EasyTiger 38 Posted April 20, 2008 Your eyes are closed in every picture. Kips, england isn't sh*t for skating, there are some amazing concrete skateparks and sick spots in general, just gotta find them. So who is everyone's favourite skater? Mine is Jerry Hsu, I love his style and he has my favourite video part in his section of the "man down" video.
asimov 1 Posted April 21, 2008 I just got a new deck recently, I haven't even stepped on a board in almost 6 years but it is strange how quickly you can pick up again. I went from struggling to kickflip on day one to frontside flipping a foot high (still learning k?) ledge on day 2. @niccOGan those are some cool photos man, how long have you been skating for? Blind Joe Death 10 Posted April 21, 2008 I went down to my local skate park for the first time in almost six months today, it felt awesome. I've just been using my board to get from point a to point b lately, usually to go down to the corner store or to a mates house but after today I really want to get back into my skateboarding. I was a bit rusty at the start although by then end I was really impressing myself. I managed to grind along this ledge they have at the park which I was rather happy about. Me and my mate (who is a lot better than me) are planning to go down this weekend and get some footage of each other so I may upload it to youtube afterwards so you can all see. I'm not very good though so don't expect much.
asimov 1 Posted May 13, 2008 Been skating a fair bit lately, allot of my mates have started again too. It's always fun to go for a skate at the local with a big crew. My one friend who is probably the best in our group went to air out of the quarter pipe over some tires stacked up. He made it a couple of times then tried to nosebone it or something. He flew off his skatey and landed straight on his coccyx, funnier still his skatey cleared the fence and smashed into his car, knocking the number plate off . All the tires went rolling down the QP into the bowl afterward.
*MURDOC* 4,798 Posted May 13, 2008 (edited) Sounds like a good (if painful) time! Found some new hills to bomb, and they are quite righteous! I may break 50 on these fellas! Hopefully I can find a few spotters for the intersections on the big hill, because I dont want to hit it without knowing if theres cross traffic. I want to round up a few camera guys too, because if I fall, it will be epic and I want it on film either way. I also have to wait for it to dry up, its been raining a lot lately. Kippers 468 Posted May 13, 2008 Skated for the first time since November last week and i've still got all the moves Nearly managed a kickflip, got it all the way round and i was still in the air, landed, but back foot on the tail, so it flicked up and smacked me on the cheek. Bastard Yeah, when I first started skating years ago I seemed to take the most damage in the first month or so. It is all about learning how to bail again. Meh, I'm going for a skate right now, too bad our local is just this massive bowl that gets full of rocks, glass and trash. The people who designed put hardly anything good in for skaters, I really have to get a photo of it to prove how unbelievably sh*tty it is. edit - I was thinking about a hardflip today, it is more or less a front side shuvit with a kickflip right. So what if you did a bs shuvit with a heelflip?
Davo the Assassin 612 Posted May 28, 2008 I got on my mate's board the other day. Hell, everything felt sketchy. I need to re-learn basically, my ankle makes me scared to do anything lol!.
asimov 1 Posted May 29, 2008 I got on my mate's board the other day. Hell, everything felt sketchy. I need to re-learn basically, my ankle makes me scared to do anything lol!. What did you have a big stack or something? Went for a skate tonight, we had the whole skatey to ourselves which is good fun. Too bad all my mates were too stoned to skate properly.
Davo the Assassin 612 Posted May 29, 2008 I'd had a few bad stacks before hand. Then I went and really badly twisted my ankle. Its not been right since, and the board just feels un-comfortable.
Brokencyde 0 Posted November 1, 2008 I thought I'd bump this up instead of making a new topic, so yeah. I skate alot, for about three years. I've recently dabbled into freestyle and got kickflip into casper then flip out, managed to primo a full box with a kink and flip out, and some other random stuff. I've never really skated much vert, maybe a mini here and there but I prefer street. My best trick I've done so far has to be a tre down a 16 set. I snapped 2 decks doing it. Current setup: 7.75 Bueno Shiloh Greathouse. Independent Reynolds 129. Lucky bearings. Blank wheels. Lucky hardware.
Davo the Assassin 612 Posted November 1, 2008 Nice ride there. Wish I could be assed to get back into it, because it felt great. But I just got too impatient and was afraid of f*cking something up seriously. However, mind, i f*cking love watching people who can ACTUALLY skate decently and consistently, its awsome. But, this time of year, I don't have the time to even if I wanted, nor the weather, haha!

Ottae 1,279 Posted November 3, 2008 Dock Bail - 12ft I wish I could walk. sh*t man, that looked painful, you actually bounced off the ground. So I skated for about 2 years up until 2005, and now I've decided to get back into it. I've found a load of old videos (all pretty sh*te tbh) and it really wanted me to start again. My mate from college is also on about doing it, which is awesome. I got shut of my old board when I finished and all I've got is a sh*tty JJB deck, so I'm ordering a complete on Friday, then over time building it up a bit more. Here's the one I've got my eye on Fracture (I had one before) 7.5, I prefer thinner boards. Fracture everything basically, but as I said, I'll replace stuff over time, probably the bearings first. I know it's winter, but I can't wait! I really wanna get back into it now!
Brokencyde 0 Posted November 4, 2008 Fracture griptape is pretty bad, not as adhesive as other brands (such as Mob or Jessup's). They make good trucks though, I actually have the one's in the picture in my room somewhere.
Brokencyde 0 Posted November 4, 2008 Meh, double post. Sue me. Ottae, if that's the Fracture Dollar Bill setup, go £20 higher and get a Blueprint. They have alot of pop that doesn't wear down that much plus the trucks withstand alot of shock. I don't know if you're a newish skater or experience, those ideas are from personal use of them. And,
Ottae 1,279 Posted November 4, 2008 As I said, I've skated for 2 years. I had a blueprint and really liked it, lasted me a while and I got some decent pop out of it. So yeah, I'm tempted to spend the extra £20. @Video - That would have been awesome, I love how the board hits the floor the same time as you hit the ledge, lmao. Brokencyde 0 Posted November 5, 2008 I ripped like...3/4th's of the skin off my hand doing a bert slide today; Went too far over the concrete and continued sliding on gravel and glass. Did a 360 boneless though, which is good. By the way, you see that bridge thing in the background of the 5-o bail? I know a guy who tried to ollie of there, came down, hit the ledge I grinded on, then he & his board went straight into the water.
Whetstone 0 Posted November 7, 2008 Hello.. I know there is a longboarding topic but its dead. So i'm looking to get into longboarding and just wanted to know if 'Mindless' longboards are any good?

*MURDOC* 4,798 Posted November 7, 2008 (edited) Hello.. I know there is a longboarding topic but its dead.So i'm looking to get into longboarding and just wanted to know if 'Mindless' longboards are any good? From some searches, their decks are Canadian Maple, which splits really easily. But for longboards, sometimes they are built and used differently, some longboards cant really hold up to more hardcore sh*t, while some are built like tanks, for example, some longboards are about the same thickness as a regular board, but with twice the amount of plies, and sometimes vertical lamination or stringers (like on bamboo boards). I've honestly never heard of Mindless, and I only know of a few Euro brands, but if you see any boards by Lush Longboards, check them out, they are sweet. One of my favourite longboard makers is Ron, he runs longboardsbyfatboy.com, and hes an awesome dude! His boards are as beautiful as they are badass, and he makes custom shapes! Whetstone 0 Posted November 8, 2008 (edited) Thanks for your responses ^, So I have 3 choices in mind.. - Mindless Energy - Mindless Spirit 2 - Lush Kuni So what would you guys go for? (I'm a beginner by the way! ) Edited November 8, 2008 by Whetstone
*MURDOC* 4,798 Posted November 8, 2008 The shape of the Kuni, being a mellow pintail might be better for a beginner, since it has more deck and ultimately more stability, plus I know Lush boards are built very very well. Not saying the Mindless board arent good, from what ive just seen, they look decent. Its always good to look at the components too, when I searched, the Mindless boards seemed to have some lower quality comnponents (cheap bearings, no-name trucks) but that all depends on the place thats selling it. As a suggestion for wheels, between 62mm and 70mm is the basic sweet-spot for longboards, especially for a beginner, and wheel hardness depends on your environment/taste. If you want a grippier, smoother wheel, or are riding on rougher surfaces, you want a softer wheel, which will be a lower number durometer, mid-70s durometer wheels are a good all-round longboard wheel. If you ride on smooth pavement a lot, or want to carve a cement park, you might go with a harder wheel, anything from mid-80s duro, upwards to the 100s, fast/slidy. Davo the Assassin 612 Posted November 16, 2008 Haha, was helping my mate with a skate shoot today on some stairs, some pretty awesome pictures, I'll see if I can get them up. Still miss boarding, haha. I like the fact this topic is still going .
.AshRemains 2 Posted November 21, 2008 Well, I thought I'd post here. I've been skating for about half a year. I can ollie, almost shuvit/kickflip, Casper flip, railstand, toe flips, some small stairs, ect. I got my skateboard off my neighbour, so I don't know much about it. SOme pics though, nevertheless. I'm currently in the process of filming for a video, should be fun. Little banner for the topic:
Brokencyde 0 Posted December 3, 2008 Dead topic is dead? Anyway I used live maps to get some pics of where I skate. I know ash IRL so we skate here alot. These places show their true potential when you see them IRL.
Davo the Assassin 612 Posted December 4, 2008 That seems a pretty sick places or two you've got there. Theres no where round me, apart from the skate park thats decent for skating, a few sets of steps mind. Theres a pretty smooth underpass that you can get some pretty decent speed from with minimal effort (dodging pedestrians may be a challenge, they liked to moan when we skated there). Its fun as, even when you bail going down and have a graze all the way up your side (y). Haha. Good times .
Brokencyde 0 Posted December 5, 2008 Might aswell post this spot too. Local Primary School, epic. Sorry for dodgy-ish picture, school website tour thing sucks.
