I've been thinking of doing thise one thing for a while now where each chapter focuses on someone different. And, after writing an originally totally unconnected piece, have figured out what bit was missing. Basically, it'd be one guy the first chapter, and someone he meets or passes during the story in the next chapter, until there's a whole chain of people. A few would get killed off or just be there to link to the others, and it'd build into some close-knit storyline after a while. It's called Clockwork People for the meanwhile, which was the title of my AS level music song but unconnected storyline-wise. I got an E, so it wasn't that great. I hope this story is a bit better than the song!

It'll need a sh*tload of planning, and I need to finish Saharan Sunset before I even start thinking more in depth with it.

Also had an idea to put all my bits and sh*ts of stories in a thread, alike to Phusion's old one, and the one Ronmar has at the moment. But, if any of the short snippets are well-received, and I have a good idea about expanding on them, I may create a full-blown story on it in a seperate topic.

What's up with the unpinning?

That's what I was kinda gonna' do with that 'Heat' story a while back but that's been put on indefinate hold Get it planned out dude, sounds really good.

So.. Batman! Nananananananaaa Batmannnn!

Cracking on with the story, got about five chapters written already, hopefully it will get a huge following, I'm putting a lot of effort in to this and not rushing it, after about ten chapters are solid and written, I might consider posting it

What's up with the unpinning?

I noticed the topic hasn't been used in around a week, and decided to try unpinning it again as it used to be. It should be active enough to stay at the top anyway, and I just figured that with the other 4 topics now being pinned, was the ideas one totally necessary?

As for the idea, I think it sounds superb. I'd like to hear more about it - but subtlety is the key. I love chains of events and people that are connected only by the most minute detail, especially when cleverly executed.

Mark.. watch these films:

Memento

Run Lola Run

Pulp Fiction

Magnolia

Snatch

Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels

They all have elements of characters crossing paths, they should give you some ideas

Ah right, good idea. It does seem to be more active now you've unpinned it actually!

And yes, I hope some of them to be subtle. For example, a man who they see in a shop, not even focused on much, will be the link to another character. I'm going try and focus on the general scene, describe a few people's actions so as to not give too much away. It's just maintaining all the people's different stories and making each of them interesting enough for it to be worthwhile writing and reading. There'll be say... three storylines tops, through the eyes of five people thereabouts. But in between each regular character is some nobody. I need to have a good think about it when I have enough time on my mind, and just jot a load of ideas down.

Unvirginiser: I've only seen Pulp Fiction from those. Another good one sorta similar to paths crossing is City of God, which is a favourite of mine. I think I saw Snatch when I was ten or something, can't remember it too well. Might have to check those others out, cheers for the help.

I've got a few titles that I like the sounds of:

- Clockwork People

- It's a Small World

- Ordinary People

- A Day in the Life

Don't know which to choose though.

All those films are great. Should make for mucho inspiration. Also, upload the song? I'd give it a listen wink.gif

Would you be interested in a collaborative effort, Mark?

I brought a book today called Hunting Evil, it's about Steve Wright, the Ipswich Ripper. I find serial killers to be very interesting and always wanted to write at least one good story about one.

It'll probably be a short story I attempt when I'm in the right mood, I've already written the outline for the true start of my C&S' series but there's always pastures new to explore, right?

Basically, my underlying concept is a killer who goes after men through personal advertisements in the local paper. He claims to be a beautiful woman, even supplies a picture, but then springs his trap when the date arrives.

Good idea? Too hackneyed? Whaddayathink? smile.gif

I don't have it with me like, it was sent away to be marked and got half marks, so I'm not the best of songwriters really!

And as for the collab, I'll need a real big think about it first, but I'm thinking of it being a solo project.

However, you and Lochie both want to do a collab, and Craig said he'd be willing to lend a hand to something mentioned at the end of the last page and top of this one. You three were the ones I PMed about a kindapping collab a bit ago which fizzled out. We should all get together or share PMs and work on that idea, or something totally new.

I'm up for doing collabs with anyone whose interested, we can chat together and work some stuff out.

@ Typhus: It sounds like a good idea and I'll give it a read if you follow it up, but how will the date come to his house? Surely they'll knock, see it's a guy, and leave? Unless when they call he pretends to be a room-mate or something and tells them to wait. Maybe have some background noise playing from a tape recorder or something?

Omnia sunt Communia

I haven't had any noteworthy ideas for weeks now. Most of my energy has gone into writing for BUYG: San Andreas. I haven't even touched IV, sadly. I've been drawing a bit though. Nothing complete though. Complete lack of inspiration as of late.

I'm planning a somewhat epic saga for my Yakuza character, Hajime. Though I doubt I'll end up posting it here. tounge.gif

I would say "I'm willing to do a collab too" but we'll probably just end up trying to do a WD-wide collaboration. And we all know how that ended last time.

In an effort to get back into writing full-time, I'd say I would give doing a collab some serious consideration at this point. But it all depends on the plot (assuming a collaboration happens).

The white houses and freshly trimmed lawns seemed sort of generic as the early morning dew quickly soaks my sneakers. I feel out of place in this part of town as I walk along the foot path. Normally the family SUV’s, the purebred Labradors and the mothers walking and gossiping about who’s f*cked who in the neighbourhood would make me sick to my stomach.

A different sort of nausea kicks in and I vomit all over someone’s rose bushes, wiping my mouth with the back of my hand only helps spread the flavour; the bitter taste of beer and rum make me hurl again. It’s 4 am and I can tell I’m drunk because I wouldn’t be in this sh*thole of a neighbourhood.

I walk up to one of the perfect white houses with the perfect tin roof and the freshly trimmed lawn and the perfect family van parked in the garage that was paid with by money that could probably pay of all my lifetime debts. The marble steps cause me to slide around for a split second until I take control of my feet again and stumble to the front door.

I flick my fringe to the side and straighten out my jumper, its some large knitwear thing I stole from a retail store yesterday afternoon. I bend down over and wipe off any mud or grass from my legs, the cold touch of my hands gently brush over my knees and that’s when I realise I must of torn this pair too.

Hmm?

Goddammit, how come I'm never invited?

Serious writer-to-writer collaborations need to garner a steady mind and full-consideration between each other's ideas. What about the writing? Who writes what? What, what, what? Personally a collab be wouldn't be very excellent as predicted. We only seem to do good on our own.

It was a spur of the moment thing, it only happened a couple of dozen times! ...Want us to make it up to you?

Agree about the solitary work being better. I guess a collab would only work if the collaborators pitched their ideas and as a group came up with a solid plot out of everything that was suggested, and then vote as to whoever actually wrote it. Unless one collaborator wrote a chapter each (everyone writing a paragraph of the same chapter etc. would be a mess). I honestly don't know how they work. confused.gif

Mm, well I guess if we had a MSN meeting then went away to do our seperate parts then came back we could pull it off. But that takes alot of organization.

And thats effort cry.gif

We could always try an IRC channel.

I've hosted a few. I could host it. We could pick a few ops and a few regulars to be voice and wa-la. Plus, if we do that, it can stay up 24/7.

MSN convos usually just turn into everyone making jokes about gay sex. I remember what happened the last time we had one...

Aside from trying to get the Ghost ending done, I'm well on the way on working on Ghost II. I'm trying to develop back-stories to make the impact of the story seem all the more tragic and real. My problem with Ghost is that I didn't take any time at all developing all these characters that meant so much. It also hit me just how little I have in terms of character numbers. I aim to make Ghost II the Ghost I always wanted to create.

Before you host an IRC channel you'll have to change your name to 'Patches'

<discussing collab>

[c=1]Craig[/c] says:

He starts these gay jokes!

Lochie says:

Oh Patches.

Lochie says:

Thats his new name.

I hope you enjoy it.

But on a srs note, we'll have to decide a good time for all of us.

It's true, Patches loves these tumbleweed effects of gay jokes really. It's just when he's into "serious business" that he takes a dislike to them.

In other news, I'm torn with what to do with Ghost II so maybe some opinions in here could help me. Do I make Ghost II a direct sequel, or do I make it a sequel only by name? Separate cases, different masks, almost like a reboot of the series?

God damn it. One of you has to give me your MSN, I feel so left out.

Wait, weren't you on my MSN list at one time, Craig? Damn thing keeps deleting random contacts. I swear, I've re-added Oxi five times.

I dunno, I'd have to read the end of Ghost so thst I could know what the sequel would be about. However, that different mask, different person idea wouldn't make sense unless the mask calls the guy Ghost, like it does in the original.

Just an update on my idea about the serial killer who uses the personal ads.

This killer is going to be seriously twisted, I did concept art months back for a character I wanted to use in another tale but now I think I can include him here. I think you may be quite shocked by how bizzare this guy is.

Just for starters he is a total schizo who converses with a dear friend called Swanky Ted. Who happens to be a gigantic white worm who lives in his guts.

Watch out for Squashing The Love Bug.

So I have a story about a war and the effects of it on the human participating in it coming up due in my english class, and I've got an idea that I might find a way to post it on WD, maybe as a short story or possibly come up with an actual long story.

It's gonna be somewhat long, word count has to be at least 750 and it has to be at least 4 pages typed on MS Word with size 12 font.
