Closed or open map

I thought that was the whole premise for the game - an immigrant in a unfamiliar place, right?

That is true, that an immigrant would be unfamiliar with the area, however, I stated in the lower portion of my post that being closed off would benefit the player, and that is why I voted for it. I cannot speak for you, but I know that when I play San Andreas or any other GTA game I like knowing that I'm familiar with the area in the game so I can complete missions and what not.

Closed. Because you get excited when you open a new area to explore, makes it seem like a whole new game sort of.

And if they open it area by area, you appreciate each area for what it is. Otherwise its all just a big mess.

yeah, you're right. well they have worked on this since 2004, and they do say "things will be different", they also say that IV is gonna be a shocker just like the transition from II to III (3D). i think we all have high expectations for this game, and hopefully r* will not let us down.

Closed.. Almost like before just more realistic this time... When you open the new areas the game get's more exiting u get a Goal kinda...

 

I really can't wait... I'd just wish that the Delay was a big joke and that surprisingly October 16th the game is in the store... (19th here tho )

It is only a city, not a big state, so I want the whole map open.

I'd like it open but since it's happened in every single GTA game, other parts of the city are going to be closed. You don't want to explore too much of the city at one time.

closed. if it's open than i can guarantee that only about 5 percent of people will do missions except to get money to fund their rampages.

I think you'll probably start in Dukes or wherever Roman taxi depot is at and the briges to the other borougs are being reworked or something is happening on the other islands and you can't get there. I want it closed off so I can learn my way around boroughs cuzz thats what I did with SA in Los Santos and hwat I did in VC. It was easy to get around LC in 3 so I didn't care.

It makes unlocking the new territories all the more exicting. Adds mystery and a feeling of exploration.

 

Take that out and the game would limp along.

No, you start off in Broker, GTA IV's equivalent of Brooklyn.

i want it to be closed but i think it might be open because r* doesnt want a stupid reason for you not to cross a bridge and R*'s going for "realism." i think liberty city will be open but all your missons and contacts are on your island and there is no point for you to go into the other islands. just like in SA when you were in the country and desert they was no point in going to the city. i only went into LV and never went back until i had to do missons there.

Sorry to compare GTA to NFS. But - NFS, opted to go ahead and make all there upgrades available, but expensive. Maybe they could do something relative to that logic in GTAs.

Well I perfer the open-map then you can train yourself before missions will be in those areas,stoping training seesions per unlocked area.

A city half blocked is unrealistic. A gta is not a gta if everything is open.

 

R* said that the interiors are more important than before.

 

 

So, how about a city fully open but with some of the interiors locked?

I hope in the game they don't say a hurricane strikes New York City so we will be closing down all the bridges, because that would just be lame.

CLOSED, for me I love the first time I drive into the new city and see all of the new stuff, and go into new shops, and kill new people, I think maybe if they said that bridge maintanance was going on, and it was unsafe to cross or something, but maybe not hold out on unlocking one of the new boroughs for to long.
