Computer running slow..

Recommended Posts

Hey guys.

I was on a trip on the weekend up the coast and before I left, my computer was running perfectly normal. But I came back on Monday and realised it was running really really really slow!

I've done a virus check, about 20 defragments, disk cleanups and I even used CCleaner and cleaned 550mb from my disk..

.. But it is still slow.

Anyone else got ideas? I need this computer for work and it gets hard when it takes a while to open all the programs.

Cheers guys.

-Niko.

What came up on your Virus detection? Anything?

Do you also run a SpyWare/Adware protection program?

Have you tried running these types of programs in Safe Mode?

Checklist

[]Virus-Scan

[]Spyware Scan

[]Registry Clean

[]Defrag

[]Physical Cleanout of the hardware (dust etc)

[]Update Drivers

[]Update Windows

[]Disk Cleanup

[]Removal of unnessesary Services and startup programs

If that fails then

[]System Restore to a point before the weekend

Try those then report back smile.gif

I don't believe it! Here I was on my computer playing around in Google Sketchup, and yes the computer was slow. And all of a sudden it is running really fast! I don't know how the heck this happened but I am so grateful to you guys.

Thankyou so much guys. colgate.gif

This has happened to me once or twice.

It probably wont help you, but I opened up the bios, and put everything to run at best performance.

Then everything worked a treat again.

I wouldnt suggest to people who dont know what it is to do that.

It can SERIOUSLY destory your computer if you dont know what you are doing nervous.gif
