Yeah the bars in San Andreas kind of threw me off a little bit. But which one they put in is indifferent to me. I think they might put in a bar because it's not as cluttery and it is as obvious as the numbers, and that will help minimize the HUD in order to show off the city, so to speak.

how about this...NEITHER!!! i like the idea of depending where u get shot is how ur life goes...shot in the head BOOM instant death, shot in the arm then either the arm is weakened or unusable, shot in the leg u stumble but on top of all of that if there's a certain amount of blood that comes out of ur body then u should die of internal/external bleeding...these bars and numbers are dated now and so blah, doesn't really add to the games anymore and it makes the games easier cause u can judge what u can do with the amount of life u have left or until u get the next health pack which i'm sorry but if u have 2 bullets in u, i'm pretty sure that ur foot wouldn't step on it and u're automatically healed...in a shooting game it would be cool to see u hide in a corner while u patch urself up...

No, just, no. That would be fitting into the category of too realistic. Without a meter of any kind, you'll never know when you'll die and when you end up dying, it'll just suck. When you're walking down the street, and you pass by some rival gang members that end up shooting you in the head, it just ends there. Doesn't that suck? When you're starting the main part of the mission with lots of shooting, you get shot in the head, and Boom!, it ends there. Doesn't that suck also? When you're shot in the leg, and end up slowing down for the rest of the mission without a health icon, you're vulnerable to more gunshots, and you end up dying. It just sucks. Those kinds of effects shouldn't last too long or else it'll make the game impossible to beat. That's basically what you're saying

I think I made a point there.

what i was saying doesn't really have to do with realism but more of strategics...yes if u get shot once in the head u SHOULD die...and YES if u get shot in the leg it SHOULD slow u down...and by having those features it would make u a better player cause u would ACTUALLY have to use ur brain for once instead of closing ur eyes and blasting away...that's just not fun...i like having the feeling of fear that something bad will happen if i turn a corner or something like that...it makes the game more interesting....and not boring or predictable...for the realism part i don't really care it's not about that...i just want more strategics added...cause all of the past gta's were just too easy besides that stupid rc plane mission in SA took me FOREVER!!! lol

As some other people have said there should be a bar and numbers. That would look nicer than just numbers but be more accurate than just a bar.

It would look something like this i reckon.

_______ % 100

Bar Percentage

There should be an option to turn it off if you want to not know your health. It would be a good idea if Rockstar Had it like this.

UnitedDestruction

I think we should scrap the bars and the numbers and make the transition to pie charts. This is next-gen, the new era of health meters is upon us.

Honestly though im pretty neutral. Bars if i really really had to choose, as long as their colors dont clash too much

I think health and armor are too unrealistic.

This is how games in the next gen consoles ought to guage your health:

Instead of a health bar that goes down every time you are shot (which conceivably allows your character to survive 10 shotgun blasts to the face at point blank), there should be a luck bar.

Everytime a NPC shoots at you, it misses and causes the luck bar to go down. Either that or the bullet just grazes you. Once the luck bar goes down and you are shot, depending on which part of your body you are hit determines your character's functionality. I.E. if they are shot in the leg, they will limp, if they are shot in the arm, they will clutch the wound with their other arm, if they are shot in the gut, they will limp and do whatever people do when they are shot in the gut in real life, if shot in the heart or brain, the character drops like a bag of hammers.

So, in essence, it becomes more realistic because bullets harm your character as badly as bullets harm people in reality, but, it's not frustrating like in those oldschool games where you may only get to the first two or three boards until you die.

And I think it ought to be a bar. It's more intuitive. In your peripheral vision, you can register the size of the bar's fullness instantaneously instead of having to focus directly on the numerals and calculate precisely the value of the numbers.

Also, there could be things that increase your luck like shooting a certain object or saving an innocent bystander etc. You could also refill your luck in the traditional means by drinking a soda pop and etc.

If we are going for realism, maybe Niko goes down in one shot, unless he's wearing armor. But even then the force should put him on his back.

would be kinda gay, how you supposed to have a decent gun fight with loads of people when you die first shot!! I know they said they are going for more realism but they didnt say its gonna be just like real life.

all this realism talk is doin my head in!

I'm not too bothered, I prefer to play with no HUD at all, just blips on the compass. You get to know the City better that way.

I does have it's cons though. e.g jumping over a ledge spraining your ankle and waking up in hospital...

Maybe when Niko gets really hurt he could limp and say something like

"I really need some medical attention here..." or "I don't know how much more I can take"

I'm pretty sure that was implemented in another game, not sure which one, But I'm certain R* will do a great job in this regard I'm sure.

Snake Without a Tongue

How about you get shot one time and you die! Now that'd be a challenge!

Honestly, I don't care. I play with the hud off. That crap gets in the way. Plus, the meter is bogus anyway. The bullets go zipping everywhere and if you have a spec of life left you pass. If you don't, you don't - time to reload.

Mercenaries POD had something like that. If you ran out of ammo the guy would say, 'should I throw my shoe at them'. And if you were low on health he say, 'I need some medical attention here.'

I can just imagine the kind of funny sh*t they could write for Niko to say. I remember the first time I fell off a tall building in SA and CJ screamed out "Bullsh*t!" I laughed my ass off.
