Maybe the installation is corrupted or modded? - I recommend a uninstall/reinstall. Deleting the [.set] file only is not enough.

And as always: "Update your sound/chipset/graphics drivers!"

Download CPU-Z, and tell us your motherboard chipset.

No -> once upon launching San Andreas, a new one is automatically created and doesn't affect gameplay itself.

You have the option as well to edit your post. An interesting feature to the forums would be an "Update thread" option button to push the thread back to the top of the list after editing. turn.gif

Anyway, as for your chipset drivers, it looks like support for it has been canceled because it was last updated in 2004. But here's the link: http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_udp_winxp_5.10.html

Did you updated the sound/graphics, deleted the [.set] file, and then launching the game to see if it works as yet?

* What's this insanity by the way:

Audio: Realtek HD Sound on an nForce2 motherboard?

Prosessor: AMD Athlon [] 3.0GHz?

I am assuming you uninstalled previous drivers and have got the driver download exactly right here: sound / graphics drivers!

Well i got a hd update one time ago when sa worked and it improved my sound which was nice

BAD driver installation habits. Even so the game worked, it may eventually refuse to work at a later time (oh and remember the [.set] file if not yet deleted keeps the old hardware driver settings you had before - so what you are actually doing in a way is fooling up SA). Stick to the AC'97 audio codec as stated in the hyperlinks above. And get the graphics driver there as well, and install 'em all!

and the prosessor is amd anthlon 3ghz

There's no Athlon 3.0GHz. Plus what kind of Athlon anyway? You most likely have to say that you own an Athlon 64 FX-74?

PLZ MENTION SOMTHING ELSE??????

Uninstall the game via A/R Programs, delete all the San Andreas folders in "C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games", and then reinstall. That's the only thing I can think of that may help to stop crashes apart from updating drivers.

Sorry, but because of you posting incorrect system specs, the link I gave to you was the wrong sound driver (HD audio). Here's the correct one: AC'97

If this doesn't work, I'd rather you using the Radeon Omega drivers. However, the game should run properly after updating the drivers (sound/graphics) and then uninstalling/reinstalling the game fully. You simply cannot experience crashes like that when you try to run a clean install of the game.

It doesn't matter if you downgraded or upgaded the game; what matters is if you cleanly installed San Andreas fully to get back the original files. Remember the only patch for SA is meant to remove the "Hot Coffee" mod.

And I think troubling the [.exe] file is sure to cause problems such as conflcits. So just leave it alone after the game is installed. anuj_cop.gif

ONLY BECAUSE THE ONE THAT IS INSTALLED WITH THE GAME DOSENT START CAUSE MY DVD-ROM DRIVE IS OLD ISH?

That sounds like the game's disc protection software blocking a mounted or burnt illegal copy of the game. You mean the cracked [.exe] that you supposedly got is the only thing that works for you?

DOSE IT MATETR IF I DONWGRADED MY EXE

Or you mean precisely "changed/overwrited". Bought the game? moto_whistle.gif

I did once have a nocd/dvd crack but i got bad results so i re installed the game due to problems and just downgraded from 1.1 to 1.0

its the exsact same exe that comes with the disc

if i do nothing with it it says "disc could not be found or athenticated"

what about the exe rockstar kick out?

anyways

i just restarted the pc after the correct audio was installed and same crash and place

i even checked on my mates pc i had all the files

none are missing

i am realy unsure what to do next

What does the error message say?

disc could not be found or athenticated

so we got a exe from rockstar

then the game worked

but i lost the url and the exe so i got stuck

Ring_of_Fire

I mean when you try to run the game and the game intro credits begin?

If this ever has something to do with "Please insert the correct disc", why the hell didn't you say so? Try putting the correct disc (DVD 1) into the drive and launching the game. I am assuming the game you have is legit, or else the game will work. If it is downloaded or anything else, it's up to you to figure that out.

Uninstall/Reinstall game for the millionth time. Your [.exe] is somehow corrupted. And I need to know if you have the legit copy of the game or not? I would also like you to take a picture of the DVD case and the box art.

You tell us. Something changed. What was it?

Like what Dem stated, I am assuming that you got the game to run flawlessly everytime before this thread got created? If so, I'd use System Restore as a last resort.

Seeing as though registry editing would be risky - try using System Restore to the date when everything was working! It's kinda like a time capsule, and you go back to the fun and exciting past. viddy_pirate.gif

You see, I can't go into Remote Assistance and tell you what to do to get things working, but it looks like you need somebody to fix your own problems effectively and automatically. This would be of course System Restore.

Ring_of_Fire

Just go into the Registry and delete this item: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Rockstar Games. If necessary, do a search and checkmark: Keys, Values, Data. Now type in "san andreas" and make sure to not allow the matching of the string. Keep hitting "find next" (F3), and keep on deleting! After doing all of this, uninstallreinstall the game fully.

System Restore kinda does the same thing too, you know that?

"GTA_SA.EXE has encounterd a problem and must close"

What you're seem to be missing is the fact that throughout the thread, you've complained about the executable file. Something is obviously not right with the file.

Anyway if you even have these games - does Vice City/GTAIII run OK?
