The Chain Game is for anyone who wants to play along, we are going to start a game from the beginning and take it to 100%.

Please read the Rules/Guidelines before you start to play.

The Rules/Guidelines are here so that the game can progress and everyone can have an enjoyable experience while making a contribution to its completion.

Rules/Guidelines:

  • Call the mission that you want to do or just call a turn by posting in the topic.

  • The definition of a "mission" is "any named mission". Examples are "In the Beginning" "Learning to Fly" and "Big Smoke". If the save file name changes, then it's a "named mission".

  • Download the previously posted save file. We want to use the same save file throughout the game and take it to 100%. After 100%, we can see who has the fastest racing times.

  • Use the posting format (see below for the format).

  • Complete ONE named mission only, save it and post a link back in the topic (use edit).

  • Use <GTASnP> (Samutz), Rapidshare, YouSendit or RogePost to upload.

  • Wait until 3 other turns have been completed before calling another mission.

  • If 6 hours pass without another gamer calling a mission, then the 3 mission rule is reset & anyone may call a turn. This does NOT mean to wait 6 hours between personal mission/turn calls.

  • Time limit to complete the mission is 3 hours. We will use the post time in the topic. The timer starts when a mission is called. After 3 hours and the caller has not posted, it's a forfeit and anyone else may call a mission.

  • The caller may call a forfeit. The forfeiter should wait at least one turn before calling another mission/turn. The forfeited turn will not count towards the '3-mission' rule.

  • In the event of two gamers calling a mission the first one does the called mission.

  • Mission strategy is up to the caller - just don't use cheats/trainers.

  • Do not save after getting busted or wasted.

  • The caller may purchase/collect items (weapons, etc.), eat, dress, date, get a tattoo, workout & get a haircut for CJ.

  • The caller may do any non-named missions/collections/deliveries in the 3 hours. Please report any extra stuff in the Notes section.

  • The caller doesn't have to call a mission when all they want to do for example is collect/do 25 tags, or do the Vigilante mission. In that case, just call a turn, but remember that the 3 hour time limit will still apply.

  • "Lame Missions":

Some missions are Named Missions although they are in fact only cut scenes without any action going on. These missions *are now Free Missions* and can be combined with any other one Named Mission. --> Examples: Verdant Meadows, Fish in a Barrel

  • Stadium Events:

All Stadium Events *are now Free Missions* and can be combined in any number with any other one Named Mission.

  • Race Tournaments:

With the exception of the 3 races you do within the storyline (Lowrider, Badlands A/B), all races *are no longer Named Missions*.

--> You can do up to 6 races if you don't do a Named Mission as well.

--> You can do up to 3 races if you also do a Named Mission.

(Thanks to rubregg for putting the 'Lame' missions rule together)

    Suggestions:

  • Do not fail a mission unless it's to collect a special vehicle (BP/DP/EP/FP). If a special vehicle has been collected, let us know in the Notes section.

  • Try to keep the safe house saves minimal.

  • Avoid known glitch situations - taxi, and basketball for example (in other words do NOT save at Madd Dogg's mansion), though you may use the Ammu-Nation glitch, and the one for "NRG-500".

  • Try to save with full armor.

  • Collect ammo when possible.

  • Save close to available missions when possible.

  • Let’s try to have the last save for 100% be ‘End of the Line”, so let’s try to get everything else done before that.

  • Have FUN!
Maps for Collectibles:

For those who would like to spray tags/collect oysters/take snapshots/gather horseshoes, you can find the program for SAMA here, it will provide relevant maps showing which ones are left.

Supplement to the rules of the Chain Game (V 1.0 and V 2.0) --- by crazyanurag & JAJ

This supplement is designed to discuss some of the technicalities of the Chain Game's rules, and it was thought best to provide these in the original post.

(1) Abuse of the '3-mission' rule:

Callers are encouraged to understand the basic ethos of the Chain Game. One should only call a mission, once the previous caller has completed his/her called mission and posted the new save. That's the basic idea of the chain: a new link can only be attached as long as the previous one is bound. Hence, to call a mission while a previous one is being completed, defeats the entire logic of the chain. In such a case, one can actually wait around and call every 5th mission beforehand, and negate the possibility of others to call the mission. This seems to be a fine loophole of the 3-mission rule, which callers should not exploit. Let's also consider the fact that when a mission/turn is called that the 3 hour timer has started.

(2) Exceptions to the 'One Named Mission' rule:

•"King In Exile"

•"First Date"

•"First Base"

•"Gone Courting"

•"Made in Heaven"

The above missions are all cut scenes in the Catalina strand in the Badlands. The icons for her missions trigger each of these, in sequence, though it is up to the caller to decide which of Catalina's jobs they'd want to pull off. In each such case, the caller should call the cut scene (like "First date") and also the job (e.g.: "Local Liquor Store"). The format should be: Missions: First Date/Local Liquor Store. The caller can't help but do a 'double', so to say, as one can't save after the cut scenes, and in these cases the 'one named mission' rule is exempted.

•"Back to School"

•"Learning to Fly"

•"Boat School"

•"Bike School"

The above vehicular schools are comprised of 'named' tests (e.g.: "Burn and Lap", "Circle the Airstrip", "Land, Sea, and Air", "Stoppie" etc.). Callers should take note that 'named' tests are not equivalent to 'named missions'. Hence, callers should call schools and not particular tests, even though it may seem, for some, to be against the 'one named mission' rule. To call and do one single test, or only a set of two/three tests, would only add confusion to future callers, and be an impediment to the progress of the Chain Game. Callers also note: in the posting format, you should use "Back to School" and "Learning to Fly" and not 'Driving School' and 'Flying School'.

• The 'CV' icon at Wang Auto after "Back to School" and "Yay Ka Boom Boom" are completed

This one's a little different from the first four, as even though an icon appears for Cesar on the map, and you go to the dealership at Doherty, it is not followed by a mission, and instead opens up Cesar's strand at San Fierro. This is different, also, from "Verdant Meadows" because even though the mechanic involved is the same, the latter is a named mission, while this is not. Callers may buy Wang Auto after the completion of "Back to School" or "Yay Ka Boom Boom" (whichever is done later), and this will not be considered as a violation of the 'one named mission' rule. Alternatively, callers may buy it before starting "Zeroing In", if it wasn't purchased beforehand.

(3) Missions exempt from the 'One Named Mission' rule:

• The Chiliad Challenge

• "Verdant Meadows", as mentioned above

• "Fish in a Barrel"

• "Stadiom Events"

• Los Santos Race Tournaments

• San Fierro Race Tournaments

• Las Venturas Race Tournaments (Cars)

• Las Venturas Racing Tournaments (Aircraft)

(4) Non-storyline missions which alter the save names:

• BMX

• NRG-500

• Zero's Missions

• Cesar's Missions in San Fierro

• Heist Missions in Las Venturas

(5) Other things to keep in mind:

Dating : All callers can help CJ progress with any of the 6 girlfriends in the game. It does not have to be called separately, and if it is, then the '3 hour' rule will apply as always. It is best not to alter CJ physically and instead collect all oysters as soon as possible to make him forever desirable.

Import/Export : All callers are allowed to participate in exporting cars, and this does not have to be called separately. Callers, however, must remain true to the spirit of the Chain Game and only export cars when full earnings can be availed. Do not export damaged cars. Callers can also help by storing cars on the lists beforehand as and when they come across these. The Cheetah and the Huntley are probably best to stock up early.

Turf Wars/Gang Wars : These can be separately called for, and also be completed otherwise. The second round of wars in Los Santos should be completed before "Riot", as this saves a lot of trouble and makes the last few missions speedier. The posting format for these would be: Mission: Gang Wars. Callers should, at all costs, avoid any sort of 'territory glitch'.

Have fun playing!

My 4-star exploits:

I practriced just going to LV & getting the Jetmax to spawn so I could use it to make it back. Made it back twice; 2 for 2. I had to swim pretty far away & come back to see that the Jetmax was there. The second time I was able to get the boat pretty far up the drainage cannal by keeping the speed up and making as close to a 90 degree turn as possible, I was surprised how far it slid.

So today I tried to do the NRG-500 jump into LV. Couldn't make the jump, landed in the water. Tried to get some other transportation but ended up being closed/pinned in by a few cop cars & other cars, got pulled out & busted. I then got a parachute & decided to take the Shamal & parachute in over the Combat Shotgun in southern LV at the Freight Depot. Got there, got the shotgun & made it back to the dock where the Jetmax is supposed to be, yes, I said 'is supposed to be'........ 0 for 2

There's nothing wrong with the game. The last couple of chain games were played with a modded save game that had extra vehicles and weapons. This, for a change, is the unmodded v2 game.

The auto-converter is a function Samutz has implemented in his gtasnp website. v1 players don't have to convert anymore. Upload to gtasnp is as usual. Download from gtasnp gives you two choices: the top part of the download page gives you the originally uploaded files, the bottom part gives you converted-to-v2 files.

Well done, JAJ. That's a pretty good start. Check out this <Survival Map> I was drafting. The yellow arrow pointing at the Jetmax is the angle at which I approach the Jetmax in order to get it to spawn reliably. It's a little longer swim, but it's always there when I arrive. To shorten the swim, jump a bike off the hill and bail at the last second.

I'm still trying to get than NRG jump down consistently. I'm actually having better luck using a Bullet with nitrous, but it's a little early for that just yet. If I miss the jump and enter LV in the landing zone west if the church, it will trigger the wanted level before I have a vehicle, so I plan on taking the first cop car that arrives on the scene. Pick them off as they exit the vehicle. There's a pretty good chance of taking a shotgun blast from the 2nd cop, then replacing the armor becomes the second priority (after finding a bike). I don't usually demonstrate cop killing in my videos, but when I'm desperate for a vehicle, or even armor, I'll turn on them and take their vehicles. Or, head to the freeway (hop a lot) and play cat and mouse in traffic. The cops get squished, CJ just gets knocked around a bit, and the pile ups keep the cops busy while you grab a safer vehicle across the road. For a safer entrance, swim a little further west and enter at the small mound south of the quarry. CJ can stand safely without earning the 4 star wanted level if he doesn't step on the freeway until he picks off a couple of bike riders and has a vehicle handy (Roadtrain and Firetruck are also good choices).

It's been a long time since I've bothered to jack the Jetmax for the return trip to LS, but that's where I started too. Now I almost always use the Mako Span (freeway bridge between LV and Montgomery) unless I'm feeling creative. If you arrive at the barricade (which is only on the LS side) with any random vehicle, then exit and jump over the rail on to dry land and jack a vehicle from the road below (not a good idea if CJ has a parachute). There's a bribe nearby that should drop the wanted level to 2 or 3 stars, and it doesn't take long to clear the rest. If you arrive at the barricade with a bike, CJ can ride up the invisible wall to get a little extra height to clear the rail - this is my standard method of return, but took a bit of practice. Recently, I've been bunny-hopping the rail with a Mt. Bike, but I wouldn't recommend that just yet. One of the easiest methods to return is using a Dune. Just park the nose against the east rail, and push on over. But anyway, the safety of boats is still a matter of contention between rubregg and myself. I can't think of a time in recent memory when the Mako Span has let me down, and I remember clearly getting hosed on many occasions trying to escape with a Jetmex, but I don't think my route was quite as safe as rubrugg's - I went to Blueberry for the bribes.

Holy Smokes! You parachuted to the spaz spawn? That's a ballsy move. That area is swarming with foot cops, and the only vehicle spawn I can think of is a ZR-350, which is bound to take a few hits, and then run into a road block. If you survived that, then you deserved a safe return - tough luck on your vehicle spawn. BTW, I find I have much better luck with vehicle spawns if I have the 4x Draw Distance mod installed. They seem to be able to get drawn in while they are still out of view.

Thanks mate. As I said, I had a bit of practice wink.gif

4 Star experience sure helps make handling the low bike skill a lot easier. But after completing vigilante level 15 in one go on a cop bike in VCS, San Andreas seems a whole lot easier. Leeds really screwed things up in that game. My longest vigilante bike run in San Andreas came at the end of the original chain game. I wanted to beat the score posted using a Rhino with a cop bike, so I kept at it until I finally beat level 55. That took several attempts to pull off successfully, but ever since then, level 12 seems to arrive about the same time I get settled down to business.

So here's a fun vigilante challenge for anyone interested. Load up the 100% save from the last chain game with the extra vehicle spawns and go grab a mini-gun and the SWAT Tank. See if you can run the level up to... level 30 to 50 or so. To the point where time, damage, armor, health, wanted level, and location don't matter any more, and you could keep the mission going indefinitely if you wanted to.

Okay, enough of all that. It's time for me to take a turn.

That's what I tried to do but I missed timed the jump & ended up near the intersection with the expressway close to the safe house in Rockshore West. I jacked a car & made my way to the LV Freight Depot, got the shotgun & then got in the same car & drove to the pier for the Jetmax. Is there a way or direction to aproach the Jetmax so that it's always there? It seems that it might be easier & more reliable for me to use the jump into the LV airport (the one that OrionSR shows in one of his videos) & take the AT-400 & fly that back to a LS.

My old computer wouldn't run the 4x Draw Distance mod but I recently got a new computer & it will probably be able to run it.

@JAJ & OrionSR:

Well done on the 4star stuff, JAJ icon14.gifsmile.gif As for comments, well, OrionSR has said it all I guess icon14.gif One thing about that Jetmax - it certainly spawns inconsistently. So far, I always thought it depends on the vehicle you're in while approaching it - has it something to do with the direction you head towards it as well?? If so, for me it was always there when I swam there from the SE. From the LV side I usually approach it from the N. Sometimes it wouldn't spawn but then I was usually in some sort of 'special' vehicle, like the Dune or a racing car (Cheetah or something).

As for escaping by Jetmax, all I can say is that I never lost my Jetmax on the routes I'm describing in my guide. I only lost it when I toyed around on other routes... But then again, I *did* most of my 4star practice without the knowledge of either the AT-400 or the jump into LV airport, so there... lol.gif

As for vigilante - after my other turn (where I failed at it) I practiced it two or three more times and finally made it until level 15. In the higher levels I'm having far more problems with AK47 and Shotgun hits than with the actual bike skill. I seem to be doing better with long-distance M4 / sniper kills rather than on bike by SMG. Not that I really tried a lot, but my record on bike must be around level 20ish (with full bike skill though) and in the Hunter I once made it to level 1xx where I cancelled because I got bored. I remember that it made a sh*tload of cash...

...with the SWAT van??? ...might give it a try some time, but honestly, I've never done vigilante in any 4-wheel vehicle... Does the SWAT van have 4 wheels anyway? aaah hell... lol.gif

...time for a turn now...

I didn't usually have too much problems getting the Palomino Jetmax to spawn. I tended to approach from the west on a bike by taking the narrow path just west of the Mako Span to shake the chasing cops. I got in the habit of always checking to make sure it spawned before descending down to the dock where CJ was likely to get trapped by a cop car parked over the stairs. The dock north of Palomino Creek is attractive because of the armor and Jetmax, but it's in a location with lots of foot cops, near a road with cop cars and Enforcers, and a long way from any fixed vehicle spawns (all I can think of is a parking lot far to the east - by the garbage can horseshoe). My exit strategy usually includes topping off CJ's health, armor, and assuring a strong vehicle before trying to get out of town. It's always planned and deliberate, and not a desperate attempt when things get hairy.

Alternative boats might include a pair of Jetmaxes that spawn off the east coast of LV. One is in the south east corner of LV's map, and another northeast of the Linden Station. Both are below fairly steep cliffs, I don't think there is a way back up. However, both are out side of boat paths, so the cop boats won't be a problem until you get into the area of the docks. The east coast of LV is free of foot cops and vehicles, so all you need to worry about are the helicopters, and loading from restricted areas seems to take care of that problem anyway. Also, if you are really in a pinch (got knocked off a bridge), there is a Speeder west of the safe house in Fort Carson, and a Dinghy a little further south, that can be used for emergency transportation.

The AT-400 sounds like a good idea, but it can be a lot more fickle about spawning than the Palomino Jetmax. Then you need to worry about pop-up trees and the like, and find a place to land. The LS airport doesn't have many good vehicles, and is full of cop cars. Try it out and let me know if it works to your advantage.

Most cars totally suck in 4 star land. If you need to jack any vehicle handy look to trade it for a bike, any bike. Even a scooter or bicycle is safer than most cars. The few vehicles I can recommend are the Sandking, Dune, Firetruck, and Roadtrain. Packers and Coaches aren't too bad, Barracks are tough but a little slow. Cop cars, and other really fast cars that handle well and can actually out run the cops might survive for a while. Also, if you keep restarting a pimping mission you can continually pump the health of a Broadway back up to 400. It's like a tank that can get flats. But seriously, get a bike. Look on the freeway and run one over. Head out to the airstrip for the PCJ, or try out the vehicle spawner at Emerald Isle.

@everyone

Samutz needs some feedback for the new auto-converter function on his gtasnp.com site. Would players with v1 please not convert the save files anymore before uploading to gtansp.com. Players with v2, please download the auto-converted files (lower part of the download page). If there are any problems, please feedback in this topic. Thanks icon14.gif

EditEdit: Ok, so as I was approaching level 200 and wondering how far I should play it before cancelling the mission (you're right, OrionSR, at some point it could go on forever). Then my game took matters in its own hands and crashed around level 186. ...leaving me without a savegame or stats file... angry.gif At least I have tons of screenshots, some of which are here for your viewing pleasure. Although I started next to the Johnsohn House, the mission took me all across the complete map. A brief visit to the desert, quite some time in LV, SF, the Badlands and Whetstone, and even a trip to Angel Pine. Note that somewhere in the 140s the reward for each completed level gets to over 1 million lol.gif

So what did you think? Was it a worthy challange? I guess I should have said something to the affect of going on indefinitely if the game doesn't crash. I had that problem when I tried extended Brown Thunder missions. 200 or so was not much problem, but attempts at anything more usually ended with a crash (or a stupid mistake like letting the hunter unspawn by going inside to eat).

BTW, in case someone tells you otherwise, it is possible for CJ starve to death if he doesn't eventually stop to eat during an extended Taxi mission.

I'll take a turn (sorry, my game crashed, couldn't report a forfeit)

I actually tried doing Brown Thunder, but every single time I got a report which states: "Suspect seen in the vicinity of San Andreas", but I look at the map, and there's no red triangle indicating where the suspects are :S Kind of annoying when you have done a lot of levels and then there's nothing to kill.

Anyone have a solution for this? I have only two mods of any kind, (the Hydra and Hotknife) so I don't think that's the problem.

The Hotknife is a two door and will only spawn during the 1st two levels, so that's probably not the problem. Does this always happen at a certain point? Or is it one of those glitches that occurs eventually. I'm not sure if it will help, but here's a few strategies I use when I've got difficult targets.

If the targets are stuck under the airport during brown thunder, or they won't come out of the tight alley where Woozie does his drive-by mission in SF and you are driving a Rhino, or you are fighting in the countryside of SF, or can't get away from the marina while driving a bike, then use some of those minutes you've stored up during better times, and head cross country to a better, far off, corner of the map. The targets seem to be restricted to an area within range of CJ, and will frequently warp to a new location. They seem to be less likely to warp if on foot, which can sometimes be a problem.

The famous Vigilante Glitch from version 1 of SA on PS2 is still present on PC (v1 at least), but it is inconsistent and usually not very useful. Unless you've got a target stuck in a really weird location, perhaps inside of a wall or building, and they can't be killed by fire weapons. Or maybe you are really desperate for a quick kill and the targets are a long way off. Enter a building, this will often force the targets to warp - it has something to do with the interiors being located high above the planet. When they warp, sometimes they fall through the planet and die. Exit the building and enter the police vehicle to keep the timer going, if they don't warp and die on the exit, enter the building again.

Anyway, I've never had the glitch you've described, but perhaps some of these methods for killing things you can't see might help you through a difficult spot. I've given up doing monster scores on vigilante, it will eventually crash before I can save anything.
