  1. 1. Would you want the map open or sectioned off from the start?

    • Open. I'd like to be able to go anywhere from the start.

    • Closed. I prefer playing through one section at a time.

Close maps brings much fun. smile.gif

i like the closed map too. well, the map doesn't *have to be* closed; but if it is open, the early missions should all take place in like one area (and i think they will... hove beach/broker bridge area) so that later in the game when you finally have to go to algonquin, dukes, alderney, or bohan... it's a fresh and exciting experience. Actually, yeah i could get down with an open map... but it should be like Niko arrives in Broker, and all of his contacts are there, so he doesn't really have anyone to go see or anything in the other parts of the city, but should he want to explore it he can. It's like real life; if i moved to Brooklyn and my cousin and the people he knew all lived there i'd probably hang out there a lot. But if I wanted to go to manhattan or queens for a day just to see new things i could.

Closed, but instead of having physical barriers, like a bridge, roadblock or what ever the whole map is literally open, but if you try to cross into another part you get attacked by every gang member in the vicinity, because you're not "known" or look "suspicious". A few people have already suggested this.

Sort of like a "Enter at your own risk" kind of thing. You can still go there, but you probably wont last very long.

Plus like has been said numerous times, unlocking certain parts keeps you into the game.

I seriously doubt that the amount of sheer detail, and not to mention the GTAIII-ish wow factor returning (rah.gif), will have any trouble at all persuading me to explore around for a loooong time.

Then again, I'll probably spend an hour on the first couple blocks we're set loose into. tounge.gif Top of the Empire State'll be a good ways off and it should be weeks before I even have an idea about the actual size of the map.

Definitely wouldn't want to charge through it; I'll stop to smell the daisies...so I say closed.

But it doesn't really matter.

Definitely closed. Why ruin the experience by knowing where everything is at the start of the game and being able to explore where you want? One city at a time for me - it's nice knowing that you've got more to discover.

I voted closed but now I changed my mind and would want it open from the start.

A Closed city has its drawbacks as theres a possibility of discovering everything in Broker while the bridge is blocked off and after a while you wont feel 'inclined' to go back there once you have gone over to another bourough because you may have 'seen everything' enough times. I know I felt that way slightly with Portland It would feel slightly 'played' when I would return. So I change my mind I think it would be better open from the start you would be able to explore and travel and experience the city all at the same time in one 'coherent package'. wink.gif

Think of it this way you would spend most of your time in Broker once you start the game and then you find that you have to travel to Alogonquin because a mission requires you to go there. You will be able to experience that borough too while not having experienced all that Broker has to offer. It would be nice knowing that while being able to travel the city doing missions and exploring knowing that you still havent explored all of the city one borough by one. That way I think would be tedious.

But It wouldnt really matter for me what they choose. happy.gif

i prefer closed because if everywhere will be open in the beginning there it won't be much fun.

I agree, and I'm sure they can do it in a better way than SA's.

EDIT: anyone got an idea why my sig wont work?

Because you're missing a "]" at the very end

I want the map to be closed. After you've completed many missions being able to enter a new area will give you a sense of accomplishment. cool.gif

I think it should be closed, but I dont think you should do EVERY mission in that area before you're allowed to go to the next one. I think that maybe you should do enough to get you a little familiar then open up the next area but with no missions there until your done with the other burrough. IDK, i really don't mind how they do it its just that if they open it all the way from the start it wont feel the same.

I don't know...

The first thing I wan't to do with this game is to hit Midtown, but I also like the feeling of unlocking the areas as rewards and I doubt they'll have Manhattan (Algonquin in IV?) as the first area...

On that I think I'd rather have it as it was in San Andreas, closed but you could get to it if your willing to take the risks)

I think the story of why the map is closed is important because in SA I always thought why am i being blown up/shot at by all these police for crossing a bridge?

I think that a consequence system such as the people who are after Roman's debt increasing it or taking money away from you if you broke the rules by crossing borough's would add to the realism

Also, what order do you think we should be able to access the borough's in?

I think if it is a closed map then Algonquin (that's the Manhattan one isn't it) will definitely be the last place

your getting blown up because officer tennpenny and his polish lap dog said "dont leave town" well thats the only thing i could really find to explain it

Vanilla Shake

I say open. Like a previous poster said, after a while of just being forced to stay in the same area for a certain period of time, that area becomes old. I'd like to be able to explore the city, get a feel for it, whilst keeping it fresh and replayable. Plus, if you want to stay in one area before a mission takes you to another area, just have a little self-control and stay in that area.

I want it open, but only for 2 boroughs. Let me explain,

There are 5 boroughs right?

*Bohan

*Broker

*Algonquin

*Alderney

*Dukes

So when you first play the game, and your in broker (correct me if i'm wrong), you can then make your way to Algonquin, the next closest borough (I think).

Then, once you completed the missions in both boroughs, you then get Bohan, then Alderney and Dukes.

The reason I want this is because if you want to explore the whole of GTA, but need a rest of missions that will allow you to unlock other boroughs, your less likely to get bored with 2 boroughs, rather than with just one. I mean, as others have said, it is kinda good when you have that feeling of unlocking something after hard work on missions. With 2 boroughs open, you are less likely to get bored as you would with just 1, but you can still have that good feeling when you have completed missions, unlocking boroughs.

I say closed.

I mean who doesn't like staying in 1 area for a while, find all the possible escape from the police routes, stunt areas, and memorize the local roads for future reference. I mean really it can't get much better then that. ( for closed maps i mean )

Sadly SR ruined it for me by having the full map open from the start. Yeah I was able to self control myself for the first 30 minutes then I lost it and went to see it all. Now I don't even know half the back streets, hidden areas, or anything due to the fact it was all left open at the beginning.
