reply. It is more probable for the FEDs to show up on my doorstep cool.gif. Who cares, the have no authority in my country icon14.gif. Did you hear that, FEDs? Sod off biggrin.gif.

SCLASS, you are a strange one. Some posts make you as a normal (console) gamer, but on other occasions you seem to be a "fanboy." Which one is it then?

Nothing what GTA_Godfather said is out of place. Games should be developed for newest hardware. For instance, Crysis can't be played on max settings today. It's and example of a game that looks forward, but leaves more then enough space in the back. This means it CAN be played on older PC's (like my 6 year old machine; it runs on minimum, but it runs) and if one wants the extra niceness, well he is free to pay for it at any time.

It is you SCLASS who chose your path, the path of console gaming. And yet you attack PC gamers when they make educated comments. Your rants make me conclude this - you are rather disappointed in your console and all the marketing scheme that goes one to keep it alive. Yes, you read correctly, keeping it alive. The console development is an extremely expensive process. Its so pricey they can't charge full price for consoles. Why is that? Because PARENTS (they represent the gross of targeted market) will NOT buy the console for their KIDS if it's too expensive. I am not saying you didn't buy your console with your own money, as many have. I am just saying that MS and Sony aim to sell the console to young gamers who don't have any money of their own. In addition, to cut losses, they make consoles in a crappy fashion. Why? To keep it low cost, and to keep people coming back for more consoles after the previous one "expires" and gets a transfer to the trash can (this touches the GTA_Godfathers ecological sensitive side.) Alongside with this, games are more expensive to feed those beasts (being MS and Sony) from the usual PC release, and a lot more expensive if we take Steam into account.

IMHO console gaming as MS and Sony see it is dying and the sooner they realize it the better for all of us. Of course I am not that smart and capable as most people working for those companies are and sure as hell they understand the situation far better then I do. There's one sensible question here - if things are going so good for consoles and they are kicking PCs ass big time why, oh why, do MS and Sony see the need for subsidizing it big time?

EDIT: I also "reminded" those funny people at PC GA and received that automated response again.

...is as follows:

Well done. I gave up emailing those f*ckwits after I drew-up that ultimatum a bit over a week ago.

In 6 days time, if Rockstar Games is still yet to respond to my many emails, then I have full permission from them, to illegally download any version of GTA IV.

It is truly a good feeling when I know that I can, if I wanted to, go and download GTA IV, and I have Rockstar Games' full support. Quite pathetic on their behalf don't you think?

People. there's no need to say that R* are suckers. It is assumed biggrin.gif. I know, it's a slight chance, but if someone here disagrees that people at R* suck ass then he should state so cool.gif.

Yeah, DML, they had it coming (Take 2 CEO goes: "OMG, this guy is relentless, what are we going to do... dumbass") for treating us the way they have. I hope our Czech friends will find another, respect worthy publisher. IMHO, since Mafia 2 will be (very much like Mafia was) a game ahead of it's time, Illusion Softworks should go on Steam and make the most profit out of the PC release. It's those consoles holding them back. Bah, their platform unbiased marketing policy and game developing honesty colgate.gif. Shame me thinks cool.gif.

EDIT: check this thread. Apparently, Sony released the "new" controller AFTER the console has ben put on market. How funny is that? lol.giflol.giflol.giflol.giflol.giflol.giflol.gif Yay, let's all go to the local toystores and purchase this goodness cool.gif. Sony is my favorite console manufacturer... NOT!

It makes a lot of sense to develop for the least powerful system if you are planning a release on more than one platform from what I've read.

I found this interesting: (.pdf)

http://www.valvesoftware.com/publications/...Development.pdf

Don't forget to read the speaker notes by clicking on the upper left of each page.

Basically the guy is saying that it is more profitable to target PCs that MOST people use, not the high end PC, because you want your game to shine on MOST PCs. I just had to pull some quotes:

If you take a PC…

Make it a closed platform…

Have manufacturer-driven QA…

And very limited memory….

You get a console.

My favorite wow.gif.

There’s also some similarities between PC and console development. Currently, targeting a modern console is pretty similar to targeting a low-end PC.

We found that the 360 had the Shader Model 3 feature set -- and more -- but its fill rate was closer to a midrange PC, so we slotted it in right… there.

This is what we have been saying all along!

Once you have a system for managing between the platforms, the PC is just an incremental cost.

If you’re not doing it as well, you're leaving money on the table.

See R*!!!??? Fu*k you, you scum! Die... pretty please.

Also, you need to be done with the console product sooner.

Manufacturing lead times are longer on console products.

You need to be serious about hitting schedule. Four weeks isn’t enough to wrap up a project for shipment.

The console is the more constrained platform, so you need to be done with it sooner.

It’s easier to port a PS3 game to 360 than from 360 to the PS3, so if you are supporting all three platforms, work to whichever one has the tightest constraints and the others ones will fall into place more easily.

Ahem, why is GTAIV late? Crowd goes "Because pf PS3!." Correct.

Some nice quotes. Now to tackle some things I personally don't agree with.

Also consoles need big packed up files, while PCs are fine with directories full of loose textures.

IMHO archive is better. Faster loads, less files on disc, less fragmentation, better disc capacity efficiency, less entries and fragmentation of MFT table.

A lot of the PC market isn't people buying the Alienware monsters, it's the $1k Dells.

As far as I know Alienware is a ripoff. Also, for 1000$ you can get a decent PC. For 1500$ you get an excellent machine which can run most games at max (except for Crysis; any others?) settings with smooth frame rates.

This being said allow me to state that I read only one third of the document. I picked only the interesting titles.

Any way, i was thinking. IF GTA4 is being released on the PC do we also get downloadable content. Since it is MS that has paid for DLC.. And since MS is also from Windows (yeah, its true!) it could be true right? confused.gif

While reading the T2 First Quarter Fiscal 2008 Financial Results i found one interesting reading (made bold and underlined sentence that made me think):

Ben Feder, Chief Executive Officer of Take-Two, added, "We're excited about our robust product lineup, most of which is based on internally-owned and developed IP. With one of the strongest release schedules in the industry, Take-Two is clearly well positioned for the future. In addition to Grand Theft Auto IV, for the balance of fiscal 2008 our releases will include Midnight Club: Los Angeles, Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution, Top Spin 3, Don King Presents: Prizefighter, Carnival Games for DS, Carnival Games: Mini-Golf for Wii, NBA® 2K9, NHL® 2K9, episodic content for Grand Theft Auto IV on Xbox 360, as well as other titles. We also have significant visibility into fiscal 2009, which includes additional episodic content for Grand Theft Auto IV, Mafia II, Borderlands™, BioShock 2, our complete sports lineup, additional Nick Jr. titles under our agreement with Nickelodeon, and several new brands."

In 2008 they plan to release GTA IV for X360 and PS3 as well episodic content for X360. But what about this additional episodic content for GTA (in late 2008/early 2009, and they don't tell us for which system)? Is it going to be again for X (which already has episodic content) or are they going to make PS3 owner wait 6 months to get extra stuff or is it something related to PC release?

Ideas?

They have their heads so deep up their asses they don't know what are they doing anymore. Anything is possible, but you can bet that any possible extensions for the PC will be delayed as long as possible.

IMHO this DLC business is just for messing with our heads. Firstly they force us to go on consoles, then MS throws this curve ball to make us go for X360. Because a "true" GTA fan can only "truly" experience GTAIV while playing on this sad plastic piece of... console.

The game needs to get released first, then the extra stuff can be taken into account. IMHO they won't add any towns, because they need to keep some stuff for future releases. How many towns can they make before it gets boring? This DLC business will be just like Stories. Some new characters, a parallel storyline, maybe a couple of vehicles and gadgets or a new radio station. New town? I doubt it. Maybe a small island, village or something along those lines. IMHO it will have that already-seen-this-done-that effect. Basically more of the same.

My only hope is they will stop at 2 DLCs and not turn the once famous GTA franchise into Sims franchise.

Hmmm yeah that's pretty stupid. If i want one of those things i'll just download some mods. I won't pay sh*t just for a extra character or something....

Love your signature DML, made it yourself?

Thanks. I made it after seeing what that DirectX9 graphics mod does to the game...makes the lighting and reflections look similar to the GTA IV screenshots that we've been seeing around so frequently.

At-first, the game performed like sh*t, but then I disabled anti-aliasing and motion blur, and now I get smooth, playable framerates.

GTA3Freak-2001 mentioned it a few pages back...

Yeah with frame-limiter on GTA SA is limited to 25fps, yes you read that 25fps! We all know why don't we?

There's also the ENB series graphic mod which tries to add real time reflections, bloom, shadows, real reflective water etc. to the game and while it does do those things performance is terrible even on very capable systems like my own(Dual Core Athlon, 2GB, 8800GT)

Looks nice though http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtop...st&p=1057676145

The actual site (mentioned on the first page of that thread) is in Russian, so here's a translated link...

EDIT: [use s-paco's link...I didn't see the obvious English version link at the side of the page]

Just download the latest version for San Andreas, then extract to the install directory and play. It doesn't even overwrite any game files, simply puts a DirectX9 wrapper DLL in the same folder as the GTASA executable.

Once in the game, simply press SHIFT+F12, and the graphics kick in. You can make changes to the included INI file to change the behavior of the graphics.

@ the two posts above: Thanks for the links. I haven't checked this thread out in a few days, missed a few pages. tounge.gif

Is it compatible with SA-MP, or is my GFX card teh literal sh*t? I crashed as soon as I connected to a server. I'll have to try out SP, even though I don't play that no more.

Again, thanks.

EDIT: Works in SP, though it lags like hell. At least it's cool for screens. tounge.gif

Your an unadulterated f*cking idiot Godfather....design around the high end PC's that f*ck all percentage of people have ?, get off your high horse - Most people are happy with a decent HDTV and a console, hope your crying into your cornflakes come 29/4. PC's have a small following compared to consoles, get over it ! - the moneys where the consoles are  -  CC - i apologise to you ahead of time but godfathers rants piss me right off....

That's absolutely not true, in Europe, espacially in Germany PC Gaming had always a huge importance. I don't know many people (and I know a lot tounge2.gif) who own a console, but most of them own at least a less than two year old PC which is enough to play most of the current games. And as myself none of them would be happy with a plastic toy because they know about the abilities of the PC, not only at gaming.

All of the people I know prefer console gaming over PC gaming. (EDIT: The gamers that is, but I guess you understood that) "You don't need to install, just plug and play", "Better graphics", "No lag", "We like men" and a few others are their reasons.

Back on the DX9 mod, I tried it for VC and all cars turn white and extremely reflective and shiny. No lag, but looks like hell. How can I make it look more real?

For sure? They like consoles because of better graphics and no lag? Then maybe they never tried gaming on PC. I did on console. And what is so complicated about installing? Everyone should be able to do it. And as games become more and more complex also console games will need to be installed. Didn't they ask themself why consoles become more and more like PCs, with hard drives and internet connection?

Consoles are indeed more like PC's and that will go on for every generation until it dies?!? It could happen but that's beside the point. They will always have the downsides of consoles being limited with no software that can run on it, not the ability to upgrade or change broken parts. Things brake down more often because of it's lazy construction and you have to get the entire thing to the manufacturer. And Sony can't even give you a new console because of the shortage of 60 GB versions in Europe.

And about that graphics mod, I'll try it if I can get San Andreas running again. I modified it a bit too much and files went missing when i pasted others over them so I'll need to clean it up first.

Yeah, this is funny basically because people think that installing windows, programs and games is as pleasant as vasectomy. The installers for 99% of software are 99% straightforward, but most people just stay clear of it. Also, I think that the age of plug&play consoles is over, since consoles tend to be more and more PC like. And yet, they despise PCs! It seems to me that consoles and some console gamers are going through a hard identity crisis cool.gif.

On SAMP you can play with 200 players. No lagfest.

Console kiddies will have been waiting decades for a 16 players multiplayer game. Remember PC gamers can enjoy multiplayers since 2002 or so methinks.
