i'm not sure if ccs is still running 10 dollars wheels but i got a set of 54's from there. also got some chinese reds for 14.99 to complete wheels and bearings.

i was trying heelflips off this foot and half tall ledge today and i finally got the spin perfect and caught it in the air and everything. then i landed and snapped the tail. i'm scared to try it on my brand new board because i don't want to snap it first day. frustrating to say the least.

Dude, you're in Australia, these guys are in America.

This means their prices and shops are different.

All I can say is, IF you do live in Adelaide go to your local Daily Grind. They always have good set ups for cheap or if you want to build your own deck they can give good deals. I also get 15% off there due to a loyalty card which you get after you spend so much at the store.

i've snapped two boards so far trying this simple heelflip off a ledge.

i've been riding 7.5's though and i wonder if stepping up to a 7.6 will make any difference. besides making it alittle harder to flip i wonder if it would be sturdier.

I had ago of my mates skateboard the other day and i actually done my first ollie ever, i have never been able to do them before and suddenly it's comes to me, it might of only been an inch of the floor but it atleast it counts as an ollie. biggrin.gif

I am yet to master the moving ollie as i keep going on my arse so for the time being i'm starting my Ollie's from a stationary position.

everything comes down to keep your shoulders straight over the board.

Just gotta keep practicing; the ollie is the hardest thing for beginners.

I've never come into this topic because I stopped skating at 17. Started at about 8 or 9 and got sponsored with my friends at 15 through 17, and now I've started again.

I figured I'd go to the new local free skatepark and check it out one afternoon, and I realised I couldn't do jack sh*t. After four days I could land 180 kickflips into a switch stance (I dunno if I said that right, my lingo on skating is piss poor nowadays) and now I'm pretty much half way to the level I once was at.

It's a lot harder now though, because I'm pretty big and not very agile on a skateboard anymore, so my ollies are like half a foot shorter, and I just look sluggish in everything blush.gif.

Ahh... just saw this topic because of mushroom's post in the General Chat.

I'm not a skater now, but I was into big freshman year highschool. I skated for about a year straight then gave up. In that time I only got down ollies, 180's (backside) and right at the end I could do kick flips. I was bad ass at doing some Mullen style tricks, I think they're called primos, you know where you stand on the side of the board. I could do 360 double kickies out of that, it was bad ass. Either way two (trucks forward or backwards).

Other than that, the biggest set I jumped was a 3 step, did it a handful of times...

A few weeks back this kid at work had his skateboard there, so I tried it a bit. I've put on some weight since then, and his trucks were pretty loose so it was even hard to just skate around, but I got the hang of it quick. I even did two 180's, pretty impressive if I do say so myself! lol.gif

@ufc, like I was just saying, it's been a long time since I skated so I couldn't help much.

And really, it's hard to explain even in person how to do tricks. My best advice is just to watch people do it and try and do the same. Monkey see monkey do.

The mechanics of it though are like so:

-You lean down to preload your legs for the jump.

-Simultaneously jump up with your back leg while bring up your forward leg and dragging your front foot against the length of the board. The dragging is to pull your board up with your body. Jumping with your back leg, you should give the tail a quick popping action, and you push your whole body in the air as you do it.

-Once you and your board start traveling in the air pull up your back leg and level it with your front. If you pulled the board up correctly with the dragging action of your forward foot, the board should stay with your rear (jumping) foot.

-Stay level, and if you have to I would suggest to try and let your rear wheels land first but be ready to shift your weight as need to stay standing.

That's about as technical as I could get with it. But really, it's all about feeling the board and how it works with your body. Just like a race car driver and their car, you need to let the board become an extension of yourself. And just remember, it will take time and practice makes perfect!

I just found this topic... thought I should post.

I'm a bit new at it (been skating using other peoples boards and stuff for a while, but I just got my own board about a week or so ago and I love it)...

Heres my board:

user posted image

Indy trucks, Stereo wheels etc, the deck is by Smash Hit which I've never heard of but I bought this board pre-built because I didn't have a preference for anything... it fits me fine and I'm probably gonna build my own next month using the sizes and whatnot from this board.

I can ride it pretty well and stuff, but the only tricks I know are:

Bail, and

Bail Hard

I can ollie sort of but the back wheels don't come off the ground very high. I think I know what I'm doing wrong though.

Wow, my topic still lives colgate.gif. That dude in general chat got me alil publicity, go me!

So yeh. I don't skate at all at the moment, for a multitude of reasons. One, poor weather, two girlfriend commitments (Im pussywhipped blush.gif ) and three I play rugby now, tires me out alot.

But I hopefully will get back to it as weather gets better, certainly next summer. Shame though, wish I hadn't spent so much on a new board I didn't end up using much... Ah well, lol.

I'd like to start skating a bit again... I'd have to lose a lot of damn weight first tounge.gif I'd be lucky if a board lasted more than a day right now, lol. Well, that's not too funny tounge2.gif

@RoxRox, nice tricks there, lol. I never got the bail down, but I sure had the bail hard one down lol.gif

Seriously, my friend would just roll right out of falls, I fall, and I smack hard as sh*t. No roll, no bounce, just a big f*cking *whomp* or *smack*. Then me "@#$%!!!!!" Hahahah...

My last board set up was Titan trucks, the Element Bam Margera bat board, don't remember the wheels but I had Red Bones bearings. Not sure if those guys are still around but I HIGHLY recommend them. Those bearings were as smooth as the day I got them the whole time I had them, and lasted through 3 sets of wheels, 5 boards and 2 or 3 trucks. Amazing, imo. There are black bones which are like double the price or so. My friend had them and I truly couldn't notice any difference. For the $$, Red Bones are the f*cking best.

My set up:

Shorty's Brandon Turner deck. No thanks. Thinking about an Alien Workshop deck for next time smile.gif

Thunder trucks

Habitat wheels w/ Lucky 7's.

Let's see, as for my arsenal of tricks, it's not impressive, but hey, I like to have fun.

Kickflip

Varial flip

Heel flip

Rock to fakie

Fakie pivot to rock to fakie (lols)

Fakie crook stall

Tail stall

Feeble on a mini ramp

5-0 on mini

50 50 on mini

The ever so easy boardslide (backside)

Backside 180 on the mini

uhhhh

You know what...let's just say that I like to skate mini ramps. smile.gif

Lately I haven't been teaching myself anything new. I've been taking photographs and videos of my friends.
