FROM THE PEOPLE WHO BANNED MH2 IN UK

While everyone thinks that the Brits banned Manhunt 2 because they saw the R* logo, here's another banned game, with a better reason. It's a Law and Order game which featured a Murdered toddler.

It could be a sad day for videogames, but I wasn't interested in Manhunt in the first place, and I've never heard of this game before. Discuss.

What do you mean with good reason? I am sure there are hundreds of people who may become offended with themes and images from such TV shows as Law and Order because the show deals with things that really do happen. The article said the image is similar to the real-life footage, how similar they don't say since they only showed the real footage and not the footage from ingame. I feel for the parents but no one is asking them to play the game. Honestly what were the parents doing playing a game like this to know about the footage which I would imagine clearly states on the back what the cases are about. There's also the classification which would state the themes involved.

Sad day indeed. I don`t know what is everyones problem. It seems they will only let us play terris. The fact is, games are becoming more realistic with better graphics. But hell, it is still a game. I don`t know about you, but i was never afected by some game if it was too realistic or violent. Maybe Resident Evil in some point scared me a little but thats it.

And every popular game has violence, blood, gore etc. But they only ban those that we enjoy more than others. They didn`t ban that US army MMO, which is clearly an atempt to recriut new blood. And they are advertising war in Iraq as a good thing which is far more sick than any game out there.

At least I know why this was banned, against the norm of Manhunt 2. And 'Terris' is spelled Tetris, and since it's now a mobile game published by EA (who killed the Dreamcast, I think) and sold by Jamster (who I don't believe have got rid of Crazy Frog/Cow yet), that's real bad, so 80's, and not the Vice City 80's. I can only think of one game that can match the controversy of MH2: Night Trap on Sega CD! (that introduced the game rating system) (Hot coffee is a close third)

EDIT: I am sure the MH2 banning is the big thing deepthroatgta4 talked about, I'm guessing he had some involement in the Blood and Guts development.

Is Jack Thompson happy yet? I don't think so, so lock up your banned games.

What happened to "All Rights Reserved. Any similarities to persons living or dead is purely coincidental."!?

A woman saw an image of a video game that reminded her of her son, and the game gets banned? Please. Yes, it was a terrible thing to happen to her, her son and her family, but bad things happen to people every day...People are hit by cars regularly and cops get shot all the time, should we ban GTA? How about Call of Duty? Well, people have died in wars, so it should get banned too. This goes over the edge of creative freedom, preventing someone from creating because it reminds someone else of something bad? WTF is going on!?

Look at the game Rule Of Rose. It dealt with kids being killed, abused, torture, and as far as I know it has not been banned anywhere. So why do some games get more attention than others? Like some of them like Rule of Rose not many heard about but is one of the most sadistic games I've seen.

It was out of order for them to include that in their game and they unlike R* can get their game back on the shelves by removing the offending image.

So because one person found an image in the game to be offensive it has to be banned or removed? Sure its not such a big deal to remove or change that image but its the nature of the thing.

Its probably more than one person most of the country has strong feelings about that case and I said it was out of order because its unnecessary to include such a obviously controversial image I'm not pro censorship but I find it difficuld to disagree with making them remove this one image.

It hasn't been removed, the whole game has been banned entirely. Its not just the image they had a problem with its the whole scenario going by the article.

Fair enougth I thought it was just a image or few seconds of video but they should still be able to get their game back on the shelves if they remove the offending section(s).

No, not every where, it's banned in Australia.

That image might not have been the toddler that got murdered, but he looed very similar, so was it just ONE PARENT that banned a game. What's next, Tekken being banned because Nina Willaims breaks bones (which is technically impossible, maybe on PS3, but NAMCO doesn't want to). Please, isn't it past your bedtime?

I recall that news.. and it was rather shocking.

To be fair, Law And Order.. based on a tv show.. I couldn't care less if it was banned.

So you think it's fine to ban game as long as it's not game you want to play? I gotta say, that's pretty idiotic reasoning. I have no interest in the game either, but that doesn't change the fact that banning it is completely f*cking ludicrous and wrong.

OK, the game wasn't banned, it was pulled from the shelves by the publisher themselves because they realised they made a mistake. And it was a mistake. How would you feel if your son was kidnapped and killed in a most horrific manner for no reason and people started using the footage of him being kidnapped without even asking you? I doubt that the image is even that central to the game, it's something that could be easily fabricated in half an hour so there was no need to use that image in the first place.

Censorship is wrong. This isn't.

from what i read somewhere, i will have to agree with this ban. before anyone trys to flame me, the reason why i agree is because they used the real footage of the mother's toddler getting kidnapped.

From the original link:

A photo featured in Law and Order: Double or Nothing is similar to security camera footage of two-year-old...

An in-game photo is similar to video footage. The mother got upset because an in-game image resembled that of her son. The way the article is written is cleverly deceiving: they talk about the photo and its similarities to the security camera, then never mention the photo again, and talk only about the actual footage. They even go so far as to showing a still from the actual security camera footage, letting assumers assume that this is the material in question.
