rx7 rr4
Can't stand mazda's anymore unless they begin with RX or Mazaspeed. I'll take the GTI. It's not a GTI, just a base 'Rabbit'. Anyways, I'll take the Golf anyday. In 9 months I hope to have good enough credit and some cash for a down payment on a GTI with most of the extras. Yayz. Wanna guess what business I am in? That's right! Loaning to suckers who can't repay. BOO YAH! REPO MAN COMIN' YO WAY! But seriously, I'd probably take the Mazda. The Golf has been ridiculously overpriced here lately (I know it's country specific), and the Mazda may only be a cheap floozy on the side. But hell, the Mazda has those kick-ass red lights in the center console at the radio.

It's not going to take me 9 months to work up money JUST for a down payment. Besides the money I'll be making credit cards usually come with $500 or $1000. Maxing out the credit card(s) and making the minimum payment on time is what builds credit. Shoes, clothes, PS3, whatever. My grandma has a green book from the days when she was a real estate agent that gives you monthly payments over a set period of time with a set interest percentage. A GTI, sticker price $30K with a $5K down payment at 7% interest over 5 years comes down to little over $500 a month. I don't take care of rent, food or utilities. Just me, myself and I. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy. If not 9 months then 12 months or 15. I'm in no hurry.
tuff_luv_capo
I'm going to do this the lazy way: 2008 ACR Viper 2008 GT-R 2008 SL55 AMG
lurchseesu420
uhhhhh..........Viper ACR. Is there even still an SL55 around? GTR just sets off the gaydar in too many ways for me to have much interest in it right now. The Viper is a bit of an anti-hero in todays electronicated world of plainness, of which the GTR is the clean cut superman. I'd rather have wolverine. Picolini
Gonna have to go with the ACR. Pretty much what Lurch said, raw brute, mechanical power. After watching the GT-R lap the 'Ring, even though it did it superbly, it just seemed... boring! Especially after seeing how the ACR and ZR-1 got around it. And that engine... mmmm. I know, I know 8.4L ONLY 600HP WTF OMG. Oh well, it works! And it has tons of potential anyways.
stingray.
Mercedes doesn't make the SL55 anymore. The SL-Class doesn't belong in this class anyway. Viper for me. Dodge has come a long way with the Viper. It uses no gizmos or electronic nannies, there's just you and the car and that's pretty much it. You don't get much closer to an even 6.2 then that. @ stretch - kinda the wrong topic, but yeah, Kevin showed me one somewhere on the interwebs. It was wicked. http://www.gladcliff.com/svtfocus.html (http://www.gladcliff.com/svtfocus.html) Wouldn't mind having one with the Cobra's IRS 8.8 rear end. I guess I should get my facts straight before hitting the reply button. The reason they promote the engine as a 6.3 liter is to pay homage to the original 6.3 liter which was used in the S-Class, which at the time, was the fastest production sedan. Everybody's gotta play off of the past. Like how Chevy calls the LS7 a 427 when it actually rounds up to 428 ( I believe it's 427.6 c.i. to be exact). Picolini
Well, this one seems like an easy pick to me, but I'll do it anyways. 2010 Camaro vs 2008 Challenger vs 2008 Mustang 2008 Dodge Challenger Base (3.5L V6) $21,995 250hp/250tq ~3,900lbs R/T (5.7L V8) $30,990 370hp/398tq - 375hp/404tq ~4,000lbs SRT-8 (6.1L V8) $42,390 425hp/420tq 4,140lbs 2010 Camaro Base (3.6L V6) $22,995 300hp/273tq ~3,750lbs SS (L99 & LS3 6.2L V8) $30,992-$34,180 400hp/395tq - 422hp/408tq ~4,000lbs 2008 Ford Mustang Base (4.0L V6) $19,375 210hp/245tq 3,350lbs GT (4.6L V8) $26,775 300hp/320tq 3,480lbs Shelby GT500 (5.4L Supercharged V8) $42,685 500hp/480tq 3,920lbs I'd personally go with the Camaro. Strongest base engine, besting the 'Stangs's by 90hp and the Challenger's 50hp. Also you get 25hp more out of the V8 in the L99 SS Camaro than the Challenger, and less weight. Not to mention 100 more horses from that over the Mustang's 4.6L V8. While the Camaro weighs several hundred pounds more in each category than the Stang, it over powers it just as significantly. And due to a better suspension and larger wheelbase and track (and wider tires) I feel it'll be a better performer all around. The GT500 does have them all beat in horsepower, beating the SS LS3 by 78hp, and the SRT-8 by 75. While I'd say it wins over the SRT-8 due to similar pricing and a lower weight, I still feel the Camaro SS LS3 is just as good a value, if not more so. Around $7,000 less, you could spend half of that savings on engine work and be pushing out 500hp, to the wheels, and have a more agile car. stingray.
I'd personally go with the Camaro. Same here. But given the 2010 Mustang has IRS and 400 hp Boss V8, I would take it over the Camaro anyday. The Challenger is history. Plain and simple. I'm almost confident that the 2010 Charger will be close to perfect. If it's any cheap, then it would be my muscle car pick. lurchseesu420
Maybe I'm a bit behind in Camaro news, but what happened to Z28? I thought it was supposed to have the LS9 in a CTS-V state of tune. Did they think it would cut into Corvette territory and cancel it?
Picolini
@stingray, that's all heresay on the 2010 Stang, right? I don't recall seeing even a reliable source with a good tip on that info. Most I heard is that it will be a 5.0 for the next model. Hopefully for their sake it'll be pushing out 400hp. If they can keep the weight down, then it'll help. But it's suspension, or lack there off, keeps it poor around the track. @lurch, I'm almost certain that Chevy will release a super high performance Camaro eventually. I doubt they'll be worried about it cutting into the Corvette territory as they'll probably not give it enough traction (eg, wide enough tires) to fully utilize it as the Corvette could, it's lower on power, and it's just doesn't have as good vehicle dynamics (COG, weight, etc). If they don't release one, it'd be a bit stupid on their part, as I'm sure they'll sell quite a bit. If they can get out a 560hp Camaro for around $50,000 it'd sell. stingray.
Did they think it would cut into Corvette territory and cancel it? Yep. But not because of the Corvette. CAFE's demands for fuel-efficient cars. Although, I don't buy that. Anywho, the 2010 Charger will be based on a modified CLS (Merc) platform. Atleast that's what I've heard. Or, they're developing a completely new platform, which I doubt, given their current financial status.

Picolini
Another thing you need to factor in is that those prices are a bit old, more than 5 years for the Supra and RX7. @stingray, the Charger just sucks because it's a 4 door It'd look tons better a little lower and wider, at least. I'd say the same thing about the current Challenger as well. I was reading R&T's comparo of the new SRT-8 and the old 70 T/A race car. It was funny how much lower, wider, lighter, and meaner looking the old one was. And the old one whipped the new ones ass around the track. I'd figure a brand new, fairly high-end performance car could beat a 40 year old, production-based race car. edit-found the story. http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?section_id=7&article_id=6839&page_number=1 Edited October 15, 2008 by lurchseesu420
Picolini
I was going to say I felt the new Challenger was already pretty wide, and maybe could be slightly shorter... but after seeing them side-by-side in that article (the rear view shot), it looks a lot taller and a bit thinner. Funny seeing as how I'm quite sure it's wider than the Mustang and Camaro, so that old one must have been damn wide. 1,100 pound advantage will help any car, especially around a track. You can see what modern conveniences and safety items can do to a car, that's for sure.
