Skate boarding

Any sport is hard. Skateboarding isnt hard

Nice way to contradict yourself.

It just takes practice.

Oh, so it isn't hard because it takes practice. Thanks for clearing that up.

Then, I started to play the skating games for my Ps2 which i got for xmas one year.

From that, i learnt to ollie, and subsiquently kickflip a short while after.

The fact that you're implying that you learned how to do an ollie and a kickflip from a PlayStation 2 game totally doesn't make me think you're bullsh*tting.

Its just hard when you start out.

I thought you said it wasn't hard?

You clearly didnt persist in the sport being the reason you find the sport difficult and you cant 'land the simplest of tricks'

Okay, so because I didn't keep trying and trying, I sucked from the beginning. Great logic.

Loosing a few pounds might help.

I could make a snappy comeback referring to your typo, but I'm not too sure I'd like to drop to your level of "being the best" and telling fat jokes.

Look, just because something is (supposedly) easy for you, doesn't mean it's easy for everyone else. Not everyone is the same, which you seem to have trouble realizing. Jesus, AshRemains wanted criticism, and all you did was rant about how he was "bragging." You know who's bragging? You probably don't, based on your level of intelligence. I'll just let you figure it out on your own.

hard(er) than enything else is what I meant

Saying, 'its not hard, it just takes practice' is a perfectly legitimate statement, I dont see why It touched a nerve with you

The fact that you're implying that you learned how to do an ollie and a kickflip from a PlayStation 2 game totally doesn't make me think you're bullsh*tting.

No, I really did learn how to do those things from a game. To be honest, before I played tony hawk, I hadvnt ever seen others skateboarding apart from me and a friend, and all we did was mess around, so seeing a kickflip on the game made me want to learn it becasuse I though it looked cool.

Its just hard when you start out.

This is the same statement as I wrote prior. I was just reiterating a point.

Okay, so because I didn't keep trying and trying, I sucked from the beginning. Great logic.

No, becuase you didnt persist, you sucked full stop. I didnt say 'from the beginning anywhere'. Your twisting my words. My point was your making it seem that skateboarding is somehow on another level from other sports. its not, its just slightly more dangerous and some (like you obviously) cant get over that risk assesment and overcoming factor, and becuase you have little/no expierience in it, and/or your expierience of it was hard, you judge it immediately and base your opinions on your first initial time. For me anyway, it became MUCH more easy and fun too after I got over the being scared factor...

I could make a snappy comeback referring to your typo, but I'm not too sure I'd like to drop to your level of "being the best" and telling fat jokes.

Pardon my extra letter O. And (as ive said again) I stooped to that level becuase of the sh*t you said to me through PM. Dont make me quote it.

So .. how about we cut the bullsh*t and get back to skateboard talk ?

I haven't skated a regular board in ages, ever since i've bought my first longboard it's all i've been riding.

Never been so much of an awesome skater at all anyway, most of what i did was riding around.

Anyone else beside murdock rides longboards here ?

I haven't seen much talk about them but i tought there might be someone out there turn.gif

Here's my Sector9 Goddess user posted image And my Landyachtz DH Race user posted image

They're both a bit more scratched up now, but i should have these boards for years. They dont get beat up much at all, other than when i bail.

It's an addiction, if i had money i'd probably have 10 of these boards ph34r.gif

I use the Landyachtz to do a bit of downhill every now and then, but i need to get better before i give it a try on bigger / longer downhill rides.

Doink: you should get into it, it's safer than skateboarding and enjoyable just as much tounge.gif

A few of my friends longboard

Ive tried it and I like it, its much more smooth and relazing if you can do it, everything seems more fluent.

But id never longboard over skateboard. Its just not as varied and theres not many possibilities.

I imagine you to be one of those guys that thinks he knows his sh*t about skating and will let everyone know about it, but in reality is sh*t.

Omnia sunt Communia

I use to skate. I grew up during the early years of Tony Hawk Pro Skater and the boom in popularity skateboarding received afterwards. I never use to be that into skating, if I'm honest. Most of my friends use to do it, so I'd tag along, grab a spare deck and try it out.

I never even managed to learn how to Ollie. I think my most impressive trick was Coffin, haha.

I wouldn't mind learning to skate. It would certainly give me something to do considering the lack of things to do in my village. The major problem I have with skateboarding now-a-days is how commercial the whole thing has become. It's all about who has the best wheels, trucks and deck; whichever one has the biggest name on it.

I can understand it from a technical standpoint, some companies make better wheels than other companies; but do you really need to run around in a t-shirt with the companies name on it? That's what really got to me. Skater fashion has never appealed to me.

I may go out and buy a cheap deck from a sports shop or something and see what I can do. I'm sure there's a few people I can call-up who'd be happy to go out skating again. Would make a change for them; something a little different to smoking weed I guess.

Honestly no matter what activity you pick there'll be idiots, i say go for it.

I enjoy the freedom of skateboarding, you just make your own rules, there's no guideline to follow. It's such a nice sport

Snapped my tail today, tried to do an ollie over some drain when some c*nt comes down the street at like 40MPH or some sh*t. Tail got stuck and I faceplanted into it. Anybody got any suggestions for a cheap blank deck? Somewhere in the range of £20-30.

Get a Blueprint, probably the best decks around for £30. They're just as good as US decks, only they're cheaper because they don't have to be imported.

Which site? I use RouteOne and blueprints are 40. The only 30 one is an 8.0 deck and I use 7.5's.

havnt heard of that brand

careful buying unheard of brands

when I was a little younger, I bought a deck of ebay which wasnt a known brand

I ended up not, snapping the nose, but kind of, splitting it, in half, horizontally, the 1st day I got it from a noseslide on a hubba.

For the rest of the day I continued to skate on it without using the nose and by the end of the day the tail was nearly disintegrated.

skateboards shouldnt do that biggrin.gif

if your buying some unknown brand its better to check first about the wood ect. Good decks have about 6-7 layers of maple wood steam pressed together in a criss-cross pattern on them. any less than this and its more of a chance of the deck snapping

Also if you shop outside of ebay, you can get good deals too...

For £35 you could have bought this almost shock absorption deck, which is made from part-reinforced carbon fibre plates to give the deck 'double the pop'. also it wont snap easily http://www.rollersnakes.co.uk/product.php?...4&page=1&Almost Daewon Og Impact Mini Deck 7.00

Or, you could have bought this Flip rowley team model for £30

http://www.rollersnakes.co.uk/product.php?...874&page=1&Flip Rowley Indy Young Ones Mini Deck 7.00

rollersnakes is a good site smile.gif

Fracture Abec 5 bearings, £14.99

Fracture blank 52mm wheels, £14.99

Now the stuff I'm planning to get

Enuff Demon Trucks, £16.50

Bones Reds Bearings, £15

Ricta Core Cannon Weels, £25.

Which should I buy and replace first?

Ive been using the same old blueprint ones I bought off this guy second hand at my skatepark for £4 about 3 years ago biggrin.gif

they are SO thin becuase i like to revert a lot becuase of the nice noise it makes smile.gif

Will be replacing them soon though

I also have bones red though. get some, there good. Once again, lasted me for a good few years lol

Have you heard of bones swiss ceramics? they can go for like £200 just for bearings sly.gif

Yeah I like my current wheels, they must of shrunk to about what, 40mm or something.

I would never get Swiss though, £200 is just too much, and alas, it's only for downhill and the sorts. I was told because there so precise, they're weaker or some sh*t.

Put simply, these bearings are what the pros use

Maybey when im a millionaire ill have some

Cant really see them making THAT much of a difference. Maybey, for racing or whatever, then yes, but... normal skating? not so much. Ive never exactly stopped short of doing a trick due to my barings slowing down smile.gif

seems silly spending £200 on them

Mind you. if your pro, you'd probably get sent them for free to endorce them

Yeah, the pros kinda annoy me though because they could bail ollies and snap decks and still get paychecks because their sponsored.

Did some dodgy sh*t today on a friends board. Put it in railstand, then flicked it back towards me and caught it into a casper. It's fun.

Is this topic dead or something? Anyway my Blueprint Persistance grip came yesterday, got it off Ebay for £4.75. Got an Email an hour ago saying that my Hardware had been shipped, some unbranded 35mm silver hardware. Still waiting on my deck.

Also, a quick chris cole edit I made for a friend, put it on YouTube too.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vK-PQhVO18Y - Link, much better in HQ.

And last question, what do you guys prefer? A 180 into switch or a switch 180? I must say switch 180's are much more fun.

180 to switch becuase I can do them off just about anything. over down-handrails, into banks, ect

only backside though, not fs unfortunately smile.gif

I cant even atempt to do a switch 180 though so thats a different story blush.gif

Anyway, as the prospect of Easter looms upon us, I will most likely get £40 for it, and save up some more for myself, so what do I get?
