Was at the shops getting a present and saw this magazine in the newsagency, checked it out quick nothing new image wise, same crap as before and what seemed to be the same demo so didn't bother buying it.

One thing that caught my eye was a little section dedicated to talking about euphoria and how it would work with GTA IV and that it is 100% confirmed from Rockstar that they will be using it. Yeah I know we all pretty much guessed it but it was news to me that the word of it came from R*.

I might get scans later on, but from what I saw no point buying the magazine. I would've read more into it but I'm currently running late for work and that would have made it worse.

This would be the first time a Go-shu- mag has exclusive info. That's awesome if it's true.

Even other magazines here with GTAIV info aren't worth buying because they just copy info off the internet and speculate with no mercy.

This from the magazine mentioned above. I typed it up as I don't have access to a scanner atm.

I only typed up the bit about Euphoria though as the rest of the preview has been heard before.

This all come from the XBOX 360 issue with the GTA4 poster in the centre. The June issue. I assume it is the same issue mentioned in the OP.

GTAIV incorporates developer NaturalMotion's revolutionary Euphoria animation engine, the same system being used by LucasArts in its upcoming Star Wars and Indiana Jones games. The Euphoria engine basically simulates the human body and nervous system , essentially doing away with scripted animations by enabling game characters that independently react to their surroundings in real time. For example, in the demo we were given, Niko automatically dropped his shoulders in order to squeeze past pedestrians walking on the pavement, and his footsteps and sense of balance adjusted to uneven patches of the street, as well as stairs and the rungs on the telegraph pole he climbed. By incorporating Euphoria, Rockstar is really adding a new layer of unpredictability to a style of game that was already highly random. Getting nudged by a slow moving car will likely result in an "I'm walkin' here" kind of reaction, whereas getting hit at top speed will see you dragged under the wheels, rolled up and over the bonnet or flung sideways - it all depends on what direction you were facing, the speed of the car, how fast you were walking, and so on.

Euphoria should also have a major impact on combat. Shooting an enemy in the leg might cause them to fall and shooting them in the shoulder might disarm them, and the direction you attack an enemy from might also determine the result of your actions - creep up behind them and you should get an easy headshot, but take them on face to face and they could well flinch or duck out of the way. Melee combat should also benefit from the use of Euphoria, as you should be able to throw people into walls, furniture or even off rooftops so that they flail desperately to grab for the edge of a fire escape as they plummet to their doom.

Seems like speculation to me but I thought I'd post it here so you guys can make up your own mind.

I'll go through the rest of the preview with a fine tooth comb and see if I missed anything worthy of you attention.

EDIT: upon further inspection the rest of the preview appears to be word for word what appeared in the US/UK magazines.

The only other thing would be one of the picture captions reads:

"If you want to access your money in GTAIV, you have to go to one of Liberty City's ATMs! Or you can just mug somebody (presumably)"

I'm just glad my girlfriend works at a news agency so I didn't have to fork out the AU$16.25 for this "exclusive"... rolleyes.gif

Thanks, truthspitta (kind of an ironic name in this instance tounge.gif). Just as I expected, we can't really say if it was straight from Rockstar Games to them, however that does not rule Euphoria out as of yet. It probably is there anyway, and if so, there's a good chance R* won't mention it anywhere leading up to release, unless of course they're asked about it.

So far when they talked about technologies in GTA IV they emphasized a lot on their "proprietary" software from R* San Diego. Euphoria or not, we will see what Euphoria offer to games DURING GAMEPLAY: Dynamic Animations. Dan Houser made clear that will be in there, and will look less "canned".

So can we safely say then that there's nothing new / interesting at all further?

All this euphoria business is doing my head in, im caught in two minds as to whether to cheer with enjoyment or cry in despair. I will be bitterly dissapointed if euphoria is not incorporated into IV, cause the possibilities are endless and it would such a better game. I feel that R* idea to make the game animations seem 'less canned' worries me, as it translates as 'not as many canned animations' but there's possibly still some there.

But seriously, nice job on the new info. Good to see euphoria be confirmed finally.

Damn... do you fly all over to world to get magazines, lol ?

I think what he meant buy 'less canned' was, like, in real life, if you throw a ball twice the same way, the same speed and velocity, it's gonna look identical, because nothing changed. But in real life it's near impossible to do something the exact same way twice. But video games are different, you can do something the same way twice, all you're doing is mashing a button.

So I think he meant that it's impossible to have everything 'uncanned' in a game.

But I'm really just talking out of my gra$$ right now. biggrin.gif

Just flicking through the mag and I noticed on the 'In the next issue' section, they have a picture of Niko and the words "Video Blowout - GTAIV, Bioshock and more!" referring to the disc that comes with the next issue of the mag. (obviously... sigh.gif )

Can anyone with "connections" clarify whether this "video blowout" is going to be anything new or are they just going to burn the trailer to disc?

I'm pretty sure everyone here has already burned the trailer into their retinas, so I'm hoping for something new.

Maybe R* will record the demo and distribute it to mag companies so the fans can dissect it... wow.gif

There is always hope.

AndyGanteks

it can be one of these things:

15 minutes of demo everybody saw

trailer 1

trailer 2

Another magazine said how walking on different materials will cause realistic effects, like walking on soft cement caused the players feet to sink in it making a slushing noise, this is the type of stuff euphoria allows so I would say it's certain that GTA will use it.
