How can I tell what version i have for PS2?

Recommended Posts

I recently purchased my first copy of SA (and enjoyng it) and I need / want to know how can I tell what version I have for i know that R'star re-issued it after the "hot coffee" controversy.

My copy is from the "greatest hits" colllection with the red bar across the top of the front cover.

In the early mission "Cleaning the Hood", in the cutscene in the beginning you can see one of the gangbangers getting head in the back room, I read that scene was to be edited out when they removed the "Hot Coffee" stuff.

Well it is in the copy i have, so this is why I ask "How can I tell what version I have with absolute certainty?

Also, I was hit with the infamous "gym workout error / glitch" and went through ALL of the possible fixes and nothing worked, so i restarted game and adhereing to the guide of having CJ eat at least two meals every 12-18 hours and eating two meals before saving has been good so far, no glitch.

Of all the GTA games I have for the PS2 (GTAIII, VC, SA, LCS, VCS) I am having the most fun of them all in this one : )

For what I know, the Greatest Hits collection is a second edition SA with the inclusion of the Introduction video. It comes with two discs right? One for the game and the other for some videos including the Introduction. The original version 1.0 comes in a single disc only. Apart from this, some game features were altered and some notorios bugs/glitch in v1.0 were fixed in the re-issue of SA.

For the gym glitch, there may be at least one overlooked fixed that works consistently in v1.0, and that is to simply do a storyline mission. Based on some tests on this, once you accomplish the mission, or even if you fail it more than halfway through, the gym glitch can be fixed. Must have something to do with the script.

San Andreas second edition came out in multiple ways on the PS2. The Greatest Hits version and the Special Edition version are the common ones. The one you are talking about is the Special Edition.

@jrbabbitt: The way to tell is to look under the ESRB M rating thing if you have an American version. If it is second edition (most likely if it is Greatest Hits), it will say second edition right under that.

If the game was bought during the M/AO transition, the box could have a sticker on it. If either the Greatest Hits label or the AO label are stickers over the original packaging, you probably have the first version. If there are no stickers and it isn't Greatest Hits or Special Edition, it is also likely first version. Otherwise it is most likely second version.

Note: I have the Special Edition for PS2 (it says Second Edition on the disc), and the hooker is going down on the guy in my copy as well as in my unmodded first edtion PC version.

No, my copy of the greatest hits was a one disc item and packaging reflects this. As for the gym glitch fix , can you be more detailed in your explanation, you say do a mission over, which mission? and am I supposed to fail it purposely and then re-do it?

They stopped selling the First release of San Andreas as soon as the hot coffe bullcrap started. The only way if you have a First release version of San Andreas is if you bought San Andreas before the Hot Coffe stuff started. So, no need for a topic.

I have the American Version, Playstation 2 Greatest Hits in the red banner across top, ESRB - M rating on bottom right corner on front and larger in bottom left hand corner on rear but nothing saying second issue. Please help

Really, who cares what version you got. If you're trying to do the hot coffe mod don't waste your time. Go look at real porn.. icon14.gif

Man you didn't get the jist of my original message, I did not want to find out about the hot coffee, I got bit with the gym glitch and i wanted to know if i had the 2nd version for the PS2 and if the gym error is in that version too.

And I already know you cannot access the Hot coffee on a PS2 without jumping through hooops with cheat devices, cheat devices that i do not have nor want, nor do i care about the hot coffee for i do not do the girlfriend thing in SA, its not mission critical (maybe Millie is , but i didn't get that far)

You know what the SLUS number is?

If it is SLUS-20946GH, then it is second edition. If it is SLUS-20946, then it is first edition.

Thank you , I got the 20946GH, it's on the spine of the case at bottom. thank you for answering my question.

Well i can say to all who wonder...

A) the vigilante glitch still works.

B) the "gym / workout" glitch is still in the programming.

C) still enjoying the game.

Yes San Andreas owns. I forgot about the SLH codes I was totally day-dreaming. Sometimes you wonder like now. Since R* fixed the Hot coffe mod, why didn't they fix the Ganton Gym glitch? Do they even know about what us kids found? Kinda funny.

Make sure to check the disc too. I know that stores like GameStop sometimes puts the wrong disc in the box. If you got it still sealed, this shouldn't be a problem though.
